The first time I played through FF7, I did so without any sort of guide. So I had no idea that you could morph one random enemy into an item that removed the timer from the underwater Weapon fight. So I beat on that damn Weapon, watching my life tick away. I was almost out of time, and about to throw the controller down in disgust, when BAM, the screen flashes with the death animation. Then the timer ran out before the animation completed. Game over. "FUCK THIS SHIT!!!"

Final Fantasy IV: Golbez' relationship with Cecil, the fight with Edge's parents, the twins sacrificing themselves...the Big Whale (for how cheezy it was).

Final Fantasy VI: Pretty much anything dealing with Cyan or Locke, the coin flip, the world literally going to shit halfway through, the suicide attempt.

Final Fantasy VII: Just about all of it, at the time, was "Holy shit!" material for me, except for Aeris (I never liked her much, even on replays).

Half-Life: The G-man, going to Xen and hearing all the scary whispered dialogue at the beginning of each level there.

Xenogears: Dialogue problems, Soylent System, crucified gears, and second disk gameplay aside, it was the first time I played a JRPG that deep and moving. I still think that the romance between Fei and Elly is better than anything Final Fantasy could do. I felt crushed when Miang took over Elly. I actually felt close to tears.

Chrono Trigger: Magus. Saving Lucca's mother from injury. Using the Chrono Trigger, and Marle's reaction afterward.

Chrono Cross: Miguel because he was such a badass compared to other enemies. The Dead Sea. Serge's switch.

Leisure Suit Larry: Finally banging Eve.

Leisure Suit Larry 2: All of the creative ways to die, especially with the creepy older lady on the cruiseship. I miss those Al Lowe games. :(

QFG1: Like others said, stealing virtually everything in town.

7th Guest: Realizing that the pattern on one of the rugs is actually the map for the basement maze.

Prince of Persia: SoT: Just about the entire thing. Awesome game.

Pro Wrestling: The first game I ever beat. [spoiler:9889cb68cf]A winner is you![/spoiler:9889cb68cf]

    Kotor:

[spoiler:0e15045eb5]On the first play through when you meat Malick and have the flashback that finally reveals you to be Revan. I thought that was really well done. It was subtle enough so that you could have figured it out, but probably didn't unless you were really paying attention. Definitely one of my favorite plot twist moments to date.[/spoiler:0e15045eb5]

    EBA:

[spoiler:0e15045eb5]MUSIC LIVES! I was so pumped during the whole ending sequence of this game. Such intense awesome![/spoiler:0e15045eb5]

    1st time I...

Perfect Dark: Disgorged both entire clips from double-fisted Cyclones into a guy's head, chest, neck, torso, legs, arms and hands... while in slow-mo from Combat Boost. Laptop gun is a close second.

    Halo: The Flood.

    Gears of War: Berserker. OMFG.

Soul Calibur: The first evening I spent with this game, playing with my wife and our two best friends (another married couple). The beauty was, even though my wife doesn't usually play games, you don't have to know how to play games when you have a Soul Calibur party going--the controls are liquid silk laced with heroine-crack. We drank all night and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning wailing on each other--awesome Saturday night, that was.

Oblivion: Opening credit sequence. Also, somebody already said this way back, but I'll say it again: when you first emerge from the imperial sewers.

Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth: This game is a fucking shit-your-pants festival the whole way through. It had its problems and certainly isn't for everyone, but NO OTHER game has made me feel this creeped out and filled with an overwhelming sense of fear and dread.

HL2: Ravenholm and the first time I saw what the headcrabs actually do when they attach to their human hosts. Also, the first time I used the gravity gun/buzzsaw blade combo. Also, Striders. Also, my first crossbow kill with the red hot rebar bolt. Actually, I could make a seperate thread for all of the awesomesauce that is HL2.

Lots more I could list--maybe I'll do that later.

    Hell yes.

[spoiler:2b28111b9b]Not only that, but during the cheer, when you start hearing the openning chords to "Jumping Jack Flash". I kept thinking, "holy crap, what the hell kind of song is this?" and then it actually starts. Never saw it coming. For what the game was, it's one of the best final levels I've ever played.[/spoiler:2b28111b9b]

    On a similar note:

    LoZ: Twilight Princess:

[spoiler:2b28111b9b]Yeah, the duel with Ganondorf. Considering it came at the conclusion of a 4 part battle, I didn't see it coming at all. And when I nailed the "Chance" command, I was slack jawed as Link and Ganondorf locked swords. Which by that time looked like lightsabers. Dear god that was incredible.[/spoiler:2b28111b9b]

That whole last battle reminded me too much of the last fight in God of War.

FF7: The Observatory in Cosmo Canyon for the first time.

    Breathtaking.

All of Cosmo Canyon was breathtaking...some intense moments were shared there ;[.

[spoiler:07431ca3c8]Watching Red XIII change from "My father was a coward!" and starting to cry, and howl  Combined with the music, it was really moving.[/spoiler:07431ca3c8]

    You forgot the part where

[spoiler:07431ca3c8]The stone version of his father starts to cry up on the mountain top as the music plays[/spoiler:07431ca3c8]

Talk about lump in the throat.

You know, a "soft" really WOULD have helped there.

[spoiler:07431ca3c8] Would have helped Blink..or was his name Blank. Whoever got petrified in FFIX while running otu of that forest.[/spoiler:07431ca3c8]

[spoiler:07431ca3c8]You actually do go back and use an item called "Super Soft" on him later, optionally.[/spoiler:07431ca3c8]

[spoiler:07431ca3c8]Marcus does it, while you're in Alexandria Castle.[/spoiler:07431ca3c8]

After my friends and I moved into a new town with nothing to do we came up with an idea for a Final Fantasy 7 challenge where we sat four playstations and four T.Vs in the lounge and played non-stop till we finished the game. Or at least that was the idea. We started at nine at night.

Seeing as only two of us had actually played the game before that we were already off to a bad start, them trying to figure out the simple battle and materia system, misplacing materia, fighting bosses with no materia etc.

At the three hour mark I just escaped Midgar, one of the others had just entered Shinra H.Q, another was climbing to Shinra H.Q and another was waiting for the plate to fall.

About eight hours in I finished disk one however I felt like I was going to hurl so I lay down for a couple of hours then continued. I think one was not far behind me and the other two were stuck on the materia keeper.

After about sixteen hours I had finished disk two, my friend who had played before had given up after he took about ten tries at beating Demon Gate (I think that's his name), after he beat him his game froze while he trying to save. The others were still behind him.

At eleven that night I beat Sephiroth, after wasting time breeding chocobos then realising I didn't need to, total play time twenty hours.

I was so tired, my eyes hurt.

The other two quit, neither having got past disk one.

    P.S
It was totally unfair on the other two as they had no idea what they were getting into, one brashly claiming he would beat it in two hours, the other eventually beat the game at a later date but experienced a bug I'd never seen before in North Crater. Remember that part where you split up your team the first time? He ran right past them without talking to them somehow and now he can't start that whole conversation meaning he can't climb out of there and fight the Weapons as he wanted to.

    :x

I agree on the first time in open air on Oblivion thing.

Also climbing up the hill to Kvatch and watching as the sky slowly turns red. Then you get up and see the oblivion gate. Wow.

    All of Chrono Trigger.

    "Time, Doctor...Free...man?"

Playing the original Doom and crapping myself alot as a kid.

My friend's amazingly lucky homing missile shots in the original worms.
