Bought a cheap usb soundcard last week because the mic in port on my motherboard wasn't recognising the input anymore. It sounds much better than the standard onboard sound apart from one problem; the direction of the sound in my headphones has been reversed. I notice it most in Bad Company 2 when gunfire from the left sounds as if it is coming from the right.
I guess it's because the thing was so cheap, but wondering if there was any way to reverse it back so it is normal?
If it were my cheap soundcard, I'd crack it open and switch the right and left connections on the headphone jack.
If you look at the plug on the end of your headphones, you'll see it's seperated into 3 segments. The end of it is the ground, the middle is "Right", and the bottom is "Left" (If I remember correctly).
Now when you are looking at your soundcard, you should see 3 corresponding connections on the port. If you are lucky they will be connected by wires you can cut and switch easily. If you're not lucky they will just be metal prongs protruding from a curcuit board, which will take a little creativity to route properly.
If they headphones/speakers aren't usb it's easy enough to cross wire it, even without soldering. If you don't want to solder, just get an 1/8" jack (male) to RCA (male) adapter and an 1/8" jack (female) to RCA (female) adapter. Cross the RCA jacks and that's it.

Of course I wouldn't have thought of the simple solution. Nice. Even if I had though, I still wouldn't be able to resist the excuse to dismantle something. :P

Your soundcard might have an option to "reverse channels" or something along those lines. just go into the options and look for it.

This is a pretty great solution. Don't have a soldering iron at the moment so think it will be the best bet.

I can't say I've seen an option like that for headphones in the control panels I've used.
HAHA I came here to say that.
Alternatively, maintain headphone orientation, but turn computer desk around 180-degrees

Hopefully that made sense.
Good luck.
