Installing Fallout 1 and 2 on XP

Hey, so I just got the disks for Fallout 1 and 2 and neither of them install on my XP machine. The fallout 1 disk tells me "incompatible operating system", and Fallout 2 just freezes and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete it (it's non responsive when I do that). Anyone know how to let me play the games I hear are amazing RPGs? Thanks.

edit: And yes I already tried making ISOs of them and mounting them.

    Old fallout thread

I never had any problem. Seems some people with xp can install it fine (me) and others simply cannot (you). I am unsure of the problem causing this.

Have you run them in Win 95/98 compatability mode? It's how I get them to work.

Right click on the .exe file and click properties.

I don't even have the exe though, because I can't install.

edit: well I guess i'll try that complicated link.

Put the cd in, explore it, find the installer, right click, properties, compatability tab etc.

That's odd, I don't remember having to do anything to get it to work.

There should be a setup.exe on the CD you can try it on. I doubt it'll work though, and you'll most likely have to do what I previously linked to.

Forgive me if this is against the rules but I should point out that if all else fails, you have already purchased a copy of fallout 1 and 2 so if you can't get the old install to work......................

The re-release pack of Fallout 1 and 2 + tactics works fine on XP.

I don't doubt it. I have the original releases and, I'm guessing, due to some magic mixture of XP Pro and SP2 the installer doesn't work for me, even with compatibility mode. I had to do what the NMA people did.

    Woh that's complicated.

If copying files from a CD and editing four lines of an .ini file is too complicated for you, you shouldn't be playing PC games.
