Trying to Open a virus infected .doc

Trying to open a word document that was infected with a virus. But every time I try it tells me I don't have the permissions. This is the only file I have and just opening it anyway possible would be great.

Long Version:
The file came from a mac infected with a MS Word virus. My AVG detected it when I transferred it over to my vista laptop. Being the stupid person I am I quarantined it and vista apparently locked up the permissions on it. I took it out of quarantine but now it won't work with any programs I tried, including OpenOffice, and winzip. I tried uploading it to Mediafire but vista keeps blocking me.

If anyone has any idea what to do please help me out.

You could probably open it from within a linux livecd, though I imagine there are quicker and simpler ways.

I'm just curious here, but if you know that the file is infected, why are you trying to open it still? I don't follow the logic.

Clearly there is something in the document he wants to retrieve. I mean, if I had worked on something for days I wouldn't let a virus force me to start over, if at all possible.

linux livecd is probably the best, most safe option.

Seems like the easiest solution would be dealing with it at the source (the Mac) and getting a clean copy of the file.

I had no idea that word macros were still a problem, are they using an ancient version of MS Office or something?

I don't know if this is a dangerous suggestion, but can you just manually change the permissions back? Right-click/properties/security etc.

My thought as well. If you have admin access, you should be able to change permissions.
