I watched Bubble the other night, Steven Soderbergh's experiment in micro-budget production. Dirt cheap equipment, small town location, non-actors starring. Like he watched Primer and went, "If those no-name assholes can do it, I bet I can do it EVEN BETTER!"
Except that he couldn't. At all. I admire his experimental, keep-trying-new-stuff spirit, but good god almighty was that movie dogshit. I've seen dozens of student films that put it to shame. Swing and a miss, Soderbergh.
They're making a 24 movie, right? Now that the series is ending and all that. That show was insanely uneven, but I think we can all agree that Jack Bauer is a certifiable badass.
What I want to see happen with the movie is that they keep the real-time conceit, but limit it to sixty minutes of time. Cut out all the bullshit subplots that made the show so frequently interminable. Then have the dudes who wrote Crank 2 write it, and call the whole thing The Jack Bauer Power Hour.
It would be the greatest movie of all time.
