So I finally upgraded my old phone and got a Motorola Razr V3c, and now I'm trying to figure out the process of getting new ringtones on it. Is it free? Where are the best places to get them? How do I get them on the phone? I would love some video game ringtones... like the codec from MGS, for example. Basically, is it possible to get any midi or mp3 file on the phone, and if so, how?
When I got my razr the lady who sold it to me told me that there's a kit available that lets you transfer mp3 files directly from your pc to your phone. I don't own one so I can't vouch for the truth of this statement.

Check your phone for a TransFlash bay. It's probably under the battery (moto sucks like that). Anywho, you could purchase a TransFlash card (also called MicroSD) and transfer your audio files to the phone using that.
I have Moto Razr V3 (GSM, not CDMA) and I use a program called Mobile PhoneTools. It costs like 30 bucks and lets you connect your phone to your computer through USB or Bluetooth. It comes with an MP3 editor and lets you do quite a bit with your phone.
Other than that, you can enable internet access on your plan and download ringtones through the browser. I forget how much they were, but I want to say $2.99, $4.99, or $5.99 per ringtone. I was using Cingular, I don't know if that matters.

It's been made abundantly clear that Ten O'Clock is time for Rainbow Six. It is not time for other games! You might think that it is, but it isn't. Don't show up at 10:05! That's not when it is. It is earlier.
With all of my phones with MP3 capability I've been given a connection cable and a program that lets you transfer files between the phone and PC, though I've never had a Motorala so they could just be dicks.

I've got a Razr V3 as well and got mobile phone tooth with it for free.
I didn't get a cable with my phone (the EnV, though for the record I didn't know it was called the EnV at the time ) Anyhow I use a site that allows you to send MP3s to your phone as a text message. I use Nero Wave Editor to get the portion I want cut, then send it with this service. It's free to use, but the free portion has a delay between when you upload and when they actually send to your phone. The site is mobile17.com (I swear I'm not a shill)
Nonetheless it works, and it's a lot better than paying through your providers service (I think so at least, $1.99 for a ringtone is a lot, plus in my case, Verizon doesn't carry any music I'd like to use) I'm still debating getting a USB hookup for the phone as that would just be easier.
You can use a USB2.0 cable to transfer anything to your phone (or atleast I can with my V3r), although you might need an SDMini card in there. I found a 512MB one for $20ish a few months ago, and it doubles as an internal thumb drive of sorts. I used the USB2.0 cable from my MP3 player (I also had another one lying around anyway), used audacity to cut down a version of Annabelle Lee by Tiger Army into a pretty cool ringtone. This my personal ace method, and with it anything that you can get into MIDI or MP3 format is game, as well as any cool art you want for your background.
Edit: Sorry to be dropping so many specifics, but I thought that it would be a good way to cover my entire process so you wouldn't run into any snags.
Most phones these days can record audio to use as a ringtone. Just trim down an .mp3 file or whatever until its what you want, then play it at really high volume while you record with the phone.
Its free, and offers your entire music/movie collection as ringtones.
