Yo, my peeps. I saw this ad on craigslist:

    http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/evg/1855953030.html

and i was like OMG I WANT TO DO IT. Like, I would be so excited to ... I dunno, experience PAX for free? and get paid? Yeah, it'd be a dream come true.

I'd just like to know if this is legit ... doesn't say PAX but september 3-5 are the dates for pax...thanks.

PA isn't hiring these women, so it's not likely anyone here will have the foggiest idea if this is legit or not.

I hope whoever is doing this has a clear understanding of PAX policy on booth babes or they'll end up with some pretty pissed off temp employees.

From the ad it's pretty apparent they are TOTALLY missing the point of the booth babe ban... ugh.

Eh, it doesn't state babes exactly... and "promote" could mean a lot. at least it seems to want some knowledge of gaming. i think the ban lets girls promote as long as they know stuff and can answer questions and are covered up decently, right?

Aren't they supposed to know about the game the company is promoting? Not just games in general?

If they are gamers then they can more easily learn about the game by actually playing it and knowing how to "talk shop" with company. More effective way of learning about it than a company giving them a fact sheet.

Things we’re going to formally message in our “booth babe” policy:
Rep needs to be trained/educated about the product (81%)
Anything that is considered “partial nudity” is banned (43%)
However, cosplayed characters are allowed to wear revealing outfits, assuming it is true to the source game (68%)
No messaging that specifically calls out body parts (47%)

Seems like that CG ad is sticking to the policy pretty well. The fact that they're asking for gamers suggests they'll need to know how to talk about games, or (hopefully) one game in particular. They're not asking for "booth babes," and there's no harm in hiring attractive promoters.

About that conversation that you had before about to buy or not to buy in advance tickets for PAX...well, I think that every 'con or whatever eventually grows too large. And tickets start to get get sold sooner and sooner.
Here in Spain we have collapsed online sign-ups for events. It took the servers days to recover :O

So yeah, people should start thinking seriously on buying their 3-day badges -soon-. Around March, perhaps? :P

I hate United because I'm over six foot and their coach seats just don't have room for my legs. Nobody really has coach seats that are designed for tall people, but United just seems to cram them in there. For shorter flights it's ok, but then one time I flew them from seattle to san francisco and then from san francisco to hawaii and by the time I got off the plane in Hawaii I could barely walk.

I've flown US Airways from Seattle to Las Vegas and no complaints and Continental from Seattle to Louisiana with no complaints. My usual choice when flying up and down the west coast though is Alaska Airlines, and when flying longer distances I usually prefer American Airlines.

Either way you're probably best off just going with whatever's cheapest and fits your schedule best.

Whoops ... just missed this ..booked myself on United because they had the best looking website between the three! (all three had same prices and more or less same timing ... ticket prices were increasing, so needed to book fast) Thanks anyways!

Um $40 for a cab? That seems high the last 2 years i rented full on town cars and they were only $40 most taxis to my knowledge only charge $27 to the air port. Also $100 for one night room share seems strangely high as well. To be honest going for 1 day don't take this wrong seems like a waste. Honestly doing byoc for 1 day is only a waste of time doing a lan with only 24hrs in Seattle is useless. I think the 2 day plan will give you much more time and ability to do stuff without getting an ulcer. If i am not prying too much any reason you are doing this on such a time frame?

Best pizza place, hands down. My friends and I have ordered pizza from them every single year since PAX moved to Seattle.

They deliver until 3 AM. Fucking amazing combos.

    My favorites:

Smoked Salmon: Smoked salmon, red onions, capers, ricotta, fresh tomatoes & mozzarella cheese over a creamy garlic sauce.

House Special: Pepperoni, Canadian bacon, mushrooms, onions, green peppers & fresh tomatoes. (but I have them replace the pepperoni with pineapple, myself)

Yeah .. i realized as much .. going for the 2 day plan. Booked all tickets/passes except for my hotel room.... and the short time frame is because I'm visiting the US with family and since we are there for only a short time, trying to cram a lot of things into this gap - so didnt want to take a lot of days for something which only i'm attending. Also trying to squeeze in a megadeth concert, which again only i'll be attending.

Is there a little better picture of what PAX is and how it functions as far as flow of events, places, people and timing of things? I have not been to a 'con" before but I am a vet when it comes to things like CES and other big trade shows. Any pointers for a noob?

Here's a couple videos of random PAX bits from last year:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfoN2p9ZSd8
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EO7fF9t9b4

As a quick overview...hmm...it's a pretty freeflowing/nonlinear thing. It's got the exhibition floor open most of the day all three days, showing off and letting people play future videogames from all systems. Some booths attract attention by giving away swag. The exhibition floor also has a few booths to buy stuff, ranging from official PAX merch to old vintage/collectible games and systems to boardgames to dice to tournament joysticks to whatever. And it's got the PAX 10, the ten indie games the Penny Arcade folks like the most.

Outside of the exhibition floor, the entire day there are various panels scheduled in a number of different "theaters", with industry pro's discussing topics like "How to make a game for under $10,000," "Pitch your game idea", "Wil Wheaton presents: THE AWESOME HOUR!!1", Game Design 101", "The Future of Gaming: You Don't Know What You're Going to Get", various talks with developers about the big games they are working on, there's generally a panel where the audience helps Tycho and Gabe create a strip, etc.

There are also tournaments going on most of the time, videogame, card and board game. And there's a console room where game consoles and games can be checked out at any time and you can get a bunch of people together to play. There are boardgame/collectible cardgame rooms where people can get together and play. The Omegathon has events throughought, with a few omeganauts competing against eachother with a wide variety of games.

At night there's the concerts, which are generally groups that play songs based on or inspired by videogames or geek culture.

And really, in the end PAX is just a huge gathering of folks with similar interests - you can start a conversation with anyone and be assured they'll be interested in what you have to say. Or you can hold up your DS and shout "Who wants to play Mario Kart?!" and find a bunch of competitors. You can hang out with folks and it's as if you've been hanging with them for years.

Thanks Dreamwriter! thats the type of info I was after! Is there a list of the 'theaters' and keynotes at each and concert times? Or is it still a bit early for that type of thing?
The schedule should become available in about 2-3 weeks time.
