The last venue in B:RB Story Mode is outdoors, and it is also pretty iconic

Well, Beatles is also cartoony and the venue still looks like it's taking place inside, the lighting is weird

also it's the Beatles. Everyone remembers that. Hardly anyone remembers Woodstock '94

They remember the first one and the one with the rapes and riots. The others just kind of exist in a vacuum somewhere.

Apparently the Woodstock venue was not used because Harmonix does not like how daytime venues look in their engine, and this is why all of Rock Band's venues are at night or inside.

Was that the one with the mud throwing? That seems to be pretty iconic, in terms of Green Day history.

Yeah but if it looks like it's on a gigantic indoor set, people would have been pissed.

I'd rather HMX be honest about engine limitations than force through something they don't think will work well.

Or you know, they could improve their engine?

As much of a fan as I am of Greenday, I just can't see myself buying this game. The guitar part isn't going to be fun for me as I'm not a fan of alt strumming, and it seems sort of like a quick cash in. The thing that bugs me the most is that there's only three venues. What's up with that?

I'm really quite curious how Rock Band 3 is going to end up. Say what you will about GH and Activision, but I think that with every released, they have learned things that work and things that don't work. To the point that I think GH4 would actually be the best music game if it wasn't for you know...the music in it.

Sure, let's just throw out most of the engine and rewrite it! Easy to do.

No, not really. You have to write the engine in the first place with indoor and outdoor environments in mind. For example, the Halo 3 engine had to be forced into doing Blackout, a nighttime map, because the engine has special issues that had to be worked around to do nighttime. You can't use the special map graphics filters on Blackout due to this - the way the lightmap had to be set up broke them.

I imagine similiar issues exist with the Rock Band engine. It was set up for inside and nighttime because that's where most concerts take place.

There are already two Third Eye Blind songs in RBN. The third is still wending through approval apparently. You'd probably be better off searching the Creator's website forums for any details on progress.

Outdoor lighting has been an issue since the first Guitar Hero. At least they've always said they've never been particularly happy with doing them. And that they prefer nighttime lighting because then they can do more with lighting effects. Why would you want HMX to scale back all the cool shit they can do during a 'show'?

I think there's a new revolution of people actually admitting they like stuff and not "ironically". Just admitting you like something, even if it is cheesy (for example, I now like Lady Gaga and Paramore).

Ultimately, there's nothing wrong with Headphones On. It's not the greatest piece of music, but it doesn't have to be. And I don't think it's trying either, so points for that.

But compared to the Little Fish song? It's a milestone of pop culture. I certainly don't recoil in horror when Headphones On pops up in a Mystery set.

That Little Fish song has a pretty interesting drum part. Its ok.

Also I was really excited for "The Taste of Ink". I listened to that song a lot in high school, and my old band opened for the Used back when that song was getting big, so it was nostalgic.

I'm not being "that guy" and I usually dont complain too much about what HMX does (because there's usually nothing to complain about), but they either recived a demo of the track, an unfinished master (that hadn't been autotuned or tweaked), or they chose the weirdest vocal part ever to push to the front.

So glad I listened to the preview. The vocals sound absolutely nothing like the song I had been listening to for almost 10 years. Weird.

So, 1up has reported that GDRB would have 'no additional music downloads'.

This has caused much wailing and gnashing of teeth...
This is actually different. In this game we're taking a different approach to performances: We're building these crafted, linear sequences. One of the reasons we could do open-ended DLC for The Beatles is that it's all tiny clips, and we could just reconfigure them for different songs as needed -- and dreamscape backgrounds similarly had that. With this, we're really creating sculpted experiences for every single song; there's an animation that plays all the way through, pretty much. That's something that's not really practical to do open-ended. So we decided we were going to make DLC just about finishing 21st Century Breakdown, using the DLC that was already out. That created a great three-album game, and also let us give each of those [six DLC tracks] unique assets, more than we could easily pack into a DLC pack. Those songs have their own video-wall assets, their own [motion capture].

Shorter: 'We're acting pretty lame right now...'

Of course, this doesn't mean there can't or won't be future DLC from the band for the platform that is Rock Band, but immediate comparisons to The Beatles 'situation' popped up You Know Where. But then, it didn't help to directly reference B:RB in the statement...

Perhaps, but they also know what DLC will be 'available' for the game itself. So it's easier to create something like 'Play all of 21st Century Breakdown' or something.

So wait, just to make sure: All of Dookie and American Idiot are in Rock Band Green Day? Hmm. I was planning on giving it a pass, but at that rate I'd bite on it once I can snag it for $30 or so, since that's what I'd pay for two $15 albums.

Really, though, in my mind I might be just paying $30 for Dookie and getting everything else for free. I love that album.
