Firefox address bar question

So after using Firefox for a very long time, the address bar tends to clutter up with links. The only way to clean this all that I know is by clearing the browser history. But what I want to do is to limit the number of addresses stored in it when you click on the [v] button to the right of the address bar, beside the [>] button. Is there a way to do this?

Maybe there's some extension that does that?

If you won't find any then maybe you could ask at the mozillazine.org firefox forums.
