Name that game a.k.a. If I knew what I was talking about why would I ask you?

Once a year I start up a thread and invite everyone to describe a game that they've played in the past and would like too again, but just can't remember enough about the game to dig it up on the internet.

Hopefully, someone reading the thread will remember some key thing you describe and point the way.

I have yet to find my particular game.

Rules are simple. Give all the details you can and help if you can.

My game:

I played this on the Atari ST. It was an RPG with a top down perspective. The world was large and open, and monsters just popped out and attacked you. Fighting consisted mainly of moving into the monster until it was dead.

The world opened up in three phases, you ran around a continent on foot, then got a ship allowing you to travel to another continent (though still able to be attacked on the sea) and finally a giant bird that let you go anywhere and avoid all combat.

It was a single player party, I don't remember anything in the way of leveling up, you got stronger but didn't have much control. The character art was a simple hooded figure, that was animated and changed direction in the way you were going.

The final dungeon sucked. Upon entering you took damage constantly until dead. To win, I stocked up on the most powerful healing item, called "bread of life" (try googling that for anything useful around Easter) and stuffed your face with them until you got to the center to fight the final baddy. Loaded with carbs, I finally won.

I loved this game. It was the first game that had a definate end that I ever beat, and indeed was one of the few games I've every bothered to beat.

Other details.

It isn't Ultima. Or any of the series. It isn't "Times of Lore" though the perspective is very similar. It's closer to what you see in a Japanese RPG around the time. Because it was on the Atari ST, and the ST had some of the best graphics of the time, posting similar pictures won't really help, as I can't really FIND similar pictures.

Good luck!

I'm building a real pirate ship. Really. Wanna help? Click here!
