Spoiler for those who haven't played the game, related to Blackjack's post above:
Eric, Karna, Tyrin, and Randolf are all some of the best characters in the game, stat and spell wise. Problem is you have to pick just one of them initially. Further spoiler:
You can later pick the rest up, but it might be hard to level them to catch up.
As for LP content progress, I took a bit of time to nudge everyone up to level 23 (22 in a couple cases, and 25 in Sollah's case) before proceeding beyond the next battle. Next update should be tonight or tomorrow morning. Contains a moment of absolute laffo.
You can later pick the rest up, but it might be hard to level them to catch up.
Its actually not too tough once you get them to the promotion point since they start out unpromoted they end up better overall and easier to level than characters you attain post promotion (like Jaro and Screech.)
Aside:
Rick is the second best knight. I usually make sure to grind him to 30+ and make sure he gets the pegasus wing if i take Karna.
Ed: for instance the only really good characters you get post promotion are sheela and frayja(to a lesser extent Lemon cause he gets Move of 7 with the Ground Axe). But that is because both have non-combat ways to level up above enemies.

I never liked Frayja, but only because of his ugly face. Looking back on things, I'd excuse his face for his awesome spells.

His ability to cast boost and aura 4 (at relatively low levels) is what allowed me to beat Zeon without losing a character (Slade and Peter were hitting for >100 damage) and actually beat the special after credit end battle on ouch.
Once he gets Aura 1 he is an indispensable member of the team imo.
Its a shame you never leveled up Kiwi, he's quite the beast if you managed to promoted him. I always loved me a fire breathing Godzilla monster who move's like a flayer.

If by 'beast' you mean 'character with terrible HP and pretty lousy defense considering the terrible HP who can't take a single spell and survive' then you're right. :P

I was wondering why you felt to level so much, then I got to the
Harpy pool
battle... forgot how how hard enemies begin to hit... Kazin's dead, and my weaker guys can barely touch the latest foes. Egressing for leveling purposes is a go.
Making use of the secret battle at all in this? I generally can't be bothered with it.

Yeah the game can be brutal if you don't stay on top of leveling, and my next two updates display that very fucking well. It's weird sorts of spikes where you can manage things well, and then it's like here's the battle that will kick your ass.
At the very least you have to show off the super special vs. all the demons one at the end of the game, right?
Of course. It'll be considered a "bonus" installment but I guess knowing it's coming is less of a bonus. I'm not gonna try to make it fit like in the story though. It's just going to be a thing on its own.

THAT NEVER HAPPENED, LET'S GO TO CREED'S INSTEAD.
This is a very non-thrilling battle. Although the forest limits some character movement, it's not as bad as the desert, and several characters move through forest just damn fine.
There's this little clusterfuck of enemies that hangs around each other, moving back and forth a couple steps at a time. They're the "hard" part of this fight.
Gotta start doing a bit of MP conservation. You'll see why.
I don't think there's anything too threatening out here guys. Just fan out and, y'know, kill.
Seriously, try not to get us killed there.
Finally, a chance to-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o Uh oh, new guy got stunned boss. Ha, if he was a true fighter, he'd smack that fish thing around!

Rent, I intend to return to Pokemans when the new generation is out. I had Diamond, but sold it to Gamestop years ago as there was nobody around to battle / trade with here in TX.

This battle is quite a bitch. Harpies are fairly strong, durable, and kind of hard to hit. Oh and they can fly. Plus there's High Priests to heal, Dark Madams to AoE, and the entire battlefield is narrow.
I forgot to mention, the harpies can poison. Status ailments are my friend!
I may have, uh, exaggerated that whole thing about Reynolds having better defense.
Pretty much right at the start, the surrounding harpies swoop in for the kill and there isn't much you can do to stop it.
They are not invincible! Attaaaaaaaaaack!
Mind if I act irresponsibly with my spells? I don't care, just kill things before WE die!

LewieP (Elric by standard game name) is our second fully-ranged character of the game. As an archer he can move around rather freely in most terrain types. The tradeoff is that he's not very durable or powerful, providing some not-outstanding support attacks from a distance.
