Eh, with decent disc gear you can do pretty okay as shadow. I don't really focus on shadow at all, so I just change out some hit pieces and trinkets and it's good enough to lazy through solo/small group content/anonymous pug raids on old content.

I find that by the time I've swapped in enough hit to reach cap that I am not wearing any of my disc gear anymore. It doesn't matter, I've started slowly accumulating pvp gear and once I have that set I will respec the shadow spec into a more pvp friendly disc build. Ever since a rogue tried to stunlock gank me and failed as I zoned into WG Keep for a VoA-25 run I've been wondering if perhaps I should more seriously try my hand at priestly PvP.
I really find the gear score is the best mod ever! arguement somewhat annoying. some people are not lucky enough to have the gear compared to the skill
My priest is holy and shadow. I like holy more because for me it's easier to heal than using disc. But then I run into far too many bad tanks and suicidial dps that make me just want to give up on playing her
I find Gearscore mildly useful. It's nice to know (as a healer) at a glance if I'm going to need to really stay on the tank in a random 5-man. If the tank has a really high gearscore, that doesn't mean he's any good, it just means he isn't going to take as much damage as quickly. Conversely, a low GS tank might be great, but I will need to pay a lot more attention to him, and I will not even try to play around at dpsing in that instance.
-edit-
DPS gearscore doesn't matter, of course. If the dps is low the instance will just take longer. If DPS behaves stupidly I will let them die, regardless of their gearscore.
I do enjoy the silly geese from Frostmane. A mage tries repeatably to pull arggo off my warrior. I was told just give him vigilance. I said with the way he is acting I am going to give him a repair bill before vigilance
Happy: Got into a Pug 10 VOA after a guildie asked if anyone wanted to go. It was me and an ICC geared Shaman healing. I gave him a run for his money on the meters and even got a whisper at the end where he said he was impressed. Druid healing is OP.
Hate: Wave 9/10 wipe in H HoR last night. I just can not find a group that can make it. It sucks too because I feel like we could have done it with a minor adjustment or two but as soon as we wipe most of the group drops. /sigh.

I felt exactly the same as you, and the one time I finally succeeded at it, I was the replacement healer for the "adjustment" they made. What was truly gratifying is that mere moments after I had entered and we had started, the group started stating approval for my performance, they explained that the healer they booted had gone oom almost immediately.
At the very end of the instance, after we just fucking barely escaped Arthas' wrath (it's a really well tuned encounter, it feels incredibly threatening) I got a whisper from the boomkin telling me that what was sad was that I had done literally twice as much as the previous healer, with half the gear.

I really want to finish it now. It's like a personal goal at this point. My mana was holding up fairly well this last time too. It was still a mad rush (there is still a ton of splash damage) and man that poison is balls. I don't know what happened on that last wave. Something hit the mele group with an AOE and the rogue and DPS war just dropped. I hit Tranquility and almost immediately get ice tombed. You can imagine what happened from there. I am sure it will queue tonight again for me so we will see how this goes.
Confused: Wait, why isn't Vampiric Embrace being cast when I press the button?
Realization: Because at some point they changed it into a self-buff rather than a debuff that you cast on the enemy.
Happy: *tears*
It was the best moment ever when I realized this on my priesty alt, too, since I hadn't played a spriest since BC and hadn't paid a lot of attention to the changes. So, so happy about this.

I really want to level up a shadow priest. Maybe in a week or so after I grind out some more badges.
D'OH!: 5 sec off Earth, Wind, and Fire. I blame the RL on vent going "kill the empowered OMG KILL THE EMPOWERED" yet the boss was already dead and a bunch of us were tabbing for a few secs looking for the stupid empowered mob before realizing it despawned. Oh well next week.
Blah: Raid didn't want to do naxx 10, instead one person missed the Traitor King achieve so we went there. God I such a dumb achievement so dependant on RNG. No we didn't get it.
Happy: Been winning BGs in first tries for the past serveral days! Strand? Haven't lost one yet in days. Eye? Alliance been dominating! It's been.....amazing! (if you play BGs on cyclone you would understand my amazment. usually you have to Q for 5-7 BGs before you have a chance at winning one. It can be terrible.)
Hate: Yet another LK raid night canceled due to crappy attendance.
Happy: ICC 10 man night on scrubs. Ran with my resto druid, her gear is pretty decent, but I was still a little concerned about running her in there. Turned out not to be a problem and I walked away with some nice upgrades.
Hate: I have yet to see any good feral tanking gear drop out of ICC, it is getting beyond annoying.

Children's week was kinda hellish, Horde side.
I forgot about children's week till i entered a WSG. There was people with 18k hp arguing about who is going to carry the flag then runnng away from the group...dying...then calling everyone else scrubs. Best is when they tried to give me heck for not healing olo. Yeah no BGs for me for a few days after that.

I hopped on my wife's priest to do the achievement, switched her to a PVP disc spec and had a little fun. My second time through EoTS to attempt to get the flag, I go help take a tower, then watch the alliance zerg the flag, turn around and run it to the one tower they bothered to capture. Then I notice, no one is at the flag point, so I mount up and run down there, grab the flag and score a capture without anyone following me.
Other than the Alliance swarm fest in AB, it wasn't too bad to get the achievement. Going disc sure beat trying to do it as holy.
15 stacks of Tenacity is fun, but it'd be even better if it reduced CC duration as well. I wanna be a raid boss, and raid bosses don't get stunlocked.
Damn straight. Although it is still pretty fun. I had a rare WG with no tenacity yesterday and I was like, "o_O those rockets actually hurt".
What is nice about Tenacity, is getting zerged, and then escaping with a slither of health. At which point some plucky guy on the other side thinks "oh that guy is nearly dead", tries his luck, and he gets sent back to his GY.
However, it all breaks down, once the more numbered faction starts steamrolling their way towards you, because there is nothing you can do about it. You just end up locked down from 100%-0%, and it becomes hugelly unenjoyable.
The new mechanism they're going to introduce in WG, can't come soon enough. It's the only thing that's keeping me going in WG, knowing that while the other side are getting their lol's swarming all over us, and pushing us back to our gy, I'll have the last laugh when it becomes 1:1 and most of them will be sitting around in Dalaran in a queue.
Tenacity was nice.. untill they didn't give it to the vehicles you actually require to win with. I can stil 5-6 shot a catapult wrathing with my resto spec.
I feel bad for the Alliance on Feathermoon, because only a small handfull of us hoardies give a shit about Wintergrasp after Tuesday night alot of them won't be able to participate.

Disc priests are so OP in PvP. Anytime i come up against one I feel my pvp gear doesn't have enough PEW to kill one so I have to put on my raid gear (well any disc priest with about 22k+ HP) and hope there is no rogue near by!
Happy: Finally got those damn dps plate bracers from HPoS. Also got the tank chest from the last boss. No more need for that place unless I want to grind for hilt drop(hahahahahahaha)
Hope: my gear drops from H HoR.
Oh sweet Jesus: Was on the Zep from undercity to Howling fordj and I see a fellow ret pally. She had some glowing things about him, so I decided to inspect her. This person is trying to hit God or something.

Adding another class as my possibly #1 to be taken through Cata.

Also loved the classy name.
I think they are confused and thought they were a rogue or a fury warrior who get actual benefit from going over the hit cap in any meaningful manner.
