Waking Dreams?

So, I've had this issue for a very long time. Sometimes I go long periods of time without an episode, but it never goes away entirely. Basically, I hallucinate in the middle of the night. I'm not always sure if I've slept at all, whether I just woke up, whether I'm still dreaming, what. I see things. Something crawling on the walls, things falling out of the ceiling, strings everywhere, the ceiling collapsing, my girlfriend as other people.

Most recently I had an entire conversation with my girlfriend as though she were a completely different person and really freaked her out before I snapped out of it. When I was younger I thought my ceiling was collapsing and put my hands through a ceiling fan to hold it up.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Is it ever going to go away? Am I a complete weirdo? :?

It's a bit worrying, particularly when it involves other people or potentially injuring myself.

I get this, a little. Usually it's me waking up during a dream and my brain still going with it for a minute or so. Like one time I woke up and just knew there were snakes under the covers with me. I jumped out of bed and went to turn on the light, and by the time I got to the light, I realized it was a dream. I had one recently where I woke up and thought I smelled smoke. Then I looked at the door, with a light in the hall outside, and it looked really smokey, so I freaked out and shot out of bed to go check. Of course, by the time I got to the door, I realized I'd imagined it all, and I didn't smell or see smoke anymore.

I don't really know what causes it or how to prevent it, though. I can just say it's not just you. If it's bad enough to worry you, you may want to check into getting a sleep study done.

I get these too. It usually has to do with seeing a spider going under the blanket, or a rat, or a cockroach. Like Sir Carcass I sometimes jump out of bed and turn on the lights.

I noticed however that this only happens if I'm really stressed out during those days. On weekends and holidays it doesn't happen.

That being said, mine have never been as strong as you described, like talking to my girlfriend as if she was a different person.

I don't know specifically what they are, but eating / drinking certain things before bed may suppress dreams. I imagine this would help your problem. You should look into it.
