Everquest had some awesome starting areas too. Some shitty ones too, but let's gloss over those. I recall the dwarven one being good, but my personal favorite was always the emo evil Erudite necro starting area/city. A big fucking pit that you could fall in and die, and a bunch of lowbie skeletons in a nice glade that no one was ever at because the entire Erudite island was a fucking ghost area.
This is my EQ Classic thread in G&T, where you can play EverQuest on a classic server for free. There are a FUCK TON of players, too.
I'm currently playing very sporadically while I try to get through my backlog of games, but I have a 34 Cleric on there. For right now, it has only the classic zones, but Kunark will be released sometime this year. The last thing that happened was the Temple of Sol Ro being released.

sneak you have to buy the game still
and does the 2.50 steam version work with the free servers?
The discord server was alot of fun for the month or two it was open. FFA PVP + Perma Death on a Classic server, I don't think I ever made it past level 20 before my dreams were crushed by a congratulations you are level 1 again message you would recieve everytime you died.

this is a thing for fast-paced games like Diablo 2. Not the soul-crushing grind of EQ.

I remember my very first raid on the North Wing of Temple of Veeshan. That shit was INTENSE.
Also, what is this I hear about free servers? For THIS game?
I got a free trial on the front of a PC magazine and ended up playing for 2 years. In which time I went from the lowbie zones of Qeynos Hills ( Sony EQ spelt backwards trivia fans! ) and delving in the depths of Splitpaw. I met a member from my future guild there and ended up becoming one of our key raid leaders and took my guild all the way to the elemental planes in Planes of Power.
I could go on and on and on about various memories I have. Soulfire quest runs for the complete heals, getting a Fungi tunic for my Iksar monk, raiding Plane of Fear, finally getting the Petrified Heartwood Flamberge from Tunare after a Plane of Growth full clear ( that took soooooooo long ), etc, etc.
I didn't look up any names there. I can remember it clear as day. I had some of my best gaming experiences in EQ and met some truly exceptional people.
I remember taking my level 12 gnome rogue down to Lower Guk at 2:00 AM on a school night. I'd sneak+hide in Lower Guk, sit by the ghoul assassin and wait for a higher-level group to come kill it so I can get the Mask of Deception.

Also, monster button.
I started playing around the start of the Luclin era. I managed to get a Mask of Deception when they introduced the NPC casino.

Also, Camp Check!
I got one on my bard when I was level 14ish by just following a group around everywhere.
I think the most memorable EverQuest moment I had was a "Halfling High Jump" GM event where a bunch of people made level 1 halflings and a GM teleported us up to a cliff in Rivervale. Who ever jumped the farthest out was the winner. I stayed up until about 1 AM on a school night, but at least I won. They did a server wide message announcing the winner for it and I got easily 75+ tells instantly.

But admittedly if it was easy enough to do with any race, I probably would have chosen gnomes every time.
i can't let myself near this i'll go fuckin crazy and lose my job
you bastards
you bastaaarrrddsss
nah
played EQ for a year
never got past like level 23 because i was too busy making new characters and exploring
This, totally this
and does the 2.50 steam version work with the free servers?
which makes me make my sadface
oh well, though, I'm sure they'll get it working soon enough
In all honesty if they've added much content I don't think I'd mind wasting hours on it again.
There are ways to get the specific client you need without purchasing the game. It's not even piracy since it's a game client for an MMO.
EDIT: And no, you specifically need the EverQuest Titanium to play on the server.
Was it Trakkanon?
Alex, are we playing this when the free servers become available? Are we?
Twitch (I stream most days of the week)
Twitter (mean leftist discourse)
After they made the graphics retarded I couldn't stomach it any more. But I pretty much played it nonstop throughout middle school.
I dunno, I guess? I'll still get bored super fast, I imagine, but at least then I won't get bored and lose more money.

I think I ran away the first time I saw a Necro with his Spectre pet.

But if there are people around on the server that would be cool.
