How many armor abilities will players be able to utilize during the beta? Can you tell us something about each of them?
HAMRICK: An ability that we haven’t talked about yet is Armor Lock. It’s kind of a throwback to the old school bubble shield but you always have it on your person and it’s intended to keep you safe. It’s kind of like a block. If your opponent closes on you with a shotgun or is about to land a melee blow or run you over with a vehicle, you can engage Armor Lock and become temporarily invulnerable. You can’t move, aim, or shoot. You’re stuck there, but you can’t be killed. You can do that up to three times on one charge or you can do one sustained lock for a few seconds.
There is also a knockback and EMP blast component. The longer you hold your Armor Lock, the more pronounced the effect will be. There are three different tiers – if it’s just a short lock, I’ll get a small knockback and a tiny bit of EMP up to the max level, which is a much larger knockback and EMP blast. It’s really intended to say, “hey, you better not mess with me, I’m extremely dangerous even though I’m trapped in here!” It’s particularly effective against vehicles as well. Also, if you’re stuck with a plasma grenade or have needles in you, they’ll be knocked off when you engage Armor Lock.
It's a get out of "oh shit" free card.

So load outs: sounds like we only get a few predefined loadouts to select from for each matchmaking game. I was really hoping it would be closer to CoDs class system, but it sounds like it will only work that way for customs. And if they continue to not give a custom game browser, I doubt I'll get to make my own very often
Armor lock sounds a little overpowered, I think I'm going to use the hell out of it.
Armor lock sounds strong, but if someone ambushes you and you use it, you are still going to be at a disadvantage when you come out of it. It will be fun to cheat death on occasion (getting run over, stuck, use it to block a second sniper shot), but it doesn't seem like a perk that is going to turn the tide in a 1v1 fight. Jetpacks and sprint seem like they could turn the advantage back into your favor. The wort roll doesn't seem that useful. You might make them miss one shot, but you (probably) won't be able to shoot while rolling, so it's just a delay tactic like armor lock.
I'm not sure what exactly will be going on in Spartan vs Elite gametypes, but I imagine that I'll use the roll to get into cover or to cover the advance/retreat of an objective
Roll sounds like a good way to get to cover. I'll bet you move pretty quick for the leaping/lunging part before you hit the ground and roll. I bet it'll be ideal for reaching a corner when your shields are about to drop. Also you'll be rolling - so your head will be hard as hell to pop with that DMR.

So I lied, it'll be another hour or so before I log on for some Halo 2.
That is kind of my point. Using sprint will allow you to get around that corner too. A sudden burst of speed will also help make that DMR miss. Roll is sprint without the ability to move around the map faster. Then again the wort shuffle might have a very short cooldown. There is also the possibility that an elite only move isn't intended to be balanced with the other armor perks.
Well if what Fyre says about fast moving Elites is true, roll vs sprint won't matter. I'm guessing being an elite will be all about being a motherfucker that people will have to work as a group to take down

i'm hoping it works out to be a little quicker than the sprint

Is there some magical way to know when you guys are assembling for halo besides f5ing the forums all day or being on xbl? I'm kind of hankering for some Halo 2 but I never catch the forums as these things start and miss out.

I have over 100k kills in h2 with my old gts, yet barely any H3 by comparison. I feel like I traitor.

You should be able to read the tide of battle and go where you are needed most.
I call that my "headless chicken" strategy.

Not only is it a statistics fail.. his sample size is one percent of the daily game count of Halo 3.
