I'll believe convincing bots when I see them. At this point in time I never have.
Yeah, the more freedom bots have, the worse they tend to perform. And I can imagine in an open, multi-level environment like Brink, Splash Damage is going to have a very hard time making bots that behave anything like a real human player.
In one of the interviews, Paul said they had one of the booths at a convention set up to play against bots, and noone noticed.
But at conventions you play with 360 controllers in a crowded, less than ideal environment, for the first time ever. 90% of the comments at Rock, Paper, Shotgun mentioned something along the lines of "I accidentally grenaded myself while trying to sprint." People who can't figure out how to run and who can't easily look in every direction on a whim aren't going to be able to spot the telltale signs of bots. Playing for real after having become familiar with the game on a PC where you can spin 180 degrees and keep an eye on that one person and then spin another 180 in a quarter second will make the odd behavior of the AI much more apparent.
I dunno. Now that im back on Live, ive seen some shit from my own teammates in some games.
Mind you bots arent the brightest of contestants, but ive seen dumber things from actual humans.
I may not be convinced they are real... per se. But if they offer any challenge, then i dont care if they are real. Id rather have the bots be semi competant, even if they arent exactly big thinkers.
this video browsing for some gameplay footage. What's with the pistol the guy is holding? The breech is on the left hand side, effectively throwing spent cases into your face? Is this why everyone wears a hockey mask? :P
I think a lot of games switch the ejection so you can see it. It looks more exciting, and gives a sense of immersion when shooting.
Exactly that.
In the case of ancient Counter-Strike, all guns were left-handed (with the port on the correct side) since that was easier to model, and then an option was eventually added to flip the model.
Personally I don't like it when I get a stream of empty casings sailing across the screen.
Well, as someone who shoots in real life it makes me nervous as hell! lol. Seriously just seeing that breech facing me makes me want to blink as I pull the trigger. It's like knowing that an eye drop is coming, you know it's not going to hurt, and you know it's actually a good thing, but damn if your eyes will let you not squint and fight it.

Anyway, does anyone have a wish left from a genie or something? If so, can you please wish that Brink would magically come out on MoH or BLOPS release date? Thanks.

...Because you want it to get ignored by the masses?
I got so pumped for this game that I installed that copy of Quake Wars that I found in a gas station a while back. Too bad there's no CD-key on the jewel case and the community site has been shut down, so I can't connect to the servers that probably don't exist. I guess I'll wait for Brink to get my objective-and-class-based FPS fix.
This article talks about the different body types, customizing your character, and some other stuff.
Highlights--
the skinny guy is super mobile, he can double jump
leveling up unlocks new abilities, including upgraded turrets, the ability to hack and remote control turrets
there are icons to help you out-- for example if you need ammo, a soldier would see an icon over your head and know to give you ammo
This stuff sounds great, I hope we get some new movies soon.
I was just listening to the RPS podcast with the dude from Splash Damage a few days ago. If nothing else, it's hard not to get carried along by his enthusiasm, it was pretty cool.
Wow, there is no way you could get me to read an article where the entirety of the text is a link to the websites homepage. No way no how. That website is bad and they should feel bad.
How obnoxious.
So, I don't know if we went over this yet or not, but: what system are you guys thinking of getting it for? I'm going with 360, or at least that's what I have preordered. With this XBL price hike and my general brokeness, I might switch it over to PS3...we'll see, I guess.

I have it preordered on Steam. I might get it on 360 too... who knows.

It's probably a mistake they made when writing the article - that's the sort of thing that happens when you mangle HTML.
Really looking forward to the game, though, especially the promise of quality co-op play. I'm really hoping for system-link support, but I don't think it's been mentioned yet. Did QW:ET have it?
You can have a bunch of characters, I think 12 or 16, and the XP is tied to your ID, rather than the characters, so you can earn XP as your skinny operative who has the hack turrets ability and russian gangster tattoos, and then use that XP to buy abilities for any of your other characters.
I only own a ps3 (and a really old, mediocre when it was new computer), so I will get this game for ps3.
Yeah, I very much doubt the author of that article did that whole article as a link thing on purpose.
I'm going PS3. And, call me stupid, but how the heck do weapons work in this game? I can't seem to find anything on them. Is it just a set pool you equip at the start of a mission? Do you find them like Borderlands or pick them up in level like Lost Planet 2? How many are there?
edit: Oh, split screen co-op? Anyone? Anyone?
edit edit: MAN those guys are fucking hot.
edit edit edit: And do we know what console it's being developed on and which one it's being ported to?

1) I believe you have access to weapons based on your body type and class. You earn upgrades for them with experience, such as expanded magazines, muzzle brakes, and sights.
2) No clue on split screen co op.
3) Yes... i too swoon over how hot some of the guys look in this.
4) Its being developed for all 3. Pc, Xbox 360, and Ps3. No ports, Each version of the game will be specialized for each platform it is on.

Split screen is really a catch 22 these days. Developers are really pushing these poor consoles to their limit and major concessions in graphic fidelity and even gameplay have to be made to support two players on one screen. Sure, the benefit is increased sales from people who simply must have the feature, but it's often those same people who come back later and complain in forums about how ugly or poorly the game runs.
For developers, it's often just not worth the few extra sales to spend all that extra development time on something that people will likely complain about, bringing down the mindshare of the product.

IE, know how to shoot things.
Obviously it'd need more observation to know for sure, but my initial impressions were good.
Also, I didn't grenade myself once. Huzzah!
Tell me... did it smell like heaven?
There have a been a number of conventions or expos over the past months, PAX, Eurogamer, some others.

its the Full Metal Jacket diet.

I can't decide if'n I wanna be a huge ass soldier or a small agile medic running around doing parkour and healing mans.
Go as a huge ass medic walking slowly and healing mans.
I seriously have no fucking clue how they thought that was a good idea. It is absolutely astounding.
Anyway, I'm now confused from a line in that article. Is the limit on changing body type per character, or per mission?
Really looking forward to the game, though, especially the promise of quality co-op play. I'm really hoping for system-link support, but I don't think it's been mentioned yet. Did QW:ET have it?

I will be purchasing this on steam. It will be glorious.
