So Figgy, you got another bonus copy when you bought a gift copy for your brother?
Because when they were doing the whole "Buy Portal 2, get Portal free" thing, I didn't get another gift copy of portal when I bought Portal 2 for one of my friends.

It didn't look like Steam was going to do that, so I used the dev's site to buy it this time. They give you a key for Steam, and there's a song and dance to gift out the second copy. I gave the original key to my brother and entered my own email for my second key. It's actually needlessly confusing.
Edit: Where do my Youtube videos go? I don't see them if I login to the site itself.
the only mistake I see is that you moved the guy on the right into line of fire before talios even had to move him.
but I suck, so maybe there's more to it. anyway, it's a lovely game and I'm glad to see it's getting the love it deserves
edit: oh and during your last turn you moved your dude too far out. I know you were going for the red in the middle but there was another in the building adjacent you seemed to miss
The computer is insanely good at finding the tiniest angles to shoot from across the map and kill my guys. The game really needs a dynamic field of view shader for a guy when you select him
I appreciate the advice, guys. Just to reveal my thinking, what I was going for with the grenadier at the end was to be in the open to avoid rocket fire. At that point I already knew I had lost. I think if I had more hope, I would have noticed the things you were pointing out.

Yeah, he was still way too close to cover.
Looking at it, you still had a slim chance when you were down to a grenadier. Not much, but a chance, if you kept your plans flexible.

If he's aiming, it does. A 90 degree arc directly in front of your selected guy.
The first campaign mission does an excellent job of teaching you where to take cover and when you can be shot. Since you are only supplied with shotguns and they have rifles you have to be able to negotiate the map without being in the line of fire for very long.
my problem with LOS is that the angle you see any given location shifts based on your camera position, and there aren't enough points of reference, plus the lines seem to be vectored and thus single-pixel, so they don't actually change in width or shape as perspective changes, which are the most important visual cues for recognizing linear positions in 3d space
You really should be able to right click on a unit and see everything it can currently see in green, everything it can't in red, that kinda thing. You should be able to know PRECISELY what a unit can and can not see from any given position.
I know it's not exactly what people are looking for, but when you select a unit and hold down V, it draws a line from the unit to the mouse cursor that shows if line of sight exists. A bit crude, but it works.

For some reason, I feel like that's giving you too much information. Stepping back from it all it doesn't seem like it, but I like working it out for myself, I guess.

Didn't know that, it definitely works, but just means all my turns are going to take longer than they need to really.

i'm not really getting how this line works..it shows me the exact same dotted line whether i have my cursor directly in front of where my units facing or directly behind, obviously in and out of his LOS..how exactly does it indicate?

I can't say I've really had any trouble with anything LoS-related. I've gotten plenty of guys killed due to giving them bad orders, but can't recall any times where I've had anything bad happen because I didn't know who could see what.
I've only played one match so far but I definitely lost a kill because I thought a guy could get his gun around the corner but instead his rounds were just clipping it.
If they won't do Commandos-style LOS then they could at least snap to the unit you are trying to look at, because millimeters matter and the LOS line isn't very accurate.

Pretty sure if he was firing that meant he could shoot around that corner, those were just 'misses' that clipped the corner.

Yeah don't worry, your dudes won't fire unless they have line of sight. Think of them as Stormtroopers, they have some bad aim when they first start firing.

I've turned the tables because a red didn't manage to connect enough rounds to kill one of my guys. It's a good feeling.
I'm about to fucking give up on the campaign. I've done this escort mission 7 times now, and every single fucking time the AI manages to magically kill the VIP 5 inches from the door with nothing I can do about it.
I played a few matches against the AI, and but honestly I find playing against other humans to be much more fun.
Same, I just want to see the story.
Anyone who's gotten moderately far in the campaign: Are the rest of the missions filled with this "mid-mission-reinforcements all spawning in exactly the right location to fuck you over" shit?

Sometimes, but not terribly often, so far.
And I once had the AI spawn in the perfect spot to fuck me over, but instead it walked right in range of my AR trooper. Got a gold medal.
Was it the last round? There's a certain number of rounds you have to finish by and if both teams are still alive then whoever has the most players alive wins.

Also, this game would sure be a lot better if I could actually complete a turn before "Lost connection to Grand Server" pops up.

Did... Did he have a grenadier stand out in the open, but right next to cover?
WHY?
Why I fear the ocean.

testSnapCam() in the console should work for ya.

Sheesh, that was awful beginning to end. The last green is aiming while moving but not actually adjust his aim as he leaves the building.

With 3 snipers vs shotguns/MGs on defence I fancied my chances anyway, but seeing them all lined up like that...
