It's funny how two covers, drawn by the same guy (for the same month mind you), can be on opposite ends of the suck / awesome spectrum.

It's always a bad sign when the artist feels the need to throw in earthquakes, fire and smoke into a nonsensical mush in the background, to make up for the dull-as-paint-drying composition in the foreground.

Well when She-Hulk and Iron Man are grappling, it's safe to say that they would, in fact, crack the ground beneath them.

But yeah that's still a terrible cover.

And what the hell is going on in that New X-Men cover?

No, Kirkman is advising. I think the regular AoD writer is writing the crossover.

The cover's for the new Nova series spinning out of Annihilation. As for the New X-Men issue for that month...

[spoiler:729c7f53c6]...looks like the team's gonna learn all about Illyana Rasputin and what House Of M might have done to change her current status. BTW, isn't one of Nightcrawler's old girlfriends the current Magik now?[/spoiler:729c7f53c6]

Honestly, I'm not quite sure what all the hate is about. The forward shoulder is a bit awkward, and there's a bit more blue glowing action than I remember
[spoiler:e4a20d236b]which I assumed was part of Annihilation[/spoiler:e4a20d236b] but other than that it doesn't look bad at all.

That may be perfectly valid, since I know jack all about any of his other work, but this here looks pretty good to me. I'm not sure I'd want a book full of art exactly like this, but as far as covers go it doesn't seem bad at all.

Ours is not to question. Why are Iron Man and She-Hulk technically not even hitting each other in their cover? It looks like someone took two action figures and set them together to make it look like they were fighting.

Except that you can pose action figures to actually be hitting each other nowadays.

So, no? Considering the checkered history of sales for the series, I'm not liking the chances of it getting made an ongoing.

I really hope it addresses the controversy that would inevitably surround having an American agent (with a flag on his chest, no less) on a Canadian superhero team. It's not that we don't like you guys, it's just that a large part of the national identity comes from defining the ways in which we are not American, and there would be a lot of resentment around having someone on the team who answers to the American government.

But, I'm guessing that won't be covered. As a Canadian I am legally obligated to check this out, but the team line-up doesn't really interest me. I hope it pans out well, though.
