For one of my classes i'm susposed to play ethnic music that portrays the era which we drew out of a hat. I got a 1960-1970 in either Montreal or France. I've listened to several tracks of 'popular' music from this generation, but its not just working with the presentation I have.
Yet I know this sounds rediculous; I keep on imagining this genre of music and after going to several french record stores asking while widly trying to describe it frothing from the mouth in desperation; I was promptly asked to leave.
The way to describe this music is usually its a very soft femal vocal singing lazily with a upbeat jazz like tune; yet it indefinately isn't 'french' jazz. Its usually played in intimate scenes in movies outdoors depicting cafe's. But again its either my imagination because after scanning through movies such as Oceans 12 and many short films from Quebec, its ghosting on me.
So yeah PA; my assignment is due in 2 days and i'm going insane. Can any of you help me out? I do apologize for my bad english i'm not native to North America.
My thought here is that if you aren't finding the music you are thinking of but ARE finding music from the correct generation and area, then perhaps you need to rethink your presentation and work with what is actually available. I know that's not the help you were looking for but I think that's what is most likely to get your project done.
Is the popular stuff basically "generic" stuff that could be from anywhere, or is it specifically montreal/france in the 1960/1970 era?
most of that type of jazzy stuff you mention predates that era, as the 1960/70 era saw jazz turn more eclectic. Esp. w/ a lead singer, that's definitely pre-60s (billie holliday was 40s/50s).
Double check that you're not thinking of basso nova.
That's from Brazil and mostly in Portuguese. The time frame is close though.
Absolutely beautiful music... but it doesn't match your project.
