Well, Guild Wars (and GW2, or so they say) can be run on pretty meager requirements. If you have any kind of gaming PC then it will likely run it with some settings turned down. For all the bells and whistles you'll probably need one of the gaming video cards that are "current" right now.

On one of the youtube videos someone says the system requirements are not much higher than those for GW1. For success in any MMO you need a low entry point so I imagine it will be very well optimized.

Let's see if I can't swag myself some goodies for GW2. After I've had some sleep.

Can the Steam version be used with non-Steam versions of the other games? I didn't notice a "must have original Guild Wars" warning.

I'm pretty sure it's all handled in game by account, so should be fine. I don't even think there is a specific steam version, though I could be wrong.

It's a new campaign but it isn't standalone, you must own one of the other campaigns first and you must be level 20. It's pretty fucking awesome, actually, and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't gotten it yet.

You can go to the North at level 10, but even though they scale your stats up you'll be a humongous aggro magnet because of your low armor, so I wouldn't exactly advice it.

Also, the Great Destroyer is fucking bullshit. I can get all the way up to the final boss of the game with my AI henchies and then they give you a fight they're too stupid to navigate through.

When dealing with AI allies in that fight, flag everyone to stay on the shore out of the lava and then only venture in yourself with long range attacks, especially bows, to take out the three smaller bosses. You're smart enough to know when to run out of the lava, and when you can take a little bit longer to put out some more punishment, and your AI should be safely out of the lava where you don't have to worry about them killing themselves.

You can generally stay in range to get healing/support from the AI while being close enough to the enemies to still kill them, even though only you will be dishing out damage to the enemies.

It's been a loooooong time since I did that though, so I'm sorry I can't be more detailed than that.

About the professions, I think that was already known, but its good to hear it again and in a more straightforward manner. The general assumption, I believe, is that the assassin and mesmer will either either directly return or return with a new name, though now at least one of them must return directly (I personally think both will). The prot monk will return rather revamped and definitely with a new name, and the final class is brand new, most likely a new technology class like an engineer with some type of area control skills (turrets).

Indeed, golems are a racial skill for Asura, not a class skill.

Personally, I don't expect an "engineer", as that seems a bit advanced for the technology. Asura could pull it off probably, but nobody else. I expect the last class to be gun-focused, perhaps a more "pure" ranged damage dealer than the Ranger is in this iteration.

I'm 19 in the HoM. i'm happy, that's some serious loot I can get. I'm going to play some more and aim for 22 to get the Ithas Bow, so I have both reward bows. Since I'm a bow whore, that's all I really care about with this.

Honestly, I'm surprised we are getting weapons and armour. All their talk of 'nothing that will upset game balance' led me to believe we wouldn't be getting anything useful.

True, and they do scale, at least they made it sound like it.
Your new Guild Wars 2 characters will be able to use these low-level items and armor right away, and we'll provide you with the means to use these special items as you advance to higher levels.

That's good, since it would be a shame for these weapons to just fall to uselessness.

Well, the obvious solution to HoM items "falling to uselessness":
For the Hall of Monuments rewards, we will provide players the means by which they can transmute the stats/appearance of these particular items without having to purchase transmutation stones in the in-game store. The development team is still working out the exact mechanics of this, though.

They should just make them scale by level. As you level, they remain the right stats as you wield them. That way, instead of just being max level weapons from the start, they're just same stats as the weapons you'd find in your current area. When you reach the endgame, they're max level weapons.

For HoM, start a Ranger in Nightfall. That way, you'll get heroes and a pet for your monument of fellowship right away.

As for how, just do the story missions. It's fairly straightforward outside of a few grindy bits where you need to do bullshit filler quests to up your Sunspear rank so you can get on with the story.

After you've reached a certain point in the story, I don't know what exactly, you can go back to Kamadan and Dockmaster Ahlaro will take you to a special area where you can do an easy as shit challenge mission for a chance to earn improved armor for your heroes, making them eligible for fellowshipping.

Fastest characters to level are probably monk or warrior. Just start one in Factions. You'll be level 20 in a few hours.

edit - doing it this way, you can get to level 20 faster than in Nightfall, and then transfer to the Nightfall campaign for heroes and stuff when you unlock the dock city. As for pets, if you don't want to play ranger, just play till you get the option to change secondary class (won't take long in Factions), then buy Charm Animal. It's hard getting them to level 20 though, even as a ranger. Takes a long time. Fortunately, standard pets, only 1 can be added to the HoM, so doing it this way isn't bad.

Some pets are found level 20 (Black Moa and Black Widow). These 2, as well as the Rainbow Pheonix, get their own statue.

Yeah, they're most likely a racial skill. They've also been confirmed to be a consumable item for all races that you can buy at special karma vendors. Do an event to help out an asura and get a golem as a reward? Sounds fun to me, even if its only a 1-off.

Edit: Wow... so didn't see the next page. Whoops.

The imperial phoenix gets its statue, I'm pretty sure.

As for the gunner class, that's a popular idea too. I'm leaning against it personally, just because no class so far has been weapon-centric. So while we'll probably see more gun classes or a class that can use all the guns as opposed to just one type, I doubt we'll see a class so specifically defined by their guns.

They don't need to make a gunslinger gun centric, just make it focus on those. Just like an assassin (which I'm heavily betting on) doesn't need to only use daggers, just focus on them as their primary weapon. Rangers are pretty focused on bows, but they still use melee weapons. There's no reason they can't have a gunslinger focused on guns, but also still use melee.

    Just the regular Imperial Phoenix.

    edit:

Beat'n. Ah well, the nice thing is that multiple Halls of Monuments fit together, so you don't have to get everything on one character. My ranger had a Black Moa, and my Main had the Phoenix, just need a regular pet now :)
As for the Heroes, you can only display them if you get them their prestige armour.

That's kind of my point. In GW1 assassins had their primary weapon being daggers and rangers were primarily bow users, but that's not really the case in GW2. The defining trait of rangers isn't the bow, it's their pet. Warriors are actually equal if not better (in certain situations) with the bow. Classes no longer have a "primary" weapon the way they did in GW1. They have defining mechanics rather than defining weapons/attributes.

I do think we'll see more classes that feature guns, but nothing that specifically focuses on them or suggests it by being called "gunner."

Do we know that yet? I haven't seen anything other than 2 bow skills for the warrior, both were utilitarian. Obviously they'll get a full 5 skills, but I'd be willing to be they aren't as diverse in their nature as rangers get. Warriors are better off still getting stuck in with their sword. Rangers bow skills are more varied, plus they get the shortbow (the only class to get one), meaning they can fire on the move. I'd say rangers were definitely still bow centric, they just have some additional melee ability (which they had in GW 1 anyway, hammer rangers were pretty awesome).

not to mention rangers also get utility skills which help their bow attacks, like the demoed fire trap. They can set up their own combo to ignite their arrows. Rangers will definitely still be bow centric with added weapons for more options.

Anyway, what I'm getting at, is while other classes can make use of weapons other classes focus on, they won't get the same use out of them. While daggers are available on warriors, a warrior is a brute force character. Getting stick in with 2 daggers as a hulking, plate wearing warrior is going to have different effects to someone nimbler (as they showed with how rangers are different than warriors with a sword - lower damage, but apply conditions). Having an assassin class focus on daggers would get different, possibly more varied attack types than a warrior with daggers. That's how I'm guessing they'll have different classes focus on certain weapons (since they've shown it with the ranger already).

I think we can assume that no class will reach it's full potential using only one weapon set. We have to think differently from GW1. A Ranger should be swapping between different bows or between a bow and melee weapon as the combat situation warrants. I'm not sure it's even right to say that classes have a "focus" weapon.

Anyway, rangers were never good at damage with bows anyway outside of spiking. They're far better at applying conditions. The damage you get out of apply poison and a poisonous bowstring is better than you'd get out of cycling a few damage attacks.

The downside to that is you are not only wasting degen by going over the cap, you'd get more use out of crippling shot and troll unguent. It's easier to hit the 7 health regen mark with Troll unguent (8 wilderness survival vs 11 blood magic) and your elite provides you with a necessary snare. With apply poison and a poisonous bowstring, you still get plenty of degen damage.
