(PC version) So I'm trying to disable these four nuclear missiles and come to find out, after disabling the first one I cannot move to the others, I've been attempting to jump, stunt jump, grapple and ect... for hours and nothing, I've tried everything and got nowhere eff this game!
I spoilered that for you. Perhaps you would like to spoiler yours as well? Ruining story moments on this forum is frowned upon... you know.. cause it's silly goosish.
The only awkward part about flying in the game is the helicopters never quite fly straight... they're always kind of cock-eyed, no matter how you angle it, and it weirds me out.
After doing about 7-8 of the flying missions, I am a friggin daredevil with the Cessnas.
I really don't get why people are so angry about the flight controls in this game. I can spend hours just flying around in a jet up in the mountains, skimming the ground the entire time.
In fact, flying around is my favorite part of the game. Different strokes I suppose.

Yeah, flying around freely is awesome.
It's when they ask you to put a plane through a series of rings where the problems start.
I just wish I could fly under a bridge without crashing into the water/land without dying in a terrible explosion.
But that's really just a skill problem.

I love attaching planes to radio masts as i fly past and then watching them spin round, did it earlier as a NPC flew past my plane hit it, awesome.

The flight controls aren't unworkable once you get used to them. Hell, I've beaten the really hard races in the capital, so clearly it can be done. (Protip: You can let go of the throttle after takeoff and you can use the left stick to slow down when you need to make a tight turn). However, not being able to use rudder in a plane is like not being able to strafe when on foot. Could you still move around? Sure, but why the hell would they cripple it like that?
What it hurts the most is your ability to strafe ground targets in a plane. You can't make small adjustments to your aim in order to hit your target, you have to just spaz out and try to get lucky. See Battlefield 1943 for how to do it right.
Man, the races are so good in this. Doing Kicked to the Curb after that tuk-tuk one was so satisfying.
"Fuck you, scenery!"
The crappy tuk-tuk race is a lot more fun if you jack a nearby motorcycle instead. You can still fit through the alleys, but you also get to drive 3x as fast.

Yeah, I did that afterwards for a better time.
There's a couple of awesome boat races, too. One down in the delta that requires you to jump over a military base as part of the course.

You can use the right stick (look) to make small adjustments to your aim... you just can't make small adjustments to the direction you are flying.
So, I just started playing this the other day on the PSThrizzle, and holy shit this game is insane stupid fun.
I mean the voice acting is terrible, which is fine, because nobody plays this game for the engaging story. They play it for the gameplay. And oh lord the gameplay is fun.
Ok, I've been playing this on and off for around a week now, and I have questions now.
1. When I finish the main story, I assume I can keep playing and do the stuff I haven't done yet? EG. blow shit up, find collectables, do races and faction missions?
2. Do the races get marked on your map when you've done them for the first time?

1. Yup. They call it mercenary mode. It's the exact same thing, but instead of showing you how much chaos to unlock missions, it shows your total % complete. You just continue right along just like you didn't finish the game (no story missions).
2. Yup, they get a green checkmark next to them. It will let you repeat a race if you want.

Sigh, I need to work on planning ahead for destruction, because often when I take a car or plane and bailout in an attempt to crash into vulnerable targets, I'm left floating in the air going "Where's the earth-shattering kaboom?"

So I spent ages doing this god damn flying challenge out in the islands somewhere, got to like the third last checkpoint and accidentally got stuck in a dive I had no chance of pulling out of. I ejected about 6 feet away from the bridge my plane crashed into and headed down to the ground. Rather than waste another ten minutes redoing this stupidly hard race, I bought a K-22 right then and there and used it to get through the last two checkpoints.
I am picking up a 360 controller tonight for this game. I just need a USB-based one. I tried doing some flying in the super jet and ended up crashing simply because I had no precision control. KBM is the best way to aim and shoot normally, but it just fails to deliver in flight.
Besides, I was wanting a controller to use for flying in Bad Company 2, as well.

Yeah, I use a controller for this game. Don't even bother picking it up for use in BC2, it's not fully compatible. For some reason.

Does this mean that the game would be better on the 360 due to the controls? I am fully intending to buy this but I can't decide between PC or console I usually go with PC but I haven't bought a 360 game since like September.

Negative.
IMO, shooting people should only be done with keyboard and mouse. I think that holds true in this game. The only area it is weak is with flying in this game. For some reason, they don't give you mouse flight control.
It looks significantly better on the PC (I tried to demo on my PS3 and while it looked good, it looks better on the PC). Additionally, I enjoy the mods people are making as much as the vanilla game. I am always playing with mods on. When you just want to cause chaos and blow stuff up, infinite ammo removes the annoyance of ammo scarcity for more explosions (I love dropping a dozen C4 on an oilrig and blowing it all up from a boat!).
Also, late game, it gets to be insane, even on casual the number of helicopters and bad guys hunting you down! I turn on infinite health now so I can just roam and be like an action movie guy.
Basically, the openness of the PC means that you can have LOADS more fun.

The shooting controls are actually really tight with the 360 controller.

I noticed that myself, that the controls are pretty gppd. For me, I always prefer KBM for aiming and shooting than a joystick controller.
Some folks complain about 'floaty' mouse in the game, but that is a graphics issue. I turned off Vsync and optimized my settings removing the floaty mouse issue almost completely.

I hate to burst your bubble, but the flight controls are no better with a controller. It's the game, not your chosen input.
For everyone having trouble (or just hating) doing flying challenges in a plane, use the Agency Rowlinson (the mini chopper). I think it's at level 4 for me and it's fast as hell, agile, and comes complete with yaw!
I did one challenge last night where you had to weave up and over this bridge a bunch of times.. I couldn't imagine doing that in one of the planes.

I could never get my XBox controller to work in BC2. Installed the XBCD drivers and everything. BC2 just doesn't recognize any of the button presses or axis shifts. This is a known issue, apparently Dice just doesn't support gamepads on the PC.
It really drives me crazy how you can't look around while freefalling.
More body control would be excellent as well. Being able to turn around and fall backwards as you look up would be epic, as well as the ability to do flips.
Honestly, I always use 360Pad for driving/flying and kbam for shooting/running. Did that in GTAIV, SR2, Saboteur, Mercs2...
In JC2 the grappling is much better on KBAM, and I can fly planes pretty well on pad. I did learn how to control helicopters very well with KBAM though. Even the "flying crooked" thing I can control. It's awesome. I kick some real ass in chopper dogfights.
