People destroying MCOM buildings with a mortar is so anticlimactic. Unlike setting off the bomb normally there's no awareness level if you are far away.
Stupid yeti recons only have to SEE the building to blow it to shit with a mortar. I mean even if your defence is tight, are you supposed to be sweeping every bush on the map with a bloodhound?
Now that people have figured it out some of my favorite parts of maps are much shorter than I'd like them to be.
What I'm saying is, why can't I lie down on the roof of a damaged building and absorb the mortar bombs as if I was a greenpeace hippie strapped to a mighty oak tree?
edit: The best part is when you see an anonymous teammate blowing holes in the MCOM building with a rocket/tank to make it "easier to defend". Sure you are opening it up a bit, but damn it man good luck defending the acropolis for long, because that shit is going down. Unfortunately I can't speak to anyone outside my squad for some reason.
I'm sure this has been brought up already but are there a limited number of mortar strikes you can do for the whole round? Because several times it just stopped working for me well past the cool down and even after I had died and respawned.

Sounds like a bug to me, but then I probably haven't used the mortar strike more than 10 times in a round.
As for using them on mcom buildings. Yeah it's kind of anti climactic, but it sure is effective if they defending team really has it locked down. I only ever do it if the tickets are getting low and the team isn't making any progress.
I do however enjoy using the rpg-7 on the mcomcs themselves from a distance withe explosives upgrade. Watching the defenders run around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to figure out how it's getting damaged, or running up to it to check for C4 recons only to get a rocket to the face.
Taking out 3 guys bunched together with the drill is exciting, the squishiest/grindingest sound effects
Yeah, especially when you're on the receiving end of it!

Okay, I've neglected the multiplayer in this game long enough. I need to start. Question though - am I going to be at a huge disadvantage now, starting at the bottom, or are the basic weapons enough to get a few ranks still?

You're going to be at a disadvantage -- the starting weapons are pretty trash (except for recon), and you don't even get your basic class equipment (which I think is the dumbest thing ever).

The starter sniper rifle is one of the better ones, medic's first gun is alright, assault's isn't bad, engineers kinda blows.
But you can grab anyone's gun off of the ground and use it, so keep a watch out for them.

You'll definitely notice that the higher ranked players are, well, using cooler toys, but a rank 1's bullets to the face to just as much damage to a level 40 as the level 40s do back.

Considering I prefer recon, that's good news. Can you spend unlocks any way you want like the first BC?

It's a bug, just keep holding the button down until you get the Audio cue and it'll work as normal.

No you can't. You gain points towards whatever class you spawn as (or the vehicle unlock path if you're in one) and your general level. So as you use recon, you gain points in recon and unlock more sniper rifles, scopes, gadgets, etc. As your general level goes up you unlock weapons and perks you can use on any class.
So is the M1911 generally accepted as being too awesome or something? Because I don't get it. It feels weak and inaccurate at anything besides very short range.

Guess it's good to force people out of roles if they want certain toys. I liked being able to unlock whatever I wanted though.

Does the games multiplayer have local search (EG It looks for games with the best connection closest to your first) or is it designed as dumb as MW2? I rented this but didn't get to try out the MP, but it was really fun and I'm tempted to buy the game - but it would be nice to know if it has local search. Playing on US servers with 500 ping doesn't work.

Where are you from? If you know of any local game communities it might be an idea to find out what servers people are playing on and favourite them. Can be a lot more fun playing with a semi-regular crowd anyhow.
edit: And I never use the "Play Now" function, but during beta it would usually toss me in servers with 400+ pings, when local options were definitely available (I'm in NZ). They may have fixed that for release, or during the last patch though.

I'll have the Xbox 360 version, hence local search that will let me play with other New Zealanders and Aussies. Especially the Aussies as there is nothing better than shanking a Koala shagger in the back with a power drill.

Damn I was beat'd. But yeah, user the other pistols, and you'll see why so much love for the M1911.

The M1911 is the perfect 'holy fuck there is a guy in my face i must kill now' weapon.

Ooh, another Kiwi . I've been playing on PC but there are a few others from GP that I know of playing 360. Check out this thread. Might be able to find a few friend tags to add. I haven't heard any of these dudes complaining about server problems so it might not be an issue on 360.

Great job guys
What is the button for switching teams, I'm sure half the people (including me) don't even know. I've asked in-game, but never seem to get an answer.

I think on the Xbox its the pause button to bring up the squads, options, and exit game
HA HA HA HA HA.
There is no switch team option for XBox.
I guess you could exit game, quick-join a game and set the map to the map you just left.

If when I pointed guns at people and pulled the trigger and saw them get shot they actually got shot all the time

Compare it to the M-93r. The 1911 is god

I honestly thought you were trying to heal me with your wrench.
This also works surprisingly well against tanks. I usually think someone is trying to repair, then I explode.
But I'm just a silly goose.

I haven't been able to find proper NZ servers on PC, I generally just go to aus ones or do a full refresh and sort by increasing ping
