May I ask what happens if we are not going to the pre-PAX dinner? My boyfriend and I can't make it so will i still be able to get and give plenty of buttons to people? (including the set being presented to Gabe and Tycho possibly?)
Absolutely. The pre-PAX Dinner is just one of the spots we'll be gathering buttons. You will have ample opportunity, no doubt about it.
which brings me to my new noob question.....er, just how do we recognize fellow buttoneers? Just look for people wearing lots of buttons?
Pretty much.
Not everyone wears lots of buttons thou.. You'll find that the buttons most people have will stand out, look for them on the lanyard, thats where I keep the select few I decide to display.

Look for buttons on display. If they aren't displaying, and they don't come to you, well, they're gonna miss out aren't they.
You'll run into a lot of people who have no idea what you're talking about and are just wearing lots of buttons. That's okay. Take a look at what is out there for swag bag buttons and dealer buttons, you'll recognize non-buttoneers eventually since you'll see their buttons don't quite fit in (they have none of the ones you've seen so far, they aren't mostly the usual 1.5" buttons, etc.)

I don't mean to impinge on the forum avatar aspect of buttoneering. I just would like to use them as gifts and icebreakers. I don't know what criteria I will have for sharing them, but I hope to trade despite my meager presence in these forums.

I love your idea for custom little bottles of sanitizer. A creative and humorous way to keep the PAXSARS at bay.

Anyways, here are my final buttons, just put in the order today.

Duh. I totally forgot to post my button* when I finished it.
*Yes, I understand about the dashed lines and borders and wrapping and all that. This is cropped to the visible front area for display purposes. Thank you.
If it is outside the dotted line it will still be visible you'll just have to move the button around to see it.
yeah.
that was the intention.
my drawing skills left no room on the button so around the edge it went
If that's the case, I would recommend reducing the size of "PAX 2010" to ensure that parts of the words don't get cut off. You'll also need to put "PAX" on a curve. I'm doing the same thing. You can see the way I've laid out my button along with instructions from PureButtons.com on post #729.
nemaihne and Dimp, your buttons are *adorable*, and I hope to trade with you guys. I'll be on the PAXtrain, and will try to hit the pub crawl, but I'm leaving Saturday afternoon. I'll miss the mass button trade. Hope to catch everyone before then!

Yeah, i'm gonna play with it a bit more tonight, that was done at like 3am this morning, so it's a bit rough, and also on a program i'm still getting used to....
MMMMk. This is the current design I have. I will do some tweaking and this isn't the filetype I will submit. Anyways I know some of you wanted to see it so here you go:
It's a Zombie Pirate Robot Unicorn (with some Ninja touches) IN SPACE.

So, Burnttoast and I came to a similar conclusion - Before submitting this really cool button you might want to make sure to lighten up the background a good bit. I lightened my entire button before submitting them and the main image came out just the right colors, but the background (blue sky and darkish sky) still came out quite a bit darker than expected. It's really stupid though because in the flash photo of them, the backgrounds look perfect, but in reality they are a lot darker, to the point that my bonus button looks like it is in a night setting and my main button looks like its a stormy day.
How do you guys think this will turn out? I'm a little leery of having the text around the curled up edge... Any idea how readable it'll be?
I would hug the dotted border as closely as possible. While most of the time the edges are pretty close, some of my dapper legion buttons were slightly offset... [strike]Ill post an example in a few minutes.[/strike]
This is what I was talking about, one is normal and the other has a slight offset.
Ok, I have come up with a couple of designs but I need someone to talk me through how to get them into the right format for PureButtons. I don't have photoshop or anything. Is anyone willing to help me out?
Thanks!
Well, you're in luck! 100 are on the way! You'll just have to track me down now...
Brian4120, thanks for the advice. I moved it down ever so slightly to hug the dotted line a bit better. So long as the front looks fine, I don't think it'll matter too awful much to me to be honest.

I will have to employ my skills at stalking now.
which i don't really have many, and you'll probably find me much easier. The boyfriend will be the tall guy with the really big tophat covered in buttons.

So I won't be making the original button I posted. It wasn't really a great concept anyway, and it was just for the Community DVD. PapaPrinny made his own button with name and logo on it, and I will do the same. I'm really terrible at coming up with things like this, but I thought of something and went with it. Pretty much what I did for my '08 button (see my avatar).
I'm going with the Guild Wars 2, SW:TOR, and BladeRunner references. Because like I said, I'm not good at coming up with things. And I like to make references. I've got a few similar designs I'm working on, but I'm just going to show one for now because I still like it the best. It's the fourth concept of said design.
BTW, I don't expect everybody to catch the SW:TOR reference, especially when they see the actual button. It's really not even a reference, just cropped out a small part of the logo.
My friend and I are going as Reapers from TWEWY. While we might not meet up with the Buttoneering group, we'll most likely be doing something involving these:

If you can't handle me at my Worcestershire, you don't deserve me at my Bestershire.
I finished my button design, and have placed my order. I had a bit of help from the ever-benevolent MaoChan (he showed me some Photoshop witchcraft), but this year's design layout is all me.

Main Button:
Bonus Button (speaking of PAX sickness :P):
I'm pretty sure this is the one I'm going to get. At actual size it looks much less...terrible.
*Yes, I understand about the dashed lines and borders and wrapping and all that. This is cropped to the visible front area for display purposes. Thank you.
But in the meantime, Figured out the bonus button!
It even comes with Instructions on how to achieve said awesome button!
Yes, I know. I'm awesome. :P
any suggestions before I order will be gladly accepted, but I am working with a handicap on image editing at the moment, so be gentle....
