Buying a Vacuum

Pretty straightforward, I'm looking to buy a small vacuum for my 1 bedroom apartment (living room and bedroom have carpet, kitchen and bathroom obviously not). There's a Canadian Tire and a Sears attached to my place of work, and in brief perusal, I'm looking at the Dirt Devil Vibe.

Does anyone have any experiences with this vacuum? The reviews are good, the price is quite affordable (I'm aiming around $100, definitely can't justify spending over half a grand like some of these require), and while the bedroom could use a cleaning, it's more for the living room, as it's a common area that company sees now and then. As such, it's not like I need a giant industrial vac to cover massive areas, just something that'll pick up stray lint and whatnot once a week or so.

    Looks like a decent vacuum.

Stay away from bagged vacuum unless you're a masochist. They're less dirty, and hold more, but god damn are they ever a pain to replace the bags/find the bags. You don't have pets right forar?

I typically use Consumer Reports to check for these type of things. I think you can buy a one month digital subscription for pretty cheap. I picked my last vacuum this way, 5 years ago, and it still works great.

Amazon sells both the bags and the belts for my vacuum so I just order from them when I get low, and they arrive within a week and cost almost nothing.

Correct. My ex-girlfriend who lived with me for most of last year had a cat (and we did vacuum the place during that time) so the first thorough cleaning might pick up some hair, but beyond that it's just me.

And duly noted on Consumer Reports. I've been a fan of them for ages, but never got around to a subscription of my own. Something to ponder, for sure.

You should be fine though. The only time when you really need to start considering high end vacuums is with pets in general. Any standard one off the shelf of sears or target (read: anywhere but walmart) will be good for you.
