I need access to vital records for a specific city in NY. The city is Schenectady, and my google-fu isn't producing results. Does anyone know how to go about getting this information over the net?

Dictionary: vital statistics
"Statistics concerning the important events in human life, such as births, deaths, marriages, and migrations."

Also IIRC the Dept of Commerce tracks data in detail you wouldn't believe, you might want to talk to them if the census gives you insufficient resolution.

That's great! I need one statistic that isn't represented there, though. The main cause of death? Any ideas?

The CDC would have that, although you're probably going to have to contact them for that information.
