Fucking shit I cannot get this game to stop losing packets like it's 1962

Like seriously nothing else running, not AIM, MSN or skype, nothing else active on my network. And it's still losing packets. And this is the only game this is happening with, MW2, L4D2 all rock solid.

Time to see if there's a BF BC2 network diagnostic tool that isn't a virus

EDIT found the problem, Realtek on board sound drivers can cause the game to behave as though you have heavy packet loss.

Did they even fucking test this piece of shit before throwing it out the door? What a fucking amateur hour shit show.

This game is getting impossible to play. I rubberband severely and I can't tolerate it anymore.
Gonna call my ISP on monday, which is Verizon DSL if anyone is interested, but is there anything else that I can do for the moment to improve things? This is ridiculous.

And no it's not my fucking sister's fault, all she does most of the time is surf the net but when I asked her about it today she wasn't even on her laptop. I had to replace my modem after my old one died about a month ago and it was slower but jesus christ I had no idea it was this slow.

The word on those fine forums (there isn't actual technical support for BCBF2, amazing) is that the bulk of the issues for rubberbanding unique to this game comes from your on-board sound. There's something funky about how this game runs, such that your network performance is linked somehow to your audio performance. Anyways, most people clear up their rubberbanding by disabling their on-board sound chips and running a PCI soundcard or a USB headset.

    I'm not joking.

Grenades damage for 110 over a 1 meter radius. The maximum range for grenades is 8 meters, and if the damage falloff is linear, then a loss of 15.7 damage will occur every meter after that. This means that the effective guaranteed kill range is 1.64 meters.

Engineers who have the Carl Gustav enjoy a 2.5m effective guaranteed kill range with the same range as the grenade. On face, this weapon seems superior.

However, a drawback of the Carl Gustav is that it must be used separate from the wielded weapon and almost ensures death if surprised during reload.

Alright, so let's postulate. Grenades take 7.50 seconds to reload from one ammo crate. With two ammo crates, the reload rate for grenades is halved to 3.75 seconds. The fuse of the grenade is 3.0 seconds, and the throw time is 0.8 seconds. This is the larger of the two numbers, so it is unprofitable to commit to more than 2 ammo packs in one place. If you throw grenades as fast as you collect them from the ammo crates, the rate of grenade explosion will be the greater of the two numbers, which is 3.8. Compare that to the 5.80 second reload rate of the CG.

Therefore, a single person can emit an 8 meter area of effect explosive every 3.8 seconds. The reason that this is a threat to the spammability of the Carl Gustav is twofold. First, every class has the capability to throw grenades. The amount of organization necessary to accumulate grenade throws is substantially less than forcing teammates to go engineer and concentrate fire on the same area. The location of the ammo boxes also lends to automatic teamwork. Only two assault classes are required to generate this mechanism, with the rest able to be varied classes in turn, only stopping once every three seconds to throw a grenade.

Second, throwing grenades does not detract from each class' ability to use their own weapons and tools. Should an explosion miss its intended target, all grenade users will by default have their main weapon out and ready.

The 3.8 second continuous explosion rate coupled with the ability of all members of the team to participate provided that only two players are working together makes repetitive grenade use ideal for explosive suppression.

What do you do with this information? The next time you see two ammo crates huddled together, you might wish to remember to throw a grenade every 4 seconds if you decide you want to spend some time in that area. If you're an assault, try establishing ammo crates in pairs separate from the present ammo site to expand your explosive suppression coverage.

This is really just a reminder to keep an eye out for dual ammo crates and ponder a little bit on all the opportunities these give you. Perhaps you'll come up with an even better strategy than Carl Gustav spam. At any rate, it'll be fun to watch the game evolve as people adopt newer, MORE EFFECTIVE strategies and adapt to them rather than stagnating in the same playstyle forever.

Man I'm actually enjoying using the rpg instead of the gustav. It seems like it should be the default and the gustav should be a niche, because you have to put more thought into where you point it to get kills (unless you're close up and blowing yourself and someone else up by panic clicking)

The AT4 is slowly becoming my favorite launcher. Can be dumb fired. Can be laser guided. Does great armor damage. And it messes up MCOM's like no ones buisness. Arming Mcoms is secondary if I got rockets available. Line up, dumb fire, reload, dumb fire reload, dumb fire (ad nausium). Usually I can get 3 - 5 off before a sniper realizes what happened. Find new angle and repeat. Been getting alot of MCOM destructions this way. Course if line of site permits I will always use a stationary AT gun to drop MCOMs :D

you can't go wrong with shotgun slugs. Looking at the statistics, the 870MCS may actually be superior to the neo, due to the equality of the slugs and the fact that the MCS takes less time to chamber the shot (even though it takes a longer time to reload each slug), and the MCS has more rounds.

I just "suicided" myself for n'th time trying to use the mortar - apparently if there is so much as a wisp of grass anywhere on my screen when I am trying to lock on to something then this is interpreted as me wanting to mortar the shit out of exactly where I am crouching.

    Shitty bloody aiming system ><

This is my favorite way to die. Call in the mortar, rage at someone for having magic X-ray vision because they managed to see me at the back of a bush, then get rewarded with an "Epic Fail" death screen. The best part is having nobody to blame but myself.

In other shrubbery-related news (for those who haven't figured this out yet), wookie suit plus smallish bushes equal tons of hidden fun. Put away the rifle and enjoy being effectively invisible. This is particularly great when you're on defense and the bases shift; just find a bush and hide. All it takes is just not moving a whole lot. Wait for a juicy moment, then mortar strike, motion sensor throw, and snipe until the enemy team gets guys respawning who can find you through the kill cam.

You'll almost certainly get killed, but nabbing a half-dozen unrezzed tickets plus wiping out things like attacking tanks is well worth the tradeoff. And if you're a decent shot and take a silenced rifle on a non-kill-cam server, well, have fun flanking all those dudes running up to the front who can't figure out where the hell you are.

Hardcore mode is so broke I can't believe they haven't patched it yet. The enemy got a helicopter and we couldn't move out of spawn, I literally did not move for 5 minutes from getting hard spawn camped. I would spawn in the same spot every time (not sure why) and I would die instantly to one guy. I saw two other people spawn on my death screen and die instantly.

Also they have to patch the helicopter, it is impossible to kill. I had my entire squad trying to take it down and we couldn't even hurt it. It is just too hard on the console. It moves faster than the tanks can turn and the turrets are too easy to take out.

Yeah I've been saying that for a while about helicopters only for everyone to tell me "Hurr just shoot them down it's so easy". Helicopters on the 360 are a total bastard to shoot down in any way and the number of brutal spawn rapes I've had from helicopters is becoming really annoying.

I have to admit I've never seen a Hardcore helicopter spawn rape though, that must be even more brutal than normal.
