Playing with Bog and James in a ZZZ FFA, James destroys all my workers and my expansion and I just don't rebuild them. No reason for that in my head, I just... didn't... rebuild.
Does anyone have experience streaming games? I'm looking for something that can do it, and manycam works, but it causes game-lag for me. I don't mind if I can't capture the whole screen, but it needs to be playable.
Mind you maybe it's just the really slow HD I have things running on right now. Perhaps a SSD would fix this.
are you trying to stream or are you trying to record? I have been using Livestream's "procaster" app to stream some stuff over their service (did a bit of testing last night while playing with some PA folk) and that seemed to be fine, I had a bit of game lag but I'm 90% sure I can get rid of that by just closing programs I had running in the background.
edit: After initially starting playing random I think I'm going to start playing Zerg full time now, I seem to do much better when I play as them.
Also, teching straight to HTs is probably the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life ever.
Tossrock and I are working on our fungal growth+psistorm 2v2 strat. We're still getting the coordination down but it's pretty fun. We landed it on some carriers last night.
Hey gang, I've made a cool Melkster-inspired walkthrough of the Starcraft 2 beta for the website I work for, and if any of you had questions about Battle.net 2.0, or the very very basics of Starcraft, I've got you covered.

Am I the only person who thinks that Ultralisks are prohibitively expensive and time consuming to use? Lets compare the teching progression of the Ultralisk, Colossus and to a lesser extent, the Thor.
To gain access to the Ultralisk:
Spawning Pool 200/0 65sec
Lair 150/100 80sec
Infestation Pit 100/100 50sec
Hive 200/150 100sec
Ultralisk Cavern 150/200sec 65sec
For a total of 800 minerals, 550 gas and 360 (!) seconds you gain the ability to make the Ultralisk. On the way, you unlock four other units: Zergling, Queen, Overseer and Infestor. Note that aside from the Queen who is primarily a defensive unit, that no anti-air unit is unlocked in the teching path.
For a total of 700 minerals, 300 gas and 245 (!) seconds you can now build a Colossus from all your Robotics Facilities. In addition, you can now start building Zealots, Sentries, Stalkers, Observers, Warp Prisms and Immortals. A total of 6 units, including 2 anti-air options.
For a total of 500 minerals, 225 gas and 210 (!) seconds you can now build the lacklustre Thor from any Factory with a tech lab. You can also build Marines, Hellions and Siege tanks to support your doomed Thor. Nevertheless, this is extremely cheap and fast to gain access to a late game unit.
I am going to compare the Ultralisk to the Colossus since the two units are on a similar level of usefulness when put into an army. Though I would argue being a somewhat fragile high damage range unit is better than being a durable high damage melee unit.
Right away it is obvious that is much more expensive for the Zerg to gain access to its massive ground unit than the Protoss. However, the Zerg have all of their unit production centralized in one building and that saves them the cost of building more Gateways or Robotics Facility. This is further balanced by the Zerg having to decide to either use his or her larva to make drones or combat units. For a more fair comparison the Zerg player would add a hatchery (300/0) and either a Hydralisk Den (100/100) or a Spire (200/200) in addition to the above buildings. The Protoss player would build a nexus, two additional Gateways and another Robotics Facility.
This results in the Zerg player paying 1200/650 or 1300/750 and the Protoss paying 1600/400 to build more realistic bases. This is somewhat balanced in the sense that the Protoss pays more in Minerals while the Zerg does so in Gas, though I think the Zerg player gets the short end of the stick since gas is more valuable. But then again, Zerg can expand fast so it's balanced.
Now, what makes Ultralisks not as viable as they should be is the time required to reach the tech level where the Zerg player can start building them. It only takes 245 seconds or 4 minutes for a Protoss player to be able to start building their first Colossus while it takes a Zerg player 360 seconds or a 6 minutes to gain access to Ultralisks. This is extremely unreasonable even if a Zerg player can start building multiple Ultralisks as soon as the Ultralisk Cavern is up. They are so expensive at 300/200 that is impossible to rush more than 1 Ultralisk, so that's a non-issue. There is an additional resource and time cost of researching Chitinous Plating (+2 armor) and Anabolic Synthesis (speed) for a total of 300/300 220sec to make the Ultralisk viable. A large melee unit with only one base armor won't be able to survive any semblance of ranged focus fire. In comparison, the Colossus Extended Thermal Lances (+2 range) upgrade is only 200/200 140sec and instead makes a good unit better.
Combined with the general weak incentives to transition into hive tech, we end up in a world where the Ultralisk is rarely seen and the Zerg army, which is currently being criticized for a lack of unit diversity loses out even more.
However, I think there is hope.
I would recommend the following changes to make the Ultralisk and by extension, hive tech more attractive:
1. Reduce the Hive building time from 100sec to 50sec.
2. Reduce the Ultralisk Cavern building time from 65sec to 50sec.
3. Remove the Chitinous Plating and give Ultralisk a base armor of 3.
4. Increase the cost and build time of Anabolic Synthesis to 200/200 160sec from 150/150 110sec.
The end result of these changes is shaving off 65 seconds off the teching time to Ultralisk to have it be a much more reasonable 295 seconds or roughly 5 minutes in addition to make it viable without the Chitinous Plating upgrade.
Jesus they are touchy at teamliquid.net, I got temp banned for 2 days
You have been temp banned for 2 days by pangshai.
Reason: in 3 of your 5 posts you've managed to
1) bitch about a terrible stream
2) call someone pathetic for pirating the beta
3) insult someone for his thoughts on the patch
improve your posting or gtfo.
Do not attempt to circumvent this ban by making a new account, or your ban duration will be increased.
Some dude posted a stream link and within seconds of him posting it about 10 replies were made saying how amazing the stream was. I was excited so I checked it out, the quality was so low it looked like it was being recorded on a webcam. It was terrible so I posted that it was the lowest quality stream I have seen for SC2 (fact!).
Some guy pirated the beta and was trying to give advice to people on the forum so I called him out for it, how that hell is that an offense. The guy pirated a fucking beta and then tries to give advice on the forums.
Some other guy was whining about how Terran are a cheese race and Protoss are the one true race intelligent true players will play. This guy came off as an idiot so I told him that he sounded a little sore over a lost match to a Terran player.
How the hell does that get me a ban?
Being a competitive site I thought the standards would be a little higher. I guess I should have just stayed to bnet.

Typically being overly negative in opening posts is a bad first impression. Do you harshly criticize things in real life amongst people you just met as well?
Alright, since I didn't get a reply about the tournament is anyone interested in doing one Sunday or Monday (is Monday a holiday in the States?)?
I figure we do a 1v1 tournament over a couple hours one of those days, do best of ones for early games then go best of 3 for semi-finals, finals, and the 3rd place match.
hm i am starting to treat this more like a game, relaxing and experimenting a lot.I have won very few since, but have learned a lot and am having a lot more fun. Some findings from a zerg on Europe gold ladder:
-dropping things from upgraded overlords is so delicious but banelings are no lurkers...also it takes two years to research the speed and ventral sacs
-two to four banelings burrowed in the path of an attacking terran army can hit such a jackpot it might be worth it to do every game...once your attack fails, wait for the counter attack and BOOM
-as Lurk says, Ultralisks are pretty useless. Takes too long to get them and not as game changing as Brood Lords.
-against Protoss, if you can get timing of roaches down fast enough if you skip the queen you might be able to fend off a 2 gateway proxy rush. highly dangerous though, and requires excellent micro. I had to do this when I scouted it too late, and only barely failed because my timing was not perfect and I let my lings die too easily.
-against a fast expanding zerg, a devilish thing to do is to keep your scouting drone alive and when you attack with your first 6 lings, build a spine crawler on the edge of their creep inside their base. it will be just barely out of their view, and you can do some terrible terrible damage.
-muta switch from roaches against roaches is really fun but in the end it just takes very few hydras to counter many mutas. do at own risk.
-mutas just seem pretty weak overall because they can't quite stack anymore and you can't quite cancel their attack animations, plus you can't upgrade them for more options. definitely not the staple it used to be in BW
- terrans seem pretty good at holding the wall against baneling busts now, even building a bunker behind the wall after scanning my base for banelings
- Build 1 spine crawler if you scout reapers, or 2 if you suspect he will have many. Although each spine crawler is basically 3 drones in minerals, peace of mind is worth it, plus you won't lose mining time from the other 2 drone's worth of minerals. In addition, it prevents them from being cute and sneaking a few reapers into your base in the middle of a fight and causing you to lose a lot of drones.
Guess I just need to hold back and let the idiots be idiots.
TL doesn't seem to be to strict on who gets banned and who doesn't. By that I mean you can say some really insulting shit and nothing happens or you can say something near harmless and you get a warning/ban.
But in terms of commentating on a guys stream, I'd subscribe to the "if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all" thing. If other people are enjoying the stream then let them, there's no point posting some negative comment in a thread full of people who don't feel the same, even if you can't understand quite why they like it.
We actually see the same thing here when people come into an Starcraft thread and complain about... Starcraft >.>

I really enjoy the SC2 streams but I'm tired of being left out of the beta so I'm going to go cold turkey on SC2 streams. Plus I've watched all of HD and Husky's videos already, and Day9's are not fun to watch. (edit, not fun for me)

Really for me the worst part is the upgrades. You finally get up to ultra and are like "wooo, oh wait, i have to upgrade them twice before they're good."
That and the fact that your protoss or terran enemy likely already has the counter to ultras (marauders or immortals) up, or is capable of pumping them out.

There's a ton of SCBW stuff out there.
Gomtv.net has a ton of videos with Tasteless commentating. SC2GG.comhas a ton of different commentators like diggity/moletrap/husky (their knowledge is not that great though).
If you don't mind non-Korean stuff then TSL / TSL2 on Nevake's channel on youtube. Plus a whole lot of other events that TL has run like Liquibition or other show matches.

Crota/Blizzshouter's commentating is pretty bad. I would not recommend it to anyone. I watched a couple videos where he kept getting annoyed at himself for saying a specific phrase too often instead of commentating on what was going on. I don't know, he just comes across like he has no idea ever what to say, and trips over his words every other word.
Not saying I can do it better myself, but then again, this could be why I don't shoutcast.

Although each spine crawler is basically 3 drones in minerals, peace of mind is worth it, plus you won't lose mining time from the other 2 drone's worth of minerals. In addition, it prevents them from being cute and sneaking a few reapers into your base in the middle of a fight and causing you to lose a lot of drones.
and yeah, hope this info is useful to some of you
TL doesn't seem to be to strict on who gets banned and who doesn't.
(edit, not fun for me)
That's what I used for my most recent Ustream, but the quality isn't clear on text.
Keep in mind, though, this is throttled through my horrible internet speeds, not the Ustream Producer itself.
Tried to add you but said you're already in a party.
I am in the same position, I have watched all of HD and Husky's videos. I haven't found anyone else that is as good as they are. If you are desperate check out Crota/Blizshouter. A lot of people do not like his commentating but I don't find it too annoying.
I think you have to wait for Blizzard to decide to give him a friend invite.
