So I put Gears 2 in to play with a friend the other night, (We had begun playing it again because 3 was coming so what the hell right?) and we had been playing for a good month or so since this other night. So what happens randomly is I get an update for some reason for the game. Then the game loads and gets to the title screen and then freezes when I choose Multiplayer. Load it back up. Freezes at press start screen. Load it back up. Same thing. Needless to say I tried a bunch of shit and nothing worked. What the hell is going on with my Gears?
It isn't the disc. That's perfectly fine. Can use other profiles to play it. Just once mine is selected it will freeze the game. Have deleted the cache. Did not work. I just don't know why this randomly happened to me when I had been playing it fine for a month now. And now I literally can't play the game at all. Other Profiles do work perfectly fine. It's just my profile.
Here is more info on the issue: http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=740608
TL;DR Epic sucks at programing and there's a glitchinvolving splitscreen that can cause your profile to get borked. The only way to fix it is to reset it as far as I know.
I really hope they don't have these kinds of issues in the third game. Gears of War 2 is pretty much the only thing I used my gold live account for (other than the occassional xbox live deal). In fact, I pay for two gold accounts just so that my brother can come over and play co-op horde on live Friday nights (in what is now referred to as "Gears and Beers" nights).
A few months ago, one of the profiles got borked (I think it's the alt) and the screen freezes up when we try to play co-op anything. On top of that, my profile level seems to be stuck at 66. I've only ever played horde, but these days when I play a game I get no exp for it. I don't really have the patience to try to fix it to be honest, which is too bad because I fucking love this game. And by this game, I mean horde mode primarily
That being said, if they can fix these little things I think this game will keep me playing for a long time. I'll probably get the pass day 1. I can't believe this game was originally supposed to come out in March or April....the wait is killing me!
I'm guessing most of the issues stem from the fact that the leveling system was added in a title update after the fact rather than having been there at launch. I imagine one of their priorities was to make sure the leveling system in Gears3 works at launch without a hitch.
Yeah, it shouldn't. Though I kinda wanted to be Dom I'll be home in about 6.5 hours though.
EDIT: Epic confirmed the Season Pass is not a limited time offer. So if you want to wait until all the DLC has been released before you nab it, you can.
If that's the case, I'm going to wait out until after Christmas to get it. After all, the first map pack won't come out until around that time anyway. I'd at least like to see the first few before I grab it, so this works out for me.
I love how you can't delete posts in Vanilla and there's no double-post detection.
We're eight hours apart, so it may have to be the weekend so you can jump on in the morning while it's still early evening for me? It'll probably take us a few days to do, partly because my PC hates Gears and partly because there's no split-difficulty in 1.

I was kind of on the fence about playing Gears 3 after the second game. I haven't been a big fan of Gears multi, and the campaign in the second game wasn't as fun to me. Then I got a good look at the changes to horde mode, and I think I'm back in. My big problem with two, that I hope doesn't repeat in three, are the parts of the game that put you on rails or the back of some creature.
Hey peoples. I'm anxious for Gears to finally be released. It's frustrating that the game was supposed to be out this spring, but the beta was a nice teaser to keep me pumped through the summer. Anywho, I'd be game for playin Gears 3 with some of you near the end of the month.
Honestly, it really sounds like being delayed was the best thing that could have happened for Gears. Getting delayed allowed for a beta and dedicated servers, plus god only knows how much additional polish they were able to add.
I wish Gears2 could have had an extra six months development with a beta. It would have been a much better game for it.

I wonder if that campaign DLC will be a deleted scene, a coda/epilogue or "what if?" scenario.

Cause it's hotter on Vectes than it was on the mainland. Plus it's the Summer now, Gears 1 was in the Fall, 2 was in Winter.
Also, on the Dust To Dust trailer? Holy shit. Holy shit. I get it now. That was so god damn subtle, I didn't notice the first time around.
Spoilers for the other fools who didn't get it:
it goes through Gears 1, 2 and 3. Marcus starts off in his Gears 1 armor, throws a grenade, he's in Gears 2. General RAAM is visible at one point, I'm sure it's full of other cool stuff like that. You could interpret the grenade detonation as representing the Lightmass Bomb, and the flood that comes halfway being the sinking of Jacinto.
OK yeah. I now appreciate Dust To Dust a whole lot more.
Hey folks, I haven't been too active in this thread (which is a bummer, as I'm looking forward to this game with a fervor that borders on ridiculous), but I can't wait to shoot mans with everyone come September 20th. I came across this article today, on Grantland of all places, about the the design of GoW3. A pretty interesting read, and a little different than the usual preview articles I've come across:

Why the fuck is this on Grantland? Simmons is a sports guy ... Guess he is expanding his audience?
They'll throw a curveball on there every now and again. This Tom Bissell guy (not that familiar with him) writes about games every month or so for them; his article on L.A. Noire was similarly interesting.
Scottsman, I think we friended each other awhile back (probably when GoW2 came out) but haven't played much together. If I see you playing 2 this weekend, I might hit you up for an invite. Fair warning-

I didn't see the LA noire article , so this one kinda caught me by surprise.
I don't have an amazing gaming setup by any means (just picked up an HDTV last year) and I lack a surround sound system. So, the sound output for my games goes through my HDTVs built-in speakers. I don't notice it in other games, but with Gears of War games some sounds can make the speakers crackle pretty badly. They don't even have to be loud sounds. This does not happen with CoD games.
The reason for saying all of that was because I was thinking of picking up a Turtle Beach XL1 headset in preparation for Gears 3. Does anyone have any experience with this headset, or any other Turtle Beach headsets? Is it impossible to hear most sounds from outside the game? What I mean is, I have a baby that I would like to be able to hear if she wakes up and is making noise on the monitor. Do these types of headsets make that impossible, or do I just need to keep the sound down?
I got some Turtle Beach ones, you're pretty isolated sound-wise. I don't use mine anymore and I play loud enough in the basement and use a monitor too. Ours is one that lights up though so you can see when there is noise present.
yeah i've had that sound problem, it stinks. i upgraded to wireless turtle beach and they work great but yeah you can't hear outside noise very well even with the volume turned down. allforce's light up baby monitor is a great solution though.
Thanks guys. Our monitor does have lights on it too. I guess the solution would be to get the headset to get rid of the crackling from the TV and put the monitor by the TV so I can pickup any lights.

Add me as a friend though so we can see when each other is online.
Question: can I do part of the requirements offline (win matchs on specific maps) and online (hit level X)?
Although to be honest, this one is actually pretty well on tone with the game.
Totally, set the mood perfectly.
Also Valleo - Gears and Beers is what my crew call it too, heh.
Haha. Gears and Beers here too.
I still have the Rendezvous trailer on my Xbox hard drive. I absolutely love that one.
I suppose it isn't the most creative name in the world. Who would have guessed Gears fans were also beers fans?
Maybe Epic is sending us subliminal messages.
GT is Inkdizz. Less than a month guys!

I am looking forward to the music for gears 3. The other two games had some pretty great pieces.
