Golemagg you pretty much need to be Prot on. And even then, depending on gear level, you'll probably have to DS once or twice to let the stacking debuff expire or to keep up with the enrage damage at the end.
Gehennas I also killed using Prot, and lots of shadow resist gear. Had to use Sacred Shield on every cooldown. Get as low as possibe, DS once to clear the curse and heal back up to full, get as low as possible a second time then use a Purification Potion to clear the curse a second time and Lay on Hands immediately without giving him time to reapply it, and hope DS is up for a second time once more at the end of the fight.
Majordomo and Ragnaros I both beat using Ret. Majordomos adds aren't ??, they're level 62 elites. Shrug them off and kill them one at a time. For Ragnaros, Sacred Shield is vital again, as is knowing exactly where to stand. You'll get punted, but you'll land in deep enough lava that you won't take fall damage and can hop back out of it towards him. You'll take damage, sure, but it's not lethal and it's a straight-line hop back to him.
I've cleared MC for awhile now as just ret with mix of 251/264 items. its important to keep sacred shield up and using fol when needed.
Golemagg - the way I did it is, slowly burn him with seal of light up, and making sure to keep a good amount of mana. When debuff is too high, switch to add and not aoe and let the debuff drop off. When its close to 35%, switch to Corruption seal and burn him fast because he enrages.
Gehennas - just clear trash, use seal of command kill of trash, and just keep kiting back and forth, and using fol and divine storm. don't stand on his rain of fire, it deals a lot of damage. you can bubble to reset the debuff, but usually i don't even have trouble with it.
Majordomo - is extremely easy, just seal of command, go after healers first.
Ragnaros - i've never done MC in vanilla, so it took me awhile to find right spot, so that when popped up you don't die. thats the only thing that will kill you is taking a huge fall damage and runnin back to him and dying.
btw I use the divine storm glyph for extra healing since i'm at expertise cap and had an extra glyph spot.
I tried all of those as Ret, but my paladin stopped gearing up at an Ulduar-25 level so I probably just lacked firepower for those Golemass and Gehennas strategies. Prot just seemed easier and less likely to wipe.

So, I'll be hitting 80 fairly soon-ish and was wondering if anybody had tips on what to work on first. I'm currently 77, and in my tanking set I'm fairly close to the heroic defense cap anyway (it's supposed to be 535 right, I'm sitting just 520, but have a couple levels of skill to pick up still). I've crafted the full savage saronite set so I could DPS to get started while I pick up other set pieces, and I've got all the tempered saronite/tempered titansteel/ daunting pieces for once I hit 78 and then 80. I figure I mostly need to work on supplementing my HP with gems and find some good expertise pieces to help my threat gen, but any recommendations on who I should start working on rep for at first and what non-heroic instances I should be running for the time being would be great.

Argent Crusade rep will give you the head enchant and Sons of Hodir will give you the shoulder enchants you need. So I would work those up first. You really wont need any gear from the rep vendors as you can get all the tanking gear you need from the crafted items you already have, Triumph/Frost Tokens and the ICC5 mans. Once you get 80 just look on wowhead or get Atlas Loot and see the drops from the ICC 5 mans on normal and heroic. Then just chain run those until you have the gear you need and insta-queue for heroics to get badges. Gearing a tank is actually the easiest thing to do.
I think a page or two back someone posted on what first priority items should be so just search back for that list. But the Triumph badges will get you the bulk of your gear, you will just need to get the offset pieces from the 5 mans.

Hitting defense cap isn't too bad, but one thing to keep in mind is that the 15 skill points you'll gain from 77 to 80 will be more or less offset by the increase in defense rating required per point of defense, so hopefully you've got a good 70 or 80 defense rating you can pick up in the gear you'll get by 80.

Yeah, definitely, I have 4 or 5 upgrades that I can't wear until 78, and a I think 3 more for 80. I'm also assuming there are going to be fairly easy upgrades to my weapon since I'm using the axe from the ragemane's flipper quest, then enchants and gems and whatnot. I ran HoL the other night since it has a few pieces I wanna pick up but I felt a little bad since my DPS was definitely not fantastic. I think mostly cause the mobs are like, 4 levels over me and my ret gear is mostly for leveling and has a lot more focus on crit than hit since I'm usually fighting mobs on level when I quest.
EDIT: I also don't have any tanking trinkets and my back is some crappy level 74 one with dodge instead of defense since I've only seen the defense cape out of VH drop once and I didn't win it

also ToC normal and heroic. Great trinket out of normal, great weapon out of heroic. a weapon that you will replace in PoS but a weapon nonetheless

ToC regular for Black Heart, and AN heroic for Essence of Gossamer. Frost emblem trinket is also really good for one of your first frost emblem purchases.
Especially if you'll be tanking, wich it sounds you're already plenty capable of.

There's also a tanking trinket in regular HoL: http://www.wowhead.com/item=36993 Big chunk of defense rating, that helps a lot until you get level 80 equipment.

Here's a linky. I use that to browse around looking for the next upgrade to focus on. Hope it helps. (I didn't put any gear in there that you can buy with Frost Emblems since you're just starting out).

Well, my thing is I've never had a tank other than my bear druid- and even then only here and there, in instances. So I figure I should spend the leveling experience tanking and learning as I go.
Not really worried about how fast I grind.
Anyone have a link to the basic AOE prot grind spec?
Just go in ret to Seal of Command picking up anything that looks good (parry quicker judgements) to get to SoC, then go down Prot and get tanking talents. For leveling ae tank, and tanking leveling instances you'll want SoC, it will make life way easier.

With SoC and judgments of the wise you shouldn't have any trouble keeping up with 3 mobs and almost never running out of mana. As far as I've seen tanking really isn't that different from the ret experience, you just pretty much replace divine storm with hotr and replace crusader strike with your shield slammy thing. I wouldn't switch to prot till you have divine plea because of mana issues, and I also just liked questing instead of instancing till I got to my late 60s anyway.
I tanked every instance up to Underbog as ret, with a 1h/shield. Those BC instances started to get tougher, just cause I didn't have the HP/avoidance i would have had I been in a prot spec and had a better tanking set.
Actually that's a lie.. I never tanked Upper or Lower Spire, nor Scholomance. They never came up in the random finder, and I only ever remember tanking that first wing of Dire Maul.

I honestly believe Ret got better because Quest Exp was boosted. Also, Ret has even less downtime than Prot so...
Some of it is quest XP increases, but Ret got better because of all the Ret changes. Prot grinding is slow business and really only viable in some areas, Ret is quick and fun and you can do it anywhere. Open with Hand of reckoning(I believe that's what the taunt is) and judge and any non-elite is mostly dead before it gets to you. Throw in instant cast exorcisms to become a death machine. I recently leveled a shadow priest with my friend who is ret and I felt really useless, never getting a spirit tap.
Get Seal of Command and the mana restoring Glyph of Seal of Command to tank instances while leveling, you wont have to worry about mana. Oh and those humanoids that run when near death? Since they aren't targeting you, the single target taunt does damage to them.

Well, there's the looking for raid section of the Dungeon Finder, but nobody uses it because nobody uses it.
Guardian of Ancient Kings model!
I guess so, I just found it linked on the mmo champ forums.
At the moment its:
Ret: Shadowmourne proc, stacking str buff then meteor dmg explosion at the end.
Prot: 60% Shield wall.
Holy: Double healing with a 10% aoe splash on the target like the holy light glyph.
Where did you get this info? I thought you couldn't access it since it's learned at 85.

Oh, didn't know that since I don't see it in MMO Champ's Paladin page. Lack of beta over here.
Is AOE prot grinding still viable? I'm thinking it still starts around 20-ish when you get the AOE spell under your feet...
You can even tank dungeons as ret.
Not really worried about how fast I grind.

Of course, if you plan to tank as Ret, get a shield.
