That's a big maybe. PAX East is still in its infancy. It will take a number of years before that beast is organic enough for them to add a third PAX to the roster. That said, I believe they expressed an interest in eventually doing a PAX in Europe, but that's a long way down the road.
There is so little in the way of expos here in the UK i think it would be a massive hit. I hope it is sooner rather than later but i understand it wont be for a good few years yet. Cheers Mr Fwacky.
There will not be tickets available at the door unless by some miracle of miracles they don't sell out. As it is, there are only passes left for friday and sunday, and fridays are already running low. If you can't order online, you're pretty much out of luck.
So, I cannot go a buy them "at the door" tomorrow? I go downtown all the time, and I'm in that area a lot (but not recently).
I guess I could call them, or I could go downtown and see for myself, but I just wanted to check what the forum said first.
Thanks for the help.
Also, when everyone comes to the city, PLEASE read signs clearly, if you see a stop sign with another sign under it saying "This lane only *with an arrow*", please don't stop if you're not in that lane. It gets extremly annoying :x.

Tomorrow? PAX passes aren't sold through ticketmaster or anything like that. The only way to get them is through the website.
Okay, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but the only stupid question is one unasked, right?
So, I'm the Editor-in-Chief of a video gaming website, (Crush! Frag! Destroy! </end gratuitous plug>), and we just got approved for our media passes on Friday. This is going to be the first convention we'll have covered on-location and even though we're going to be running with a skeleton crew (only three of us will be there) we're super excited about it.
What I wanted to ask was this. I assume that, like most conventions I've been to in the past, there's usually some sort of communal chillout/meeting space somewhere on site. I've never seen a map of the grounds for years past, so I have no idea specifically, though. If someone could clarify this, it would be most appreciated.
The reason I ask is that we'd like to record at least one podcast "live" from the show floor, but we didn't want to be dead set on doing so if there's no viable location to do so (or if it's against PAX policy for some reason). Noise isn't an issue, since background crowd static adds to the "live"-ness of it all, which is what we want. We just want to know if there'll be a table or corner somewhere where we can set up a laptop and a very small mixer and plug in a couple of hand-held mics for an hour or so. No complex boom set-ups or anything like that. Just a few people sitting around a table and talking... only while recording it.
If it's not viable, we'll only be slightly heartbroken. It would just be a lot more fun to do a show or two from the floor, rather than having to always do it in our hotel room after we've already had a few more drinks than we should have...

I know at east there were tables in the back of the expo hall, I dont know about prime though. However I have been informed that there is a media room on grounds. Also that idea is brilliant, I may consider doing it for thenakedgamer.com, or perhaps we can do a crossover... eh, EH? What do you think of that, Praxis?

Media room meaning...?
That being said, I am always up for potential cross-promotion for fellow indie sites, good sir. ;P We were already planning to try to see how many people we could rope in to guesting on the show as it was.
Actually, part of me has been considering trying to put a panel together for PAX East, but that's for down the road.
Also, I assume you meant thenakedgamerS.com (note the plural)? Because I didn't find anything sitting at the previous URL.
You guys will get a Media email saying what benefits media gets sometime before PAX.
Derp. As in the room for media - my bad. Sorry for the boneheaded moment. As I said - first time covering a con on-site, so I'm still groping my way through this blindly.

Any idea how far in advance those mails go out?
Usually 1-2 weeks before the show.
Also, any of the handheld lounges, tabletop freeplay areas, or food eating areas could work for podcasting, just don't block any hallway flow. If you arrive early Friday morning, you could walk some of the convention space (some is public space before show opening) to get an idea of the building layout. The show maps may also be posted online sometime before the show (I'm not sure if they will be).

PAX will always be held on the best weekend for PAX. Sometimes that will be a bad weekend for you; I'm sorry.

That sounds perfect. Thanks so much for the info, Jaberwocky! Yeah we certainly wouldn't want to block traffic flow in the halls -- just want a visible, populated area to record in. We're going to be arriving Thursday evening, but that all sounds perfectly viable. I just wish our hotel weren't such a hike away. Not looking forward to hauling everything around in a duffel bag all day. I suppose I could always leave it back in the room until time to record came - do the convention areas you mentioned close up at a certain time or not? Are there any locations (freeplay rooms, etc) that are open late/all night?
After that there are always people playing games in hotel lobbies and such though
You mentioned you were looking to have convention attendees on your podcasts as guests. I can assure you if you record one after 2AM in a lobby or such, you might not get as many people, but they will be very interesting people.
After that there are always people playing games in hotel lobbies and such though
Thanks - it's appreciated.
Also, Gunda - I doubt we'd be recording THAT late, though the idea is amusing. Was just curious to see what the actual hours were. By 2am I should be back in my hotel room, writing. Operative term: "should be"...
ok im 13 so i dont understand im able to play m 18+ or not im confused
It is up to each booth to enforce ESRB ratings, so I wouldn't necessarily count on it.
It's not like they're going to ID you but if you're obviously not 18 then they are liable to cry foul. For the Halo 3 ODST line they had a sign up saying you needed to be over 18, but I got in no problem (I was 16 then). I remember seeing people who looked a lot younger than me in line though.

Yeah, I've never seen anyone actually carded, but I have seen a lot of obvious kids turned away.
Your age won't cause any problems getting in to PAX itself.

yeah, the age thing was just referring to exhibitor booths with M rated games, and probably checking out M rated games from freeplay too.
It seems like if you don't act suspicious, you could get away with it. When I was 16-17, all I did was act cool about it (that being said, I looked 23 when I was 15).
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.
Apparently the panelists have been told their schedules. The Roosterteeth guys said on their podcast today that their panel will be on friday right after the penny arcade q&a. I think this means I'm going to have to line up at Benaroya Hall from the beginning of the day rather then going to the Exhibition hall for a couple hours since I don't think enough people will be leaving the keynote and the q&a in order to let me into the panel with all the other people that will want to go. :-(

Other than between the keynote and Q&A, all theaters will be cleared in between panels.

I just confirmed the following the Cheebus, the Main Theatre Manager:
Main Theatre will be cleared only when there's a technical setup before the next panel. When the schedule comes out, you'll see greater than 30 minutes of empty space before the panel starts if there is tech setup to do. The only times I'm currently sure this will happen are before the concerts (I haven't seen the final schedule, so there may be one or two other times over the weekend). If there is 30 or fewer minutes between Main Theatre events (this is the usual case), the room will not be cleared and it will work on a "as one person leaves, one person enters" system.
The satellite theatres (there are 5, one in Sheraton and four in WSCC) will usually clear the room between every event.
Update 2010-08-13: The schedule is now online.
Other than when it closes for the night, Main Theatre will only be cleared after the following events:
Friday: Rooster Teeth
Saturday: Penny Arcade Make a Strip!
Saturday: Star Wars Games - REVEALED!
Sunday: Why Should Gamers Care About Kinect?
Sunday: Penny Arcade Q&A #2

So, this might have been asked already, as I haven't been keeping up with this thread or anything, but what will be in the Tabletop area, besides current WotC products and board games? In other words, are there going to be people running non-D&D tabletop RPGs? (I see the Alternate Paper RPGs thread, which is the only thing I have to go by.)
Looked at the FAQ and it seems will-call information is still forthcoming. Does any one know if will-call is only open the days of the convention or is there a way to grab ordered tickets beforehand? I have two tickets coming in the mail, but I had a friend unexpectedly decide to come visit so I ordered a ticket for him a few days ago. Would be nice if we don't have to wait in line day of convention. We plan to show up between 11-12, so if we do have to wait hopefully the will-call line will have died down.

Will call is typically open on Thursday evening. I want to say something like 6-10pm, but I may be wrong. It should be something close to those hours at least.

I have plans to attend PAX this year, but when I was trying to sign up, it said they were sold out of both three-day and Saturday passes for PAX 2010.
Is it still possible for me to attend PAX on Saturday somehow, or are my plans ruined?
Sold out means sold out.
You are out of luck unless you can get a pass from someone on the forums or a scalper on craigslist or ebay.
Buy passes earlier next year.
There is always This Thread, but they go very fast when someone posts one up. You could always try Craigslist or Ebay also. Good Luck.
