How much Internet culture do you see "IRL"?

bluefoxicybluefoxicy Registered User regular
edited April 2010 in Social Entropy++
The largest local newspaper here has a secondary "tabloid" style newspaper that's published aiming at "younger readers" (read: idiots). It even has a section called "Bang" about sex and relationships.

The newspaper itself is titled "b", in lower case.

I guess they were thinking "/b/"?

I'm also right down the street from something called Otakon but that's less "internet culture" and more "vanilla anime convention filled with furries these days." My college does, however, actually have an active and locatable concentration of furries; I would be unsurprised if it became an official function of the college. Apparently someone in my college Japanese class was heading to a group meet and ... oh. A group of furries.

At MAGFest, we tried going on real name basis... that lasted 5 minutes, then everyone dropped back to IRC handles. We don't use real names; that guy is still called DragonTamer IRL. "BRB" is also a valid expression these days; and apparently we're allowed to reference "IRL" when actually talking IRL now....

Seriously, how much internet culture blatantly leaks into real life now?

People call me Wood Man, 'cause I always got wood.

I have a friend who quotes tvtropes a lot when he speaks. He uses phrases that appear on the site a lot, and uses pages to describe people like he'd call a girl a "Tsundere" and say stuff like "It got worse..."

    A LOT

Also he used to laugh like this "Hahahaha ell-oo-ell ell-oo-ell."
