So apparently this is going to be playable at PAX East.
Anyone going? And if so... are you bringing a damn camera?
yes i am, and i've got my android handy to record some videos and upload them from the show. i'll post them here as soon as i get them up and have a breather at PAX.
i can also take some video with my HD camera but it takes tons of space up so that's not likely
That footage is old. The vids linked in the link from the SD forums are old too. I can' wait for new footage. I've seen all of the older footage many times.
You can customize all sorts of stuff. There is something I have never heard of before-- you can adjust the sensitivity of the sticks in a neat way-- you can have it so there sensitivity is low, but really high when you push the stick to the limit.
And he talks about how leans works-- when you go into iron sights, the d-pad changes to control lean. You can't throw something while you are aiming down sights. That makes sense.

Sticks?
D-Pad?
What strange language is this?
I kid, I kid. I just hope that they are giving the PC side the same treatment.
Yeah, considering during that interview he was talking about the customisability of Quake Wars as being the impetus for bringing customisation to the consoles, I don't doubt that they've got plenty of relevant options.
Paul Wedgewood and his crew really do give a lot of thought into the kind of dynamics that you just never hear other devs discuss. When he says something like "We don't want something like Smart bound to pressing the thumbstick down, because applying that pressure causes you to lose some of the lateral movement dexterity in your thumb and we want that to be smooth.", that's pretty awesome. I mean it comes into other stuff too, the weapon sounds being different when aiming down sights. Or being able to choose when you revive. Or XP bonuses for changing to a needed class. It's like dozens of little touches where other devs don't really stop to think about them.
Spinning off from that, I have to say that I appreciate that they set this game around guys who are fit and healthy and know parkour, freely navigating the environment and being able to stay on their feet at all times. They clearly have a good sense of balance and motion, even when lugging around huge weapons. Basically what I'm saying is:
They're balanced for lean. :P

Hey now it's a specialised skill! Most military personnel that try leaning simply fall over, that's dangerous in a combat zone. Additionally it can be a cause of severe chronic back issues to the less well trained.
On a less joking note, it means that you can peak around cover without having the now almost obligatory "suction-cup your back to the wall" button, which then pulls the view out three feet and allows you see and fire blindly around corners at no risk.
So apparently this is going to be playable at PAX East.

Take notes, then use them in the Brocast! or better record yourself with a spoken word recorder as you play.
As someone is is probably going to be a team medic, I am horrified to see you manly men run in and die out of my reach.
As long as you keep tossing those syringes, ill keep on running in. Objectives dont complete themselves. It takes balls of steel and guns of thunder to charge in and keep that objective alive.
This isnt a game for the timid. If you dont have the guts to jump over a wall, run across a platform, jump down and slide nuts first into your opponent and KILL HIS DICK, you arent going to complete that objective.

You're going PC right? Any chance you go 360?
I like the cut of your jib, we could go places you and I. Entire teams would shake and cower at the mere mention of our gamertags!

Sorry man. The 360 is a whore that got paid 3 times too many. In other words, the bitch died on me 3 times.
This old gal ( My Ghostbusters rig[1] ) has been good to me. Im going to have to stick with PC on this one. I wish i could do 360, but its just not in the cards.
[1] It has a custom printed Ghostbusters Decal on a matte black tower. No frills, just pure air cooling, no fancy controls, no fancy lights, no open windows. The case set me back 25 dollars and came with the fans. Its not a showpiece its a work horse. Especially with the damn GTX 460 i got for christmas.
Yea man, last year was a bad year for me and games. Lost a very expensive Steam account due to Paypal shenanigans, had my launch 360 die for the last time, had my DS Lite die on me ( had to repair it myself ).
It was not a lucky year for me.
So ill be happy just to be able to play Brink on pc. Especially as it was 10 dollars cheaper that way.

I'm very hopeful about Brink, because the dev team sounds so brilliant, so SMART. Lots of little things clicking together. Brink could be the most intuitive shooter ever. On the other hand, things rarely sound bad in development. People have actually played Brink at cons and at hands-on previews and those people are still excited about it. Some of them are very excited. That keeps my hopes high.
I don't really have the option of getting Brink on another console. I guess I could buy it for xbox or pc, but my pc is from 2002 and I don't own an xbox.
Well, I have both so if it turns out there are more PA peeps on PS3, I might switch.
I just hate the stupid Sixaxis' stupid trigger/bumper situation. It was perfect for years but then Microsoft kind of schooled them and it's hard to go back. For shooters, at least. I love my PS3 for many reasons, but shooters are not one of them.

Someone in this thread was asking about the weapons in Brink. I found this on the official forums:
At around 1:03-1:06 in This video (or just look at REVOLUZZER's 3 pics below) you can see icons for the weapons in brink. In another thread, PsyWolf, REVOLUZZER, loki_013, and myself started trying to identify them all. I finally condensed all of our posts into this list. The names are in order, going down each column, and them moving from left to right.
I'm not very sure on a few of the weapons
H&K GMG- Closest AGL I have seen, if you can find a model that is closer to the Brink AGL then tell me please
M240 - The in-game weapon is most likely a medium or heavy machine gun, but beyond that I'm not too sure.
Info On any of the Semi-auto pistols would be helpful
There is also the MP7 and MP-412 REX from the pre-order packs.
And quick reminder is that your body type determines the type of guns you can carry. You can carry one gun up to a weight equal to your type and one gun that is up to a weight lower than your type.
I forget how many perks you get per character, I think it is one per level. I wonder how quickly you level up.
Coolest thing I got from that article is the info about the Operative Class.
GA - So how does the Operative differ from the other classes?
RH - The interesting thing about the Operative is that all the other classes have way to immediately reach out and touch their team-mates with buffs. The Operative doesn’t. He moves as a lone wolf. In a game like Brink, where we really focus on ways for guys to play together and stick together, the Operative is there for the guys that think, I just want to get away from all you people, you’re crowding me, give me my personal space. So he’s supposed to be out there by himself. The core thing he does is to disguise himself, so you need to find a dead body with no-one else around. Once disguised you can’t stay with your team-mates, or it immediately raises suspicion as to why you’re not getting shot at. So he basically lives a solitary life.
GA - How does the Operative best support his team?
RH - Well, we want to cater to the one man can make a difference kind of gameplay, but we still want to ensure that he is a member of the symbiotic whole that is a well balanced team. The main thing he can do, while disguised, getting into trouble on his own, is that he’s the only member of the team that can see enemy landmines. Engineers will drop them all over and they’re the closest thing we have to a one hit kill, and they’re invisible. Every time a mine is put down the Operative gets an addition to his objective wheel to go find it. Once there, iron sight it for a few seconds and it gets marked on the entire team’s mini-map.
GA - So you want to infiltrate as long as possible?
RH - That’s the idea. Sure, you can shoot the mine’s but it gives away your disguise and position. If you iron sight them, you can cause much more havoc behind the lines and the only way the enemy can tell you’re not a part of the team is that they can’t buff you, so you always want to stay at arm’s length. They have to be careful too. If they suspect you, they have to think for a second and wonder, best case scenario they’ll fire and waste ammo, but if it’s a friendly fire on game, they could end up killing their team-mates. So it’s a dangerous gamble and one of the reasons why Operative is so much fun to play with. The Operative is pretty much trying to screw with the enemy Engineers. That’s his job. He can spot their landmines, he can hack their turrets plus control them from a first person perspective and there’s tons of other neat stuff he can do. I guess I’m talking him up cause I’m really keen on him right now.
Light-frame Operative zipping out into the periphery, getting his disguise on, and flanking his way back into the enemy ranks unnoticed, causing havok? Yes, please.

Im a little geekier. I plan to roll a d20. Low is Resistance, High is Security.
Just sayin'.
I like to think of it as "high security" with "low resistance".
Anyone going? And if so... are you bringing a damn camera?
The lack of lethality, the class-based system, the customization. Unless I hear something that makes me reconiser I'm sold.

A guy on the SD forums found some vids from EuroGamer 2010.
This shows a lot of gameplay. Pass it around people. It shows the ET style gameplay very well.
Here is a new interview with Paul, it talks about custom controls and some other stuff:
