Hey Rend. Yeah, ever since Warhammer Online my optimism for games pre release has been shot to fuck. I even let it grow a bit for FF14, thank god I played it a bit before upgrading my computer >.>
But yeah, GW2 will most likely be a decent game from what we've seen of gameplay, just maybe not the decent game people are expecting.
You sir, are clearly an optimist. But that is a good thing. What you have said here is not untrue. I have had anticipation for single player console games that borders on the mad. When I finish the glorious 8 hour campaign, and after I am done crying over a $60 investment taking a mere 8 hours to complete, I usually don't take the time to stop and realize that, you know what, it was fun before I had it as well.
I'm cautiously optimistic mainly because the game sounds like it's shaping up to be awesome but none of the professions revealed so far interest me in the slightest. I tried a mace wielding support warrior at the PAX demo in the hopes it could kindle some excitement but that was...not viable, to put it kindly.
In reality it was probably like a year or something like that where we were chomping at the bits to have this game.
In case you care, it's 'champing at the bit'.
Also, yay GW2, looks awesome, etc. ;-)
Only thing I dislike about the game is that it's not out yet.
It is "chomping at the bit" actually, it's a reference to a horse's bit and bridle.
Speaking of which, are there going to be mounts in this game? If there's one thing I really enjoyed from WoW (and Zelda on the Nintendo 64), it's riding a digital horse for some reason. If one game was to do mounted combat right, I think this would be the one. Especially since they could treat it like a weapon you pick up.
And, I don't post often in this thread, but I read it all the time because I enjoy how excited you all are for it. It's infectious.

So I found out I'm 15/50 on the HoM, and, despite being burned out on GW and unsure about GW2, I'm thinking about grinding up to 30/50.
I have about 600k and 100 ecto, so hopefully that's enough money to be able to make it to 30 without any farming.
I've played recently and had 50k and...yeah...50k...
Man the most I've ever had was 100k. I have been dirt poor in GW since I started playing. But you know what? In the past 2 weeks I have made 300k, and it wasn't really even difficult.
If you farm up stuff for the titles, like destroyer cores, hero armors, crafting materials, etc. you can sell those for BANK. I basically subsidized 4 sets of elite armor (only had 1 when I logged back in ) by selling cloths of the brotherhood, which you get from beating Glint's Challenge.
They're worth 10-15k apiece, and they don't take long to get.
I never had a revenue stream before now, but it's nice to have money to do things.
Well are you in the KCHS Guild? I've tried a little solo farming the first wave of Glint's for cores but found it so Grindy and boring. I'd love to do the challenge all together in legit fashion.

I am not, but you can add Rend Melenkir (and look me up in the HoM tracker... only 6 more to go!) and if I'm online go ahead and hit me up. I am always up for making a guaranteed 10k.
I'm at 28/50 right now, and as soon as the prices for Rubies/Sapphires come down a set of Vabbi armor will push me right up to 30. I don't really care about working for anything beyond that, but there are a lot of things I haven't ever tried out that this new excitement is giving me an itch to beat. Like Glint's Challenge. I've been playing GW since the first week it came out, but I've never actually sat down and seriously tried to beat Glint's Challenge. Or the elite areas for Factions/Nightfall. I've never even seen Mallyx or Kanaxai, or whatever others there are, though I did recently go wipe out the Fissure. It was sadly easy, and made me feel silly for fearing it all these years.
I might add you, Rend, and finally figure out what Glint's Challenge is about. ...which is really sad coming from someone who wrote a guide in the early days of the game. :? I go by Ravenna Ninemoons, a ranger.

Man if you want to hit up the Domain of Anguish take me right along, I need gemstones for a Tormented weapon. (I never planned on getting one, too expensive and I don't need it for 30, but after I hit 30 I have the feeling I am going to want to start my prestige!)
Heh @ REG I've got 8 level 20's as well... but ranger is what I inevitably gravitate towards. Only my ranger and monk have been to most places throughout the world. My others have only a patchwork of areas they've visited, mostly their native continents and some GWEN.
For as much as I'm synonymous with ranger in GW1, and was actually a champion of the not-so-loved pet builds, I'm actually feeling rather ambivalent about the class in GW2. I'm hoping assassin comes out nicely, or maybe even mesmer. Something about the ranger I played in the demo just felt off, though it may be my reliance on and love for interrupts.
As for the Domain of Anguish, I really would like to give it a try, for the same reasons. Getting one tormented weapon would bump up my prestige nicely. But truth be told, I have no idea where to start. I may have to recruit some of the vets from my guild to figure out which way is up.
Hrmmmm, my problem with GW has always been that as a perfectionist I prefer to use one good build till I'm really farmiliar with it and just stick with it. Having been years since I've played, now I feel completely out of date. Is there a site with a good solo pve warrior build and a site that describes in detail how to obtain the skills for said build? It seems like a lot of the ones I've found are woefully out of date. It seems stupid to try and make one myself because I don't have enough skills to feel like I could possibly make one that would compare to one crafted with knowledge of all the skills you can get. Axe build vastly preferable. The only decent weapon I have is a tanzits cleaver and defender. If someone feels like being nice and helping me obtain or showing me where I can obtain a good hammer or sword I would be very thankful. I do have Shiro's Sword... hah, it's been a while.

It's funny how ANet copies successful builds and turns it back in their creator's faces.
In the Stygian Vale you have to fight like 20 touch rangers at the same time.

Watching the Gamescom vids have really gotten me pretty enthusiastic about this game. I liked the first Guild Wars but I couldn't handle how empty the world felt sometimes. Post-Searing Ascalon just felt a bit bland to me sometimes. GW2 looks beautiful though.
I really like how the combat is based on positioning, and I think that in combination with being able to move around while fighting will really draw in some new players.
This may seem petty but I didn't like the dialog cutscenes they showed in the Gamescom video. I prefer the classic view where it shows the face of the character speaking at the time. However, I do like the fact that ArenaNet is willing to try out new ways of presenting dialog.
My current assumption is that the dialogue screen is just for in-world story elements, and instances/dungeons will get the cutscene treatment as in GW1. It seems reasonable that they would do this, as throwing true cutscenes in for in-world scenes would be immersion-breaking (all the other players would disappear).
Then again, there are in-world cutscenes of some types aren't there? I thought there was a very brief one related to the shaman event.

Thanks. Think I'm gonna go for the Enduring Axe build... not sure what the best way is to go about obtaining a Zealous Axe of Fortitude though. More to discover.

My biggest problem with the demo cutscenes was how poorly animated the characters were. Poor animation always draws me right out of the experience. It's an early demo, though, so here's hoping they work on that shit.
So I spent today doing challenge missions for my remaining NF heroes, and was just about considering doing Glint's when I figured I should just buy the 2 cloths I needed to get 20 heroes up. I was out of cash but I noticed that zkeys were still 5k, and I had 70.
Right, because nobody calls the citizens of the U.S. Americans. Oh wait. Oh god, Canadians are now Americans too because they live in North America.
What about Native Americans? When were they Americans?
(I guess when we stopped calling them Indians?)
Native Americans = Ancient Siberians from the good ol Palaeolithic who came over the Bering sea during the last Ice Age and set up shop in the Americas, thus becoming the first Americans. There is no such thing as a Native anything since modern Humans are only native to Africa, as far as we know. (According to my Anthropology class.)
Indians = Christopher Columbus being an idiot and thinking he found East India.
American now pretty much is synonymous with US citizens mainly because of their country's vast influence and power compared to other world and NA/SA nations, who all have their own countries in their names (Canadians, Mexicans, Chileans, Brazilians, Guatemalans, Nicaraguans, Cubans, etc.)
But I won't fault anyone referring to people living in the Americas in the 1600s as Americans.
Neither will I. It's only when Manifest Destiny comes up that I have to shake my head. For all intents and purposes, anybody who lived in what became America is as equally American, at least after a little bit of time separate from their home cultures, as people who lived there before them. That doesn't justify what happened after, but they are all American.
And how bout that Guild Wars 2? Sure can't wait for that to come out!

...But there will be blades.
Rend's glass is 75% full...of knives.
Who am I kidding? I am still caught up in it. :P
I just think it'd be fun to fight centaurs while mounted.

Why have 1 level 20 when you can have 8!?
I'll add you and have a look. Add Tanara Dawnrunner. For moi.

A word nearly 500 years old!
Also yes, there was that short cutscene as you ran towards the big elemental in the human demo.
Yes! We are victorious!
I'm dating an American and have been to the US plenty of times, so I don't see why we can't all be one big happy American family.
Mexicans can be Americans too, I guess. And all the South American countries.
We can all play GW2 together!
