I had previously started the old new Pokémon thread, now I'm starting the new old Pokémon thread (I ran out of ideas).
The mysterious silhouette of the first Pokémon from gen five was revealed:
Zoroark, the deceiving Pokémon.
Welcome to the G&T Pokémon thread, where we trade, battle and share opinions on the little critters.
If you don't care about Pokémon, then GTFO.
Pokémon short for ポケットモンスター or Pocket Monsters. They are creatures that are each one based on an element and are able to attack with moves from those elements. You use your own creatures to capture more and more species you find in the wild. There are 493 of them, and each one has a varying degree of usability in battle.
Tiers, much like in fighting games, will give you an idea of which of them will make it more likely to win a match, but won't necessarily guarantee your victory. For the most up-to-date tier list and probably the most reliable and most used, please refer to
Smogon, which also offers examples of movesets and EV spreads that will give you an idea of what to do with yours.
If you want to be a trainer, and don't even know which version to buy, you can either get Diamond or Pearl for your battling needs, although there is a third version, Platinum (which is out now) and you might want to grab that one instead, as it features several options not available in Diamond or Pearl. There are also two other versions coming, Heart Gold and Soul Silver which are remakes of the game that came out exactly ten years ago in Japan.

What you need to start battling:
- First of all, finish the main game first. Trying to understand and manipulate EVs and IVs before that will be a pain.
- Once you've beaten the Elite Four, the real fun* begins. First, give
Individual Values or IVs a read. You will also want to know everything about
breeding and
Effort Values or Evs.
Natures Natures should also be read.
- Now that you know some things about EVs, you can either grind at the Battle Tower for the points needed to buy the
Power Items or borrow them from someone who is used to play here at G&T. These items will make EV training much easier.
- If you aren't sure what to do with your Pokés, check out
Smogon for some tips that will help you choose an appropriate EV spread and moveset for your Mons.
- Check out Psypoke's
EV training spots.
- Also, check out what's inside the spoiler for a better way to breed eggs (doesn't work in Platinum):
- You might want to check
Chen's list of what you should consider adding to your team:

- And more importantly: Have fun! It doesn't matter if you win or lose. You must have learned something from experience, and if your newest creation wasn't as good as thought it'd be and you want to keep it boxed, don't feel discouraged. We all have trained some Pokémon that we'll never use again because it sounded better on paper than it performed in practice.
General battling rules
- Pokémon battles through Wi-fi automatically level your Pokémon to either levels 50 or 100. So you don't have to train them to level 100 yourself, saving a lot of time. In fact, it will be better if you don't level them up all the way to level 100 since you at that stage you won't be able to edit your Pokés' EVs.
-Sleep Clause: you may not put more than one of your opponent's Pokémon to sleep at a time.
-Species Clause: your team must be comprised of six different species of Pokémon.
-Suicide Clause: If both players are down to their last Pokémon, the player with the first Pokémon to hit 0 HP is the loser. In other words, using moves like Self Destruct and Explosion cause you to lose, even if it kills your opponent. However, using a move with a recoil that kill both you and your opponent is a win for you.
-No Legendary Pokémon whatsoever. This includes
Wobbuffet and
Garchomp.
Warnings
- Do NOT buy Pokémon Battle Revolution unless you hate yourself.
- If you use U-Turn with a Choice Banded Pokémon, and your next Pokémon also has U-Turn, it will be locked to U-Turn as well. It seems this was a glitch in DP ans was fixed in Platinum. Thanks to Ashton Dragon for the first bit of information and to InvisibleInk for the second bit.
- If your opponent Yawns you and you have a Chesto Berry, you might not want to use Rest, because at the end of that turn you will have woken up with the Chesto Berry after Resting, then you'll fall asleep again because of the Yawn.
- Don't take a bath with your
Tentacool.
- Beware: The game is very addictive once you join the community. Make your time.

The G&T Pokémon League
Hi! Welcome to the exciting world of Pokémon! As an aspiring young Pokémon Trainer you're welcome to enter the G&T Pokémon League and prove your worth by challenging various skilled Trainers and earning their badges! Each badge will edge you closer to becoming a Pokémon Champion! Dare to give it a try?
Standard Gym Rules
Each Gym Leader is bound to a certain type. A minimum of four Pokémon must adhere to that type. A Gym Leader may summon two species of a different type if he or she desires. However they must abide by having a move of the gym's type. For all intents and purposes, Hidden Power is of the Normal type.
You may choose any six Pokémon he or she wishes to challenge any Gym Leader. However you must abide by the following rules:
Uber Clause: The use of Uber Pokémon is forbidden. Click here for a list of Ubers.
Legendary Clause: The use of Legendary Pokémon is forbidden. Click here for a list of Legendaries.
Sleep Clause: You cannot put two of your opponent's Pokémon to sleep at the same time. (Rest not applicable)
Evasion Clause: No moves that increase evasion such as Double Team and Minimize may be used. Things like Sand-Attack and Sand Veil are still legal.
Species Clause: No two of the same Pokémon may be used on one team.
One-Hit KO Clause: One-hit KO (OHKO) moves, such as Horn Drill or Sheer Cold, are forbidden.
Selfdestruct Clause: The moves Selfdestruct, Explosion, Perish Song, Destiny Bond, or any other such move may not be used if both players only have 1 remaining Pokémon. If a player uses one of those moves under this condition, they automatically lose.
Optional Gym Rules
Item Clause: All items are limited to one per team.
<Insert Move> Clause: The use of <insert move> is forbidden.
Double Battle: 2vs2 battles are initiated.
Gym Activity
A Gym Leader may lose his or her status through inactivity. If a Gym Leader does not respond to your challenge by PM, please notify us by posting in this thread.
You may challenge an active Gym Leader and take over his or her gym by defeating him or her and abiding to the Gym Leader Rules. To clarify, you are limited to four Pokémon of that particular gym's type and two Pokémon of a different type that must carry a move of the gym's type.

...oh dear
- you have a 4th gen DS game and a bunch of trained 'mons on it.
- you really like the Battle Frontier, so much so that you want more of the same.
- fighting online randoms who use 6 Darkrai on a team sounds like fun.
Also, I should probably train up 1 or 2 more guys who can fight, for the Elite 4, huh?
I enjoyed staying up late playing one night, with the difficulty gradually increasing from American noobs using the default team cards in the evening to Japanese players practicing with their VGC teams at 5 AM or so.
ok i'll stop
ok got a quick question-
How i train for elite 4?
Meaning, where are pokemon around level 40-ish besides Victory road and that water path heading up to victory road?
Kinda hard to train some of my pokes on water, fighting, and rock dudes
Speaking of which, can you use a level 50/100 option in local wifi with HG/SS?
Dump your money in the First National Bank of Mom, fight the E4 until everyone faints, black out, repeat?
That's what I was going to do until I did so well that I kept going and won
I'm going to buy a used GBA Micro so I can play this without lugging the DS around. Looks like $40 on Amazon
there seems to be some WILD inconsistencies....
Won't deny it's pretty flawed though. A far cry from Pokemon Stadium 2, that's for damn sure.
Gamestop has them for $29.99 now if you can find any, assuming the one on Amazon is used too. Most of the Gamestops around me have some in stock, but YMMV I guess.
3DS / Pokemon XY: 0774-5590-9276
It seems to work well for that as well; I put a skorupi up for trade for a shieldon and got one in a few days
also WTB male nidoran w/poison point paying 1 skorupi
Then you put up your pokemon for the trade.
As a rule you're not going to find what you need from other people.
Online I've had a lot of great matches. I think it depends on the time you try to go on Wifi.

You can trade for any Pokemon, but you have to have them in your Pokedex first. I don't know how you're supposed to see starter and legendary Pokemon, though..
You come across all the Kanto starters (or their evolutions) pretty early on
And then there's your rival's pokemon
And you can see the Legendary Dogs before you catch them
Ok, need a way to make it so Entei/Raikou/Latios stay in battle.
Mean Look and Spider Web don't work if you switch out.
FFFFFF-
Baton Pass still works.
Oh, in that case-
No one who learns Mean Look/Spider Web learn Baton Pass
FFFFFFF-
Then I'll just-
Baton Pass isn't a TM
...then I have to...
Yup you gotta breed.
I hate breeding.
Yeah, you're gonna need a Nincada
Good thing it's Saturday.
Yeah, but he doesn't learn Baton Pass until he evolves. Nincada doesn't learn it.
Oh, and he doesn't learn it until late.
FFFFFFF-
Umbreon.
You just blew my mind. I just got heart gold, and I was in the middle of trading myself breeding pairs of the starters. If Ditto can breed with them, that just saved me a lot of extra time.
During which game? Gold and Silver?
Smeargle
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Jolly
EVs: max Speed, balanced defenses
- Mean Look
- Ingrain
- Double Team
- Baton Pass
Breloom
Item: Toxic Orb
Nature: Adamant
EVs: max Atk + Speed
- Swords Dance
- Seed Bomb
- False Swipe
- Spore
I can clone and trade.
WHAT?
I was checking Serebii and he didn't come up.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCK
I'd like a pair of those guys. I don't even have a dude with false swipe on my team right now.
Umbreon doesn't learn Baton Pass. Evee does. That might have screwed you up.
FC is in the sig. If you want to add 4 Dittos to the trade specify natures and I can be on in a minute.
Oh, well. Damn.
I do have an Eevee already. But I also already have an Umbreon.
Decisions, decisions.
Yeah
Someone outside Goldenrod has a Bulbasaur. Then at some point before the 7th badge I had fought a Charmeleon and a Wartortle, which I asked for via GTS and then bred to get Charmander/Squirtle.
The GTS has failed me today, though. I've had a "Smoochum for Clefairy" trade up for 2 days and no takers
There's a trainer who uses a Charmeleon in the Burned Tower of Ecruteak City, which is way earlier than the 7th badge. Also a swimmer in Route 40 just south of Olivine with a Wartortle, if you really want those forms at the earliest GTS opportunity.
