A lot of us get chain maille lanyards from Knitted Steel. Although it's too late to order any of those for this PAX.

I was wondering if anyone has alternate badge-holding plans besides lanyards (not than lanyards aren't totally cool) - what you're using and where you get/how you make it.
I've seen people with armbands that have a window (I don't know where they get them) and also armbands with a clip for the badge to hang off of. I've also seen badges clipped on to baseball caps or put in the hatband of hats that have bands. I just use a lanyard myself.

I thought having your pass dangling around your neck on a lanyard was pretty mandatory. At least every year I went I had security staff bark at me if my pass wasn't immediately visible.

It must be immediately visible. That doesn't mean it has to be around your neck.

The way I see it, my pass is more likely to be immediately visible in the band of a hat or around my shoulder than it will be on a lanyard, because if it's on a lanyard, it'll be backwards half the damn time anyway.

A safety pin can help take care of that backwards problem pretty easily.

You'd think that but most of the time the Green Jackets are trained to look at chest level and not at your head.

I wore it in the band of a top hat one year. Constantly had to point up every time I walked past them.

The first thing I do every year is remove the lanyard and clip my badge to my clothing in a less conspicuous place. It takes all of 0.5 seconds to direct attention to it while approaching security checks. This works especially well if you are dressed...unusually, since security soon starts to recognize you and won't bother so much about badge visibility.

If you do dramatically change the positioning of your badge, try to catch a security person's eye and point to your badge before you even get to the checkpoint. You can normally get past without breaking stride.

The first thing I do is attach it to a chain maile lanyard made by liger.

Then again Im in a chair, so most enforcers dont bother me, except for the BYOC ones, but thats because they have to check EVERYONE for a BYOC pass.

Buy a carabiner with a keychain loop, attach the badge to the loop, and clip the 'biner to a belt loop. Works great for other things like work IDs :).

What's the word on Walkie Talkies at PAX? Can I bring a set of Motorola Talkabouts or will they interfere with security transmissions?

We don't really use walkies at PAX much anymore, and I believe any that we do use are GMRS frequencies, so you should be fine on any public use frequencies.

(Searched and got only find people saying NOT to bring a console)

Do the rooms in Sheraton allow you to hook up a 360 (Component, HDMI, VGA) to the tv? We'll be coming in Wednesday and leaving Tuesday so we'd like something to play on Wednesday/Monday night.

YES. You can. The tv's there have side inputs with Component/S-video and HDMI inputs. Though, like has been stated before, don't expect to spend too much time with it, unless you're hosting a party.

[edit] side note, consider bringing a universal remote, just in case. Some hotel rooms have special remotes that don't switch to auxiliary inputs.

I'm curious after the craziness of the pre-registration process, will there be Three-Day passes for sale elsewhere?

This is my first time being able to go to PAX but of course as soon as I wanted to go, all of the Passes were sold out D:

    In any case.

Will there be another way of purchasing passes? Such as at the door? I REALLY don't want to spend 250 per pass like some moron is trying to Sell on craigslist.

This is kind of a random question, I have been going to PAX since the beginning and every year, in the computer gaming area all the computers have a sweet set up. I really like the computer chairs they use (mesh backing). What I am asking is if anyone knows where they get them or maybe even a model number. I have looked everywhere for them but cannot find ones that feel as nice as those haha.

I know the question is strange but couldn’t think of anywhere else to look. If you wanna spice up the thread post your favorite piece of equipment that you found at PAX. I have always loved the keyboards and mouse setup they use as well. So smooth...

    Thanks

    Um... what?

The PC room just uses the standard conference chairs that are at the WSCTC. If you really want to find them just search for padded banquet chairs.

I am pretty sure they use real computer chairs but I could be wrong. I know the console gaming uses those banquet chairs.

The ones I remember have a mesh backing for sure and i believe but could be mistaken a mesh bottom. And armrests as well.

I could have sworn they were actual computer chairs. Guess I was crazy. Did a Google search for PAX Byoc and your right all the pics I found were those banquet chairs (maybe the ones I am thinking of are from an older PAX)

Well anyways thanks for the correction guys.

Nope, You are crazy :P PAX PC room has always used the standard convention center banquet chairs.

The ones in the meydenbauer were slightly better than the WSCTC ones but still similar.

They usually have a large amount of stock, but will eyeball you. I had success just asking if they had mediums, so perhaps it would work the other way?

For the most part, they do carry between M and XL, though the Merch booth has plenty of sizes up to 4XL!

I hadn't really thought about shirt sizes as far as swag (I haven't been much of a swag collector). Will I have to fight people for a limited number of smalls, or should I just give up, because they won't have anything in my size?

A couple booths will have smaller sizes (medium/sometimes small) but most of the time it's L/XL. If they only have one it often ends up being XL. I end up using a lot of them as painting shirts, I've heard of people using them as nightshirts.
