i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt just for not making the same spiderman game again. i know we all love swinging as spidey in new york but we've played that game like 6 times now.
i'm ready for something new, even if that first person fighting looks like a lame gimmick

Noone makes tehm recreate the boredom that is lifelike New York, they could quite easily go wild with it, you only need the major landmarks, other than that most people won't notice/care.

Spider-Man 2 was basically a game made with love, the rest are, like most of Activisions product now, a tired, whored out product.

You thought putting Ultimate Spider-Man into your game would bait me into buying it!

But I will settle for no less than Ultimate Spider-Man 2!

By the way, if anyone here hasn't seen Spectacular Spider-Man, you MUST track it down. Yes, I'm aware that everyone looks like a descendant of Bambi; it's easily the best depiction of Spidey outside the comics, period. The animation's fantastic, the stories and characters are deep, Spidey gets to fling out lots of great Spider-quips without slowing down the action, and everything feels like the absolute best of the Stan Lee-era comics--even when Venom shows up. Fantastic stuff; too bad it got canceled after two seasons due to network shuffling.

We are getting a Ultimate Spider-Man: The Cartoon, which is an allright consolation prize, but yeah, SPM was fucking amazing.

I'm at work, but someone post the Black Suit Spider-man vs. the Sinister Six fight. Amazing stuff, and that's how I want my Spider-man to fight in the games.

The ONLY problem with that clip is that, since Spidey's symbiote sleepwalking, you don't get any Spider-quips.

This video, well, has a few of them.

I'm disappointed that there's no Spider-Girl universe(well, MC2 as it's called). Also, the symbiote combat looks straight out of Web of Shadows, which wasn't that great. And we've just had so many not-good Spidey games that it's hard to get exited.

Saw the giantbomb video, and I have to congratulate Activision, because they managed to sell me on NOT buying this game.

I mean, when you have Spidey freaking strafing and WALKING SLOWLY down alleyways, it shows you have no idea what is the main appeal of playing as Spiderman.

It's a shame, because the graphics look nice, but everything else..eh.

Not to get all "Kotick is the devil" on the thread, but this was sort of in the cards from the get-go:
"Our Spider-Man games have sucked for the last five years," Kotick said. "They are bad games. They were poorly rated because they were bad games."

As for why they sucked: "We went away from what is Spider-Man," Kotick said. "It's about web-slinging. If you don't do web-slinging, what is the fantasy of Spider-Man?"
    lolActivision indeed.

I still remember laughing my ass off when Spiderman gets tranported into the 2099 universe and ends up fighting Vulture 2099. Let's just say that the 2099 knockoff learned the difference between a newbie Spiderman 2099 and a veteran superhero.

Everything Ive read says something like "Unlock the suit FROM THE BEGINNING" or something.

Leading me to believe that the codes are just giving you something sooner than normal, and everyone will have all 3 of the bonus costumes available in-game.

They did the same thing with the Wolverine game.

Are you serious? They been in a steady decline since USM, with a tiny bit upswing when web of shadows came out.

i don't get why ultimate spidey and web of shadows are so reviled? ultimate spidey was a fun game and despite having too much focus on venom i played it to the end. web of shadows i rented but it had the best combat and controls of any spiderman game yet. spiderman 2 i barely remember and i can't have aged well, so i don't understand everyone pining for a game where you couldn't even walk on the ground (am i remembering that right?)

and noir spiderman looks so cool i would probably buy a game set exclusively in that universe

No you're not remembering it right, Spider-Man 2 was the shit, you could go anywhere, it had the cross-city catapults, the challenge arena, piza delivery and a host of side stuff, it brought about the interactive rescue missions, a huge array of moves for both transport and combat, a bunch of villains and mini-villains and he could walk on the ground.

Just off the top of my head

Maximum Carnage (SNES), Two good Spider-Man platformer/beat em ups (PS1), The game that came out with the first movie, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Ultimate Spider-Man, Web of Shadows (Flippin Spidey zombie game!)

    Mostly steady increase in awesomeness...

with a few bumps along the way..Friend or Foe...

Spider-Man 3 was a definient drop in quality (and big increase in bugs) compared to 2.

...and while I agree that USM and WoS are much better than what general opinion has to say about them, they aren't quite as good as Spider-Man 2 was when it came out.
