I really dug the Spiderboy third prize winner though. That one really works for me.
That one was kind of busy, but I liked how it combined elements of various outfits while still having its own personality.
It also looks like something a teenager could actually throw together to go fight crime in, unlike most of Spidey's costumes that he supposedly made at home.

I think it would work well as a premier costume that would be eliminated a year later by a more conventionally manufactured redesign to signify Parker becoming more accommodated to his role. I also have no idea where he got those shoes. I like how much bigger the emblem on the back is compared to the front, given how much we see the wall crawler from behind.
I don't really like the winner. It seems like what the kind of character who appears standing on some kind of surface (where you can't see the ground behind him, like a ledge above the hero) and silently beats the fucking shit out of either the hero or, in an overly brutal fashion, whoever the hero is fighting. He even has a hand gimmick. The helmet, creepy eyes, and shadowy, muted main color (the dark red) are a villain trifecta. Hell, Deathstroke had all of those plus the fucking scarf.
The second place one is really, really good, and fixes all the problems with the current ultimate costume. Redesign the foot emblems and loose the compound eyes, and we have a winner.
The first honorable is good, but the hood is a mistake and it would need a lot of work to look good without the hood.
Second honorable is also good, but I don't like the legs, head, or back. The logistical things are fantastic.
Third is wonderfully dynamic, and I feel like it could be easily simplified for more far out shots. The only problem is that it doesn't have the most character, being very sleek. I also love that the webbing gives him abs. Who wouldn't do that?
The hands and feet of #5 are almost perfect. The only change I'd make to them would be to cover the backs of the finger and toes up to the last knuckle (the covers would be secured by threads going around the knuckles. If you're worried about prints, use a thin mesh. I also like the web shooters.
The back of the sixth one is my favorite. If you saw that in NY, you'd think "oh, it's a spider-man." The mask needs work, and I don't really have any opinion on the front. Overall, a favorite.
I don't like #8 from the front and the pack is totally impractical, but the back is wonderful. I love the luchadore ties, and like the back emblem (in fact, the whole emblem is good). I really don't mind the pads on principal, and they make sense given that Peter's going to clip things and go rolling across the ground in the fetal position, but the whole thing is too techy-hero for me.
Spiderbulge!
Scaramantula!
I like the next one's pads better, but it looks dumb from the back.
I like the Malara one. While some might find it busy, I can't see anything it would look better without. It's cool.
The pouch in the Campbell one is good, but the rest looks like an evil robot.
The Major one is good, but it looks like it looks like it's for a more head on hero like Wolverine.
Mitchell has a lot of good tech elements but puts them on a techy spandex pattern and color palette. Spiderman is smart and uses tech, but isn't Ironman.
The middle image for Aros makes it look like he pins his cape up when he's not going anywhere so he doesn't have to hold himself up during his Spidernaps.
Third place was the best costume, I thought. The only reason it didn't win was Ron from iFanboy gave it a 2. If he had given it even a 5 or a 6, Rosy Higgins would have taken 1st place with her design.
The shoes are Converse. She even left the dot intact on the upper of the boot. They're pretty easily available in stores.
I like the Kamen Rider style outfit it looks nice. If Marvel ever attempts to do a Japanese version of Spidey again that is the costume they should use.
The Rosy Higgins design also looks great. I agree it would make a good Spider boy/girl outfit.
Play Smash Bros 3DS with me!!! Friend Code: 2981-7429-8364
I knew you would hate on that. How about if it kept the helmet as goggles and had long, dark hair with stars in it like the non-armoured parts of her body? I think she would rock that look.
I actually like the idea of Kryptonians being inhuman looking and Supes adapting to look like the dominate species
mostly because I hate the whole ALIENS LOOK EXACTLY LIKE HUMANS BUT DIFFERENT COLORS SOMETIMES thing
Really?
I love that
It's a classic from the days of pulp fiction, it gives things a sword and spaceships feel rather than straight up sci-fi, which really works for superheroes, feels more fun and swashbuckling. After all, John Carter of Mars is a forerunner of the superhero genre and that has Martians that are basically humans with redder skin. Nothing wrong with paying homage to that, especially as Superman takes a lot of inspiration from John Carter.
it makes sense on a tv show where there is a very small budget to work with, but in written fiction and comics in particular where the only limit is the artist's imagination there ain't no excuse. I know comics and fiction in general don't really have to abide by the rules of science at all but the chances of an alien race looking exactly like the human race are pretty much impossible and we have entire galaxies filled with multicolored humans.
I'd love to see Wonder Womans re-design in some kinda Elseworld story.
Wonder Woman 1,000,000 was actually made of marble.
I really like that Starfire redesign. The Dr. Strange one is alright, but if he's not going to be in his ridiculous superhero outfit, I'd just as soon prefer he wear the kind of stuff he did in Rios and Waid's Strange mini.
I knew you would hate on that. How about if it kept the helmet as goggles and had long, dark hair with stars in it like the non-armoured parts of her body? I think she would rock that look.
I don't particularly like the domino mask she wears now because what's the point? At least so long as every single artist draws it differently anyway, and most go for the large diamond frames around her eyes. I know it's supposed to be an homage to Captain Marvel, but without consistency it just makes her look silly. I can totally go for the starfield and silver armor though. Not quite in that configuration, but the general motif would be fine. Besides the helmet, I dislike that she is slightly pear-shaped. She should be perfectly proportioned because when she gained her powers ("space magic," btw? Fuck you) it recreated her as an idealized version of herself. Then her powers got mucked with.
I really, really like Immonen's Mighty version of her costume, but I could totally do without anything covering her face. She is publicly-known. She has a nice face. She has no, to my knowledge, need for the "mask" to keeps detritus out of her eyes or anything. Go for a Donna Troy style look where she has a full body suit that is a starfield beneath the lightning bolt. Keep the waist wrap.
The Claremont-era costume is amazingly prudish compared to the original one she (and later Karla) wore. Marko Djurdjevic made it look great when he did those Women of Marvel covers, but at the same time she is probably the second most powerful superheroine after Sue Richards and she wore this. Just a reminder, kids, she was created specifically to be a feminist hero/icon. I discussed her costume with a couple of artists and I feel like it is a bit of a fetishistic, escapist fantasy. Brian Clevinger rightly described her when he wrote her in Avengers and the Infinity Gauntlet the "mom" of the group, but when she suits up she's wearing a one-piece swimsuit with varying degrees of thong around the ass and crotch depending on the artist and thigh-length fuck-me boots. You will want me, but I will kick your ass.
Let me be blunt: Her costume is basically made of light like a Green Lantern's. She could do so many crazy visual tricks with her photonic powers, and yet this former spy has one default mode: Battering Ram. Bah. I would kill it on her solo series. I have so many ideas. Good, bad, but different.
If he was from the future, he'd also work better as an inspirational figure because he'd be the living embodiment of human potential.
On the other hand, Luthor's motivation for hating Superman would have to change, and I'm not sure any variation would be as good him distrusting an alien creature interfering with mankind's growth.
Maybe you could have Luthor reject predestination instead, I guess. Like he's initially please by the future that Superman represents, until Luthor finds out that there's no record of him in Superman's historical records. Unable to accept a future where he's irrelevant, he then decides to rebel against the fate that Superman represents by seizing control of mankind's destiny and ensuring that history never forgets the name Lex Luthor.

I still don't think that's nearly as good as the Luthor motivation we have. A truly interesting villain could always, with some slight change in circumstances, have been a hero; you need to almost see how the villain could be in the right. Red Son does a good job with this in terms of the Superman/Luthor dynamic. The Luthor you're describing just sounds like he's throwing a self-absorbed hissy fit.
It's a fine line to walk as it is, between Luthor hating Superman because he thinks Supes holds mankind back, and Luthor hating Superman just because Luthor doesn't get to be the one leading humanity forward.
These are all pretty great, aside from the Flash's costume having way too many details. Speedster characters are perfect for the "stream-lining" trend, but this Flash costume just looks busy and jumbled. Deathstroke's Tron pants are sort of silly too.
The Flash costume worn by Wally West is pretty much a perfect costume. It's probably one of the best costumes of all time, and when The Flash runs fast and there's all the red blur with the golden lightning it's amazing. That costume is not bad, but I think it comes off as worse than the regular one because the regular one is just so fucking awesome.
Also Crimsondude this is very late but I actually do agree with you that Ms Marvel is fantastic and that a solo book for her could be amazing. It really is such a shame that Reed fucked her series up, because that was her big chance to be Marvel's premier female superhero but sadly it wasn't that way.

Project Rooftop's latest contest is redesigning Invincible
I'm sure I could come up with something cool for Invincible's costume once I started playing with it but his current costume is pretty good. Definitely harder than trying to fix a terrible costume.
Man, there have already been so many alternate universe Invincibles, as well as a bunch of tweaks and redesigns by Walker and Ottley, that I think it may be a bit of a pain in the ass to come up with something new.
Plus he doesn't really have a theme that you can play around with, apart from the letter "I".
The character is just Kirkman's take on an archetype rather than something special in his own right, so removing Kirkman from the equation just leaves you with something really generic.

so basically what you're saying is that he should have a costume consisting of KIRKMAN written from groin to neck

aliens are alien
not blue people or red people or whatever
It is tolerable when they have a few different traits, like Twi'leks or the Asari
but otherwise ugh
Yeah but they are aliens
Surely they can look like whatever they want
Look all I am saying is that human-like aliens is not inherently a bad thing and has a rich history of doing well.
I like Dr. Who and Star Trek and whatever
I just personally find it lazy and annoying

Like aliens living on Earth and blending in like Superman does
That's cool as well
I mean, both are good for their own reasons, but neither should just be dismissed because they open up fun storytelling possibilities.
Wonder Woman 1,000,000 was actually made of marble.

I really wish they'd gone with that instead of Krypton. I love that idea and
honest question
I just don't like there being a science-y answer to Superman's powers and everything, and I'm just not really a fan of "alien" stories
I think he'd work better as a person that just inexplicably had those powers and was raised to do good with them. Just leave it unexplained

Fair enough
I disagree, I think Krypton is cool as hell, but fair enough
