So.

In both firefox and IE, many images come up as broken, very often. I've gotten use to this annoying handicap, but i've lately grown tired of it.

It's not the links to the pics, because say in a given PA thread, some sigs/avs will show, and some won't. If I F5, some others will show.. maybe. Same for any other images.

It's intermittent, and super annoying. As a corollary, I have to refresh youtube about 5-10 times to get any video to work.

What can I be doin to fix this, dear geniuses of the intarweb?

I found this post on the firefox support forums, that has a few tests for you. Post if any of it helps you.

I'm sorry to say that all my ideas were listed on that page. As long as you don't have any ip blocking software running I don't know what to say.

Let me ask you one question though. Does the page hang waiting for the images, or does it immediately show the broken image picture?

    It's essentially instant.

That points to it being a setting in your browser or firewall, that is not even requesting those images from the website. It may only be loading ones from certain IP's, or it may be blocking any that are larger then a certain size.

Have you tried starting Firefox in safe mode. It should be in your programs list.

I'm sorry that I can't be of any more help, but hopefully someone else can take over for me here and help you out.

Do you have an extremely vague definition in Adblock? I once inadvertently blocked *ads* and didn't realize what my problem was for days.

If you have a router you can try unplugging it and then plugging it back it. Sometimes my router gets stupid and stops loading certain sites for some reason. Turning it off and then turning it on again seems to fix it though.

I work at a college, and thereby live in the on-campus apartments. So, I'm going through their hardware before I ping the internets.

It's a mostly friendly IT dept. so I guess I could ask them.

Also, I'm running a land line, straight to the wall.

Increase your cache size, and clear it. I think I remember someone having too small a cache before or something.

It's in the advanced -> network tab for Firefox. Something around 50mb is good.

Have you tried re-installing your nic drivers? Also, if you are running an onboard card, you could always try a cheap rtl8129/8139 card to see if maybe the onboard nic is acting up. You should be able to get a card for about 7$.

You might try grabbing and running knoppix or a similar live-CD:
    http://www.knoppix.org/
to see if you have a problem with your OS. (Quick version: burn the iso, stick the cd in your computer, then restart. Everything *should* autoconfigure) If everything works, try a different computer on the same network jack.
