Been looking into doing a montage or kind of a greatest hits/kills videos to put on youtube, I suppose. Well, I have footage from a few games already recorded off 360 and PC. Got that part covered.

Now I'm looking at doing the editing. I downloaded the 30 day trial of PowerDirector 8. Seems like a good program, but they charge $70 for it!?

Can't I accomplish the same thing with a free program? Or am I just paying for the convenience/ease of use? It's not like I can't afford it or anything it's just that I'm thinking, Fuck that's a lot for a program solely for video editing. Any other programs that would be better then powerdirector?

Any recommendations or tips are appreciated!

Good video editing software is usually pretty expensive. Like, $70 is pocket change, Adobe Premiere Pro is $800. You can probably get by with Windows Movie Maker, which should have come with Windows assuming that is your OS.

If you really want to find something different, here is a list of open source stuff though the bulk of it seems to be for Linux.

There's plenty of free software for dealing with compression or trimming or slapping music on a video, like VirtualDub.

But when it comes to actual editing you'll need to fork over some dough.

Sony Vegas is very popular with people making simple movie edits. Has a free trial, the most basic version is ~40 dollars or so. I have no idea what it can do though. Give the trial a shot.

The one I know of is Blender, but I wouldn't advise it, the last time I used it to edit video it was a real chore. If you don't have anything else though, I guess it would work. In the rare case that you have everything in raw avi or whatever backwards thing Windows Movie Maker accepts you could try that as well, but it is crazy limited.
