From the sounds of it, a warrior with a greatsword will have the same kind of casual AoE damage that dervishes had.

Man, the animations in this game are so smooth.

Like, look at how the fire interacts with that warrior when she goes into shield stance. That is awesome!

I think they sound pretty boss. It also sounds like every class is going to work on energy, which is in the first game, yeah?

OP is updated with the warrior page in the profession section. I must say I'm tempted to call the Warrior my early prof favourite for my future Charr. Winging around like mad, deflecting flames with a shield or tearing up mans with a sword is looking really badass! :P

Warriors can also block projectiles targeted at allies by simply standing between an ally and an enemy and blocking the projectile (which tends to hurt less with the addition of a shield).

Oh hells yes. Something that always annoyed me about tanking in GW1 was how the only way to protect an ally who'd drawn aggro was to desperately bash on their attacker in the hopes you killed them before they killed your squishie. I really like the idea of being able to throw yourself inbetween the enemy and your ally. :D

I'm not sure I really understand the traits system very well, though. They sound sort of like WoW's glyph system, but with a larger selection and less restrictions on switching them.

Man, if they've added this kind of functionality to ranged weapons for warriors, I can't wait to see how they've improved rangers.

I now. From the look of what they've shown for warriors, it still looks like a utility weapon instead of a main weapon. They even say in the description of warriors using rifles 'The RIFLE is a single-target ranged weapon that a warrior can use to pull monsters or finish off a fleeing foe.'. That's basically what warriors used to carry flatbows for, so it seems like they're just adding some extra utility to these weapons for warriors, while not overshadowing their role as a frontline fighter.

Seeing as rangers are a 'jack of all trades' class, I'd be very interested to see if they're given melee weapon traits for a bit of melee ability, while not overshadowing the gnarly bow and rifle skills. And to see what the trait system is like for them. And to see if traps have hung around.

Warrior info looks ridiculously good, but traits are what's got me really interested.

They're like some weird combo between talent points, glyphs from WoW, and GW1 attributes. So, Elementalists will have multiple trait bars, for water magic, earth magic, etc, each bar having a certain amount of slots which can be filled with traits, which are basically passive skills. You get these traits by doing profession-flavoured quests, which in the Elementalist's case are things like seeking ancient tomes of knowledge, or places where elemental magic seeps from the earth, and so forth. Warriors would seek out legendary swordsmasters and challenge them, and other warrior flavoured stuff. Certainly seems more fun than just chucking 12 points in Fire Magic, a la GW1.

Also, is it just me, or does anyone else hate the Norn? I plan to roll every race except them in GW2. On the surface they seem cool enough, shapeshifting viking dudes, but if you've played through EotN and seen how they're written, they're the most annoying race. All they do is sit around and talk about how great they are, and how they don't need allies, or armies, or help, or whatever, cause this one time they totally killed like 50,000 bears, and then you smash their faces into the ground to prove they're no better than anyone else, and they still think they're the bees knees.

Then again, maybe the emergence of a giant fucking dragon that kicked them out of their ancestral homelands and sent them fleeing like little girls has taught them a little humility.

Look, you just don't like them because they're better then you in every way, shape, and form, and you should be HONORED for them to even recognize you're small, impish presence.

And now I am going to roll a Norn supremecist.

    SO.

I'm traveling cross country to hit up PAX. I'm kinda disappointed that we won't get all the professions revealed before the demo at Gamescom.

I think they'll unveil Ranger next and there will then be one profession per armor class which would be enough to run a demo. I truly hope I'm wrong because I'm still holding out for monk to be back.

I'd be surprised if they completely got rid of monks, I think they'll just develop them more as the smiting branch than anything else.

The trouble with this is that there are only three scholar (squishy) professions; we know for certain that one of them is the elementalist, and there's evidence to suggest we're still getting mesmers and necromancers. So unless the monk is getting reworked as a heavily-armoured cleric type class, we probably aren't going to see any.

E3 – First, let’s get one of the most-asked questions out of the way. We are NOT going to be on the floor at E3. We really have mixed feelings about E3. On the one hand it can be a great centralized way to meet press and retailers. On the other hand, it’s anti-fan. As the marketing guy, if I’m going to spend a boatload of money on a booth, videos, props, etc., I want to be able to share it with the folks who’ll geek-out on it the most – the fans! IMO, E3 could steal a page from gamescom, which is a combination of a civilized business/industry area and a showy exhibit hall that’s open to consumers. If they did that, E3 would be a no-brainer in my book.

Aww. I originally learned about the first game through their "E3 for everyone" open-beta-for-a-week thing. I'm hoping their follow up post says that they'll be doing something similar at PAX. Although realistically, chances are probably low.

There won't be an open beta anytime soon, but there *is* going to be one eventually; they're just not going to open it until closer to the release of GW2 as they did with GW1.
