It's the system that rewards maximum in-game time that's ridiculous. People that follow a simple two step process to exploit the system to it's fullest are just being normal people.
Hahah 'internet normal'.
It's perfectly normal for people to figure out how they can get the most out of a given system. Tax refunds, food discounts, game strategies (both real-life and videogames). It's human nature to try to exploit a given situation.
Fixed.

Well, yes, but exploit isn't necessarily a dirty word.
EDIT: Well, hey, look at that. I finally get home and no one is playing.
You know, I would start up TF2 and help get a game going on one of the servers... IF Hey You weren't nerding it up on a dumb PUB server and hogging the TF2 computer.
When you guys end up on an episode of Cops, will you let us know?
So I played on a pub for about an hour and didn't get a single drop. Either I was wrong and the new system isn't in place yet, or it's not as plentiful as I've been lead to believe.
Okay, so in 3 hours I've gotten four items, which wouldn't have been unheard of back in the old system, but if that holds out then we're looking at a double drop rate.
In which case, if say, two hours a day (14 hours a week) is about average, you'd be looking at around 18-19 items a week. Compared to 100 before.
To put that into context, on average 135 hours before would get you enough crap to make a random hat, or about 6 days. Now it'd take you a little over four weeks, so about one hat a month.

I'll continue to gather data.
Except they mentioned you're going to reach your item cap per week at about an hour a day, so you're going to want to half those items per week.
So, as far as I can tell, everyone playing normally will get twice as many drops as before, while idlers will get barely any compared to how much they used to get (1/10th-1/5th). This seems like an improvement to me, and exactly what they were aiming for.

They said "an hour or so" so I rounded up to two hours.
So I dumpster dove a computer that should be somewhat better than my old one. I suppose I'll reinstall this monstrosity... I guess. My curiosity on how it runs has been piqued.

But really, I hope this damn thing runs better. It's not a new 'puter or anything--just my bro's old one. I couldn't play sniper at all before(slideshow) and even scout yielded many 0 damage seemingly-landed buckshots.

Yeah, but you'll only get like 1/10th the items, so now it'll take two months to build a hat; rather than a week.
Vaaaaaalve, where's my trading at? I still haven't gotten the hat I really want.
I have a quadruplicate (Officer's Ushanka)
