Also, the songs (because they are actually different songs) that play at various points through the game are not Leona Lewis. Her song only plays once, at the very end of the game.
The opening cutscene of Chapter 12 is all kinds of awesome.
Yes, it's truly awesome in its awfulness.
Somber scene where everyone is talking about how they have to win the trust of the common people despite being L'Cie. Immediately followed by the party skydiving into an F-Zero race and busting stuff up. Zuh...what? That's really going to win people to your side.
So, is there a way to get some Adamantite without spending a bajillion gil? I just got my Axis blade up to the top of Tier 1
No, unfortunately not.
I havent found any mobs that drops them at least, and I found some that drop Dark Matter, even some that drop Ribbons (Cactuar girls can drop those, and they are extremely easy to miss) I got the Axis Blade as Lights Omega Weapon,
so I dont have the near stagger thing Lionheart does, and it has about about 200+ str. more, but I can dish out more attacks, which I believe does way more damage in the end, also 200 str. is really not much, think I got like 2515 str.
Edit: I found it really odd that Adamantoises (or at least one of the oretoises) doesnt drop Adamantite.
Overall it's considerably worse. That jpop garbage, oh god. They keep playing remixes to it.
The battle theme and a few other songs are amazing, though. His more traditional compositions are really strong.
I assume you're talking about Hamazu here, yet Uematsu has been doing exactly the same thing since FFVIII - Eyes on Me variations were all over that game - there was a piano version and a waltz-y one off the top of my head.
Then FFIX did it with Melodies of Life, where it was the overworld music (and also was sung by Dagger).
THEN FFX had Suteki da Ne, which was also Yuna's theme and played in one key scene and the credits.
Then for no clear reason FFXII had Kiss me Goodbye.
Then there's the fact that unless you were playing the japanese version you didn't HEAR the final theme as it was replaced by a song by Leona Lewis. The only other vocal "j-pop" song in the game is the menu theme which in fact is a piano piece and just gets a vocal arrangement for one reasonably short cutscene.
There were other vocal pieces, but I wouldn't call them j-pop and personally quite enjoyed them (feel free to differ on that point)
I agree I loved the battle theme however - I'm surprised that I've seen a lot of people complaining about how they got sick of it after the first fight.
I was listening to all these in succession and I noticed something I thought was funny. Eyes On Me is very whimsical, almost Disneyesque. Melodies of Life, too. Then they get increasingly less like a Disney Song and become more Jpop-ey. OH THE TIMES, THEY ARE A-CHANGING

Bummer. So I basically have to wait for the end game to get Tier 2 on the Axis Blade. Mega bummer.

There is a sure way to get enough Gil for that in late chapter 11
You can find this little robot (looks like Wall-E) named Bhakti in Oerba, fix him up and you get like 550.000 gil worth of stuff, there is a teleporter Ci'eth stone nearby too, if you want to go back for sidequests, otherwise the Chocobo Treasure hunt might give enough gil earlier than that (if you do missions) I never got why Axis Blade needs such an expensive catalyst, although one of Sazh's weapon is worse, the Procyons need a Dark Matter... And its the only one that does.
I finally managed to get the time to beat this last night.
The game really started to fall apart in chapter 10, when all the story and character development got replaced with grinding. Chapter 12 picked back up, but then Chapter 13 went a little long.
Then again, I don't think I've ever played an RPG that doesn't fall apart when it starts the "Let's be open and let people do sidequests" portion of the game.
How can Chapter 13 have "gone a little long" when it literally just the final dungeon, pre-boss cutscenes, and the final boss fight?
I'd say pretty much the opposite, the game only came to life in Chapter 9 after the worst intro ever, and then found it's feet finally in chapter 11 where things are actually good. I had more emotional investment in the battle in some random side mission against a boss level mark than I did fighting anything through chapter 8.
This is definitely the kind of thing that comes down to taste. Chapter 11 was just running around killing random things for no reason. If I wanted to do that, I'd play an MMO. I much prefer the story-driven nature of chapters 1-9 and 12.
I'll agree that the gameplay progression was a bit too slow in the early chapters, but the story kept me going. Then you hit chapter 11 and suddenly your justification for killing stuff is apparently that Snow is bored and hasn't done enough hero stuff lately.
How can Chapter 13 have "gone a little long" when it literally just the final dungeon, pre-boss cutscenes, and the final boss fight?
It's not that it's long in the abstract sense. I just found it far too long for what they were working with. After about the fourth time the platforms rearranged on me I started to get tired of chasing down that floating thing (Eden?).
I would have much preferred just fighting a few of the nastier enemies in a boss gauntlet style fight. Even if I did accidentally beat one of them in 30 seconds when my Random: Instant Chain triggered and put a normally unstaggerable enemy to 999.9%
Starting off with Sab/Sab is a fucking waste of time because Fang just stands there doing nothing. And during the time he just stands there you're too busy trying to get your health back up after his utter rape series of attacks to do much damage to him and then the annoying cycle continues. I didn't mind Odin, and I didn't mind Barthalandus. But this fight is such utter cock I'm a hair's breadth away from abandoning the game and going to do something fun instead. And yes, I've done a bunch of the stone missions to get better stats, but if the only way to do this is to fuck off and grind for four hours I'm going to just stop because what the fuck. Am I being dense? Is there a strategy to beat this fucker I'm not seeing?
And only two people for this fight? Such bullshit.

Its been a while since I did that, but I think I used Sab/Sen - Med/Sen when needed.

If you haven't spent any CP on Vanille's Medic tree yet, do that. The first node is another ATB slot, which is hugely beneficial for that fight.
Other than that, stick with SAB/SEN and MED/SEN as needed -- just spam Deprotect and Cura/Curaja as needed.

It's definitely the lamest Eidolon fight. Here's how I beat it:
I upgraded my Tetradic Tiara to max level and disassembled it into Sprint Shoes. Once Vanille had Auto-Haste the couple extra actions she got were just enough to push me over the top.
Also use Com/Rav to build a little bit of distance between Fang and Vanille to make sure they aren't both caught in his attacks.
Quick question about weapon/item leveling. I've been pretty much just acting like a mad man, throwing anything I can get my hands on to level up my equipment. Is there anything I should be careful about, like any items that shouldn't be used or that should be saved for anything?
The most effective way to upgrade an item is to use 36 Sturdy Bones, Barbed Tails or Vibrant Ooze on it to boost the item up to a 3x EXP Multiplier and then use a high EXP yield item (or items) on it. The items that will get you the most bang for your buck are:
1. Ultracompact Reactor – 40,000exp – buy for 50,000gil from R&D Depot
2. Particle Accelerator – 4,800exp – buy for 10,000gil from R&D Depot
3. Superconductor – 400exp – buy for 840 from Lenora's Garage
4. Perfect Conductor – 751exp – buy for 1,600gil from Lenora's Garage
In other words, stack the multiplier to 3x with animal parts. Then use electrical parts.

Yeah, I'm not grinding the fuck out of things just to earn a ton of cash to upgrade shit to pass a boss fight. I'll try Blackjack and Mortal's advice, though. Cheers, guys.
The world was pretty cool but wow, the story, writing and storytelling itself were depressingly bad. Not as consistently bad as Star Ocean 3 but still, it had a few moments which I don't think would've felt out of place in SO3.
And while the gameplay was pretty good, it was still a washed down copy of FFX-2's system, which actually gave you control of the entire bloody team.
Overall I don't think it's as bad a game as I originally thought but I'd still call it the worst main-line FF I've played. I'm not sure if I want to push on to try to get the platinum, since it seems like there's a LOT of grinding needed and I really want to start Yakuza 3 already.
Posts like this confuse me.
If it's the worst game in the series, why in the world would you keep playing after completing it?
Uh, because worst game in a series != worst game ever? I'm not sure how you can be confused about that, I even specified that I was just talking about the main-line FF's, so excluding the real crap like Dirge of Cerberus and FFTA.
Anyway, I just got the Growth Egg and it makes grinding so much easier. I'll play it a bit more over the next few days, see how I go and if I'm still even interested in playing it more.
And it's such a fucking great position for a frustratingly difficult boss battle as well. The only enemies nearby you can actually grind on are a single pudding and a rock-hard phalanx/hoplite mob that wreck your shit unless you can summon to take the heat off. And hey, since you just came this way you'll have already used your summon and be unable to gather any more TP before taking them on again. Genius placing for maximum controller-throwing frustration.

Obviously a little late since you beat it, but upgrading a Tetradic Tiara only takes about 2000 experience..

Woo, completed and 5 starred all missions. That was fun. Some notes:
- Mission 55 Neochu is the hardest boss in the game. Consider that the final mission's boss uses very similar attacks but they are all inferior to Neochu's! Plus Neuchu has babies.
- A pet peeve of mine is when people complain about endless grinding in JRPGs when it's a bunch of crap for 95%+ of post NES games. I killed a couple of turtles in hopes of the upgrade drop, but otherwise, I never fought anything unnecessary for XP. I barely maxed 2 roles, let alone 6.
- The final weapon system is terrible and don't worry much if you miss them. I broke down two genji gloves for Fang and Light's weapons but didn't get to see any others.
- I 5 starred each mission as I did them. You get an item from the final mission to give you more time but it would have been really tedious to redo them all. Plus the challenge was fun.
- Shrouds are stupidly good, abuse them.
Overall, I really enjoyeda the game -- more than most recent FFs. I've never bothered to try and complete much of the post-game stuff before. The story is dumb but not offensively so and I really, really enjoyed the battle system. I'll end up playing Resonance of Fate sooner or later and that is supposed to have excellent combat too. It annoys me that I am going to play the Dragon Age expansion next and have to go back to that clunky ass combat, but at the same time have vastly superior writing/dialogue. I wish someone would combine the better parts of JRPGs and WRPGs.
Ok I think I made a mistake in upgrading the Axis Blade a lot. Now I might scrap those plans and go for something with a little more bang, since even at the ultimate weapon, the axis blade has loooow stats and it takes away the boost potential... so nevermind.
Ah, I see... But even then, at maybe a 30% increase in ATB charge, I'm only putting out 130% of the maximum total damage for the Axis blade, which doesn't come close to the maximum potential damage for some of the other weapons.

If you want the highest evenly divided stat weapon with no negative properties, go for Blazefire Saber, its cheap, its efficient.
I prefer Axis Blade since it made the 5 Starring stuff hilariously easy, especially when paired with Army of One (it regenerates a little ATB from every single attack with this move,
resulting in about 3 out of 6 ATB bars charged before you are done attacking, it can also be used to "postpone" the stagger bar and other stuff) Fang does the heavy hitting, and Lightning is super fast in my party.
I had Blazefire, Lionheart and Axis Blade full tier 2 at the same time, because I didnt know which one to choose for Omega Weapon, I ended with Axis Blade mainly because its the only weapon in the game that has an ATB charge.

Alright, that sounds good. I'll give it a try. I do like the Axis Blade, but I also like having a lot of hitting power.
Plus is there any way to get the Tetriadic (probably not spelling that right) Tiara to definitely give me Hermes Boots or whatever that item is? EDIT: Upon dismantling, that is?
Double Edit: Never mind. I suppose I just upgrade the Tiara all the way, then dismantle, then I've got the boots?

Tetradic Crown gives Hermes Sandals + a 12.500 gil item and some talismans, Tetradic Tiara gives the same, but Sprint shoes instead of Hermes Sandals (Auto-Haste instead of Critical: Haste) you need them to be * marked before disassembling for the items, but its laughably cheap, its one level for maxing them, like 500/1000 points IIRC, Ci'eth Mission 7 mark can drop both the Crown and the Tiara (normal and rare drop) and you can do that as much as you want.
Orphan to be a sad, tragic character was I? With a name like Orphan I was expecting some poor enslaved creature by the fal'Cie who didn't want the world to end and didn't particularly want to be murdered by your team either. But no, we just got what appears to be the leader of the fal'Cie. They really could have done something twist-y with that. Oh well.
I'm on Chapter 7 right now, and I feel like the game is ending. I can't possibly conceive how this game will work when it opens up in 11. A questions for when I get there: Should I do all the missions then and there? I've think I've been told not to elsewhere.

I had Blazefire, Lionheart and Axis Blade full tier 2 at the same time, because I didnt know which one to choose for Omega Weapon, I ended with Axis Blade mainly because its the only weapon in the game that has an ATB charge.

Does not bode well for my girl power team.
