Whatever. There are a bunch of options for controls, you can use preset configs, or you can map whatever action to whatever button, even on consoles. That's awesome.

On a more positive note...watching a lot of the footage I keep going "whoa holy shit" whenever I see SMART in action. It's pretty impressive how I keep thinking a wall can't be climbed or a ledge can't be reached, and then BAM, parkour up the butt.

Also, I was pretty skeptical about the SMART animations from a 3rd-person POV (i.e. seeing someone else do it). They still haven't showed much, and what they have shown is a mix of good and crappy IMO. The slide looks nice, but seeing someone climb and vault over a railing looked like buttcheeks to me.

As Brink gets closer and closer to release, it's becoming quite a concern for me that the PC version will probably just be a console port like every other multi-platform game in recent memory...

Has there been any information released about the PC version, or is this still mystery status?

This is my main concern too. I also have concerns similar to -page's.

PC info is still in limbo for the most part. I keep an eye on the thread to see if this changes, but I'm becoming more and more resigned to just letting this one go until I get some solid second hand information.

    Don't say I didn't warn you.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH_YM_hxG9c

The video quality was substandard to begin with, but this one has been reprocessed so many times it's often hard to tell what's going on.

If only I had a time machine.

Oh yeah, for some reason UMG is blocking it in Germany. So all you Germans get a reprieve.

For fucks sake, can we possibly have a conversation about Brink without bringing up Quake?

So I just preordered this for the 360 so if any of you fine gentlemen/ladies would add me to the OP list then I would be much obliged! I loves me a team based game and this one is looking really promising.

Someone mentioned it above. One of my biggest hopes for Brink is that it'll bring some of my more casual FPSer friends into the fray. These are great team players whose twitch skills have never fully developed. The RPS article and all the dev commentary up to this point points towards them really trying to reach this audience.

    So why no demo?

Imo the demo should just be a locked level 1 character, playable on all the public servers. It would give some of my casual friends a taste for the gameplay, movement, PC requirements and I'm betting lead to a quick sale.

I'm hyping the game pretty hard with my friends, but a demo would sell it imo.

I can't help it. Every time I think fps I think Quake. :/

I could use "this game I used to play" instead, if that would help.

I was thinking the "cigarette" slang word.

But yeah, even in team based games if there's someone whose voice I just cannot stand, I'll mute them. Even if they are trying to coordinate movements. Back when I lived WoW, I generally had half my guild on mute for various reasons.

Thankfully Brink looks like it has decent team coordinating menus from within the game. So hearing lil' Timmy live out his pre-pubescent war games/hate crimes fantasy in my ear should be pretty much a thing of the past.

It remains to be seen if Brink's friends-only by default VoIP system will really make a difference or not.

My excitement for this game cannot be measured. Multiplayer FPS games have always been my favorite since '96, yet I haven't played one in close to a year now. They just don't make good ones anymore. But this here, this shit seems legit. It looks excellent. It's got the pedigree. It's the last of its kind - there is literally no known arcadey shooters in the pipeline at the moment. If this game doesn't deliver, I'm not sure if I can even consider myself as a gamer anymore when all I'll be doing is watching sc2 games and waiting for diablo, fitting in a game of m&b here and there.

I will be buying this for the PC, because it is the one true platform for FPS gaming. Can someone add 'realspool32' to the Steam group please?

There's one skin per weapon per side, plus the pre-order bonus skins for the Bulpdaun and the CARB-9. If you're wanting to make them you're own, there's plenty of gun customisation to be had with our rather extensive attachment system. :)

Kind of a bummer, but not a big deal.

Bethesda isn't making Brink. Bethesda is the publisher. Splash Damage is the developer. You can completely customize the button mappings, even on consoles.

Bethesda is involved thus jump will be Y.

They hate us and so force it upon us.

Bethesda is just publishing. Splash damage had been working on it for years before Bethesda bought iD

I'm young enough and un-PC enough that references to Quake mean about as much as a long line of underscores. So when Brink is compared to Quake the post may as well read: "_____________________________"

Not saying the points are invalid, just that they mean nothing to me personally.

Anyone remember the old obstacle course maps from UT and Quake? That was fun times. I remember playing through one that required the player to do a 5 combo rocket jump to get across a gap. I fucked it up every time.

They're not actually insulting you by making a thing a default option.

They are saying "Hey I bet, I bet most people will enjoy this."

Edit: Christ, I wasn't like into playing anything competitive because I didn't get online till late, but the idea of someone whose initial FPS games weren't Sprite-based (Marathon is best times)->Quake/Descent/whatever-> so on is really weird.

First shooters were Doom and then Quake for me.

Of course, I didn't get to actually play them much until later because my parents were hippies and didn't own a computer until like 97 or 98. No, my best friend was kinda spoiled so he had all the latest junk, so I mostly just watched him play, occasionally offering puzzle advice.

I can't tell you how long we spent staring through that little window up at that chainsaw, just frothing with excitement at maybe getting a chance to use it. We never did, near as I can remember.

It's stuff like this that makes me wish videogames would get into the custom case biz because if they made their case...oh, I don't know....actually fuzzy like Black Moth Super Rainbow did then that would actually feel good.

I mean...don't let me stop you...by all means rub away. But think of how much better it would feel if it was soft and fuzzy. :P
