He got me Halo2 when I was a sophomore in High School. Very fitting ending of an era.

51 on now currently. I'm leaving myself in a game of relic all day, infinite rocket slayer!
I tried getting into a game briefly, there's two dudes waiting in BTB, and two dudes in rumble pit. No one's talking, I think they're just idling there.
edit - fyre's in a custom game too but he closed it off so I can't join that one to idle.

Wow, I burnt myself out on the 14th but to see some of you lot still playing is amazing. Microsoft cant get rid of you :P
I got this image of there being 16 or fewer people on, we all collect in a custom game or something, and collectively decide that we'll play one last game of CTF classic on Coagulation, and then all simultaneously shut off our xbox.
Because I have a feeling Bungie isn't going to hit the power button until there's no one left signed in.
There's three remaining TBK on. me, FyreWulff, and X Equals Loser.
Noooooo! I couldn't check how many games I had played last night, so I was just playing until I got bored. I looked this morning and I have 78 games logged.
Sad face.

Anyway, sorry I missed out on a few more games yesterday, but I ended even at 850 games, and I took 1st place in my last game. I can live with that result.
I got me a launch oxbox running Halo 2, nothing can kill it. When nuclear war takes place and all of us are dead, there's gonna be two things left: roaches, and oxboxes. At least those roaches will have some fun games to play, too bad they'll have to use system link for multiplayer.
I suspect there's still over a hundred people on, the bungie.net counter only seems to tally people who are actually playing games.
Probably going to take most of the weekend for this thing to die, it's really just a question of how stable consoles and internet connections are.
At which point the last man standing raises his hands triumphantly...and red rings.
Eh, I wouldn't keep my PS3 on for more than 48 hours. Mostly because it would set my furniture on fire. Not sure what would happen to the console itself.
That being said, Bungie really should give the last person (or last five or whatever) something for their sheer unwillingness to give up and lack of other interests. Free copies of Reach or something...
I have a weird dream that the last man decides to just load up a custom map and stay in it, forver designating that XBox to never be touched, and left on forever.
And the story of one man, existing in one map out in the servers will spread and spread.
And years from now, when someone figures out how to get back online, and get through the Authorization wall, they make their way into that one map, somehow.
"Hello...?"
"....I've been waiting."

Not if people are using their beefy Xbox originals.
These past few days have done a good job reminding me how awesome the original xbox is. Bulletproof hardware, and the controllers (I use S style, not dukes) feel a lot better than the 360 controllers. The little bumps on the bottom that house the triggers chafe on my middle fingers after a couple hours, which is a little annoying, but the palm rests feel better.
Plus, I still like the green dashboard. 360 needs a retro dashboard theme, I think.

This is like "The Frogger" episode of Seinfeld or something. Running the poor thing off of a jury-rigged battery out of an unhealthy hunger of maintaining a relic of the past.
But what happens if the power goes off? Wouldn't you rather go out on your own volition rather than be kicked off, Fyre?
Well, you'd need the following, off the top of my head:
1) Supplementary power provided by, say, a gasoline generator.
2) Battery Backup
3) After-market cooling solution for the oXbox console (or whichever)
4) Might want to throw in some redundant consoles in there too. And some sort of switchboard thingy...yeah, maybe not.
How might one pay for all of this? One word: sponsorships. I've got APC, Toyota, Cooler Master all on the phone right now.
It's too late to be setting that up, because in order to put the xbox on a battery backup, you'd have to shut it off to move the plug around.
The real downside, from my perspective, is that staying online hogs up my gamertag. I can't try the skate demo, can't stream netflix, can't really do much of anything until I finally get booted.
The interesting value on the bungie stats page is the games played in the last 24 hours.
It's currently at 10,465, and seems to go down by 100 every minute. That means at this time yesterday, there were enough people on to complete 100 games per minute. That seems like an awful lot of Halo at one time, for a population that was in the ~3000 range.

This sounds awesome.
So, basically this evolves into the sort of urban legend of "Find the way to connect to the server....and seven seconds later, you die?".

There is a battery backup that provides power directly through the outlet. You cut the power lines and it keeps running. Law enforcement officers use it to keep confiscated systems running during transport when necessary.

Today? It just feels like a marathon run from base to base.
But I'd play it again just because it exemplifies what Halo 2 is.
Still, awesome that there are some holdouts still.

Oh, they have confirmed the Infection gametype for Reach right?
If Infection is in, and the zombies DON'T have Sprint, I will be disappointed.
So, basically this evolves into the sort of urban legend of "Find the way to connect to the server....and seven seconds later, you die?".
Geeze. Harsh.
No magic. Just unadulterated horror.
