I need to experiment more to confirm it, but it seems that once the hostages leave the small "safe box", the captors are allowed to execute them, causing an instants loss for the extraction team.

Do the hostages give line of sight for the rescuing team? As in, can he see my guys if I put them near the hostages?

Jesus this map is brutal. He can enter from 6 directions and I've only got 3 guys. If I pick the wrong way to look it's game over instantly.

So has anyone had graphics issues with flickering walls and stuttering sound/music? My buddy that I gifted my free copy to is having these sorts of issues. It's an old machine but easily within the specs. Win XP and an nVidia 7800 (I think?) card.

Guys, it's not that one server is miraculously faster than another. The game is experiencing some growing pains. You all up and switch to another server and before you know it, the grass is going to be greener somewhere else.

    Give it time.

I don't agree. I actually do think that one server is miraculously faster than the other.

I got the game at 11AM today. That's 10 hours ago. This has been my experience with the game:

11AM to about 1PM (on TEXAS4): Everything was smooth.
5PM-7PM (on TEXAS2): Slow as shit.
8PM-8:20PM (on TEXAS2): Slow as shit
8:25PM-now (on TEXAS4): The exact opposite. Same experience as 11AM-1PM.

I mean, I'm not dreaming the differences. And it's very possible that one server is on older hardware or is somehow throttling.

edit: TEXAS2 is virtually unplayable for me, especially compared to TEXAS4. This kind of game isn't worth waiting 2-3 minutes between turn submissions, especially if you are juggling multiple games.

Except you even said yourself that sometimes Texas4 is "slow as shit."
    Drez wrote: »
Nah TEXAS4 seems slow as hell too. I think they need to increase bandwidth or something.

Intermittent server issues are intermittent. When I was playing early this afternoon, my turn submissions were almost instant. An hour later, they took a bit. It's hit or miss.

Further, when one person finds a server blazing fast, someone else is going to be having problems. If you wanna switch servers, all the power to you, but for the PA community to play together, the best idea is to just stick to a single server for the time being. That's what we've been doing.

If at some point we find out that Texas2 is having issues that no other servers are having and everyone can benefit from switching, then so be it.

I say we stick it out. Speed bumps will be ironed out.

That sounds really fun. What also might be fun is challenge maps, ie. some maps that are clearly asymmetrical that lead to some (hopefully) interesting gameplay. Like a map where one team only has shotguns and the other team only has grenade launchers, as an extreme example. Stuff that's more for fun and novelty could be cool too.

Also, ugh, I still can't get over how short the turn limit is in this game. I'm just too used to LSN where I would do things like do a slow push up the middle, then leave a few units to fake a presence at that location while the rest of my team faded, snuck up a different route, and then would blow through a wall for an ambush.

I feel like 8 turns is too short, even when playing aggressively, for dark missions though. Maybe its fine for light, but honestly I've had matches were both sides easily waste a turn or two assaulting a position where they thought the enemy was and no shots are fired. Wasting 25% of your turns is too much for me.

For the record, I simply don't pick a server and it runs completely smooth. Log in to your account, then when it asks for a server just select Games from the bottom left and load one of your active games. After that you'll be connected to..something. But I haven't had any lag at all for two days.

I'm pretty sure it just dumps you on whatever server that game you've selected is hosted on

Anyway, you can't even get to the menu screen without picking a server initially.

I started a Dark charge with you. And holy shit do you have the advantage. The entire map is open and only you have a sniper :x

You don't need to get to the menu, as soon as you have entered your username and password it brings up the server select box, at which points the Games icon in the bottom left is selectable. After loading whatever game just hit Menu and you're logged in as normal.

And because you do that, it's annoying to play with you. I have to quit the game and re-load it to complete a turn. If I'm on a server, my game with you won't show up in the bottom left at all. So, every time there's a new turn I have to restart the client so I'm not on a server :(

Just...damn. Best game I've played or seen so far.

I encourage you all to watch the match from my History tab and Like it, see if we can't get it featured in the news reel.

I think the great thing about this match is it shows camping can be beaten on equal footing, even though the mechanics would suggest it is impossible.

In contast, take a look at this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i08ipmnFDE&hd=1

I feel kinda bad about making cpugeek do all the work, and predictably when he runs into one of my stationary guys he loses. But it's clearly possible to work around it, and the disadvantage of the defender having a known position can really work for you.

I can definitely see you're improving since our first matches btw Cpu, your movement between/around cover is a lot better. I think the only time you let yourself down was leaving that shotgun guy standing out in the open so long.

Im sure Wolvie though will post my match from later that day where he thoroughly humiliated me. Its only fair.

As Eelektrik mentioned, here is what I have been up to so far playing with the fine gamers that frequent PA:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcvIVuybtAg

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw6vdRuPD_E

Other than that, I messed up on a server change thing and lost a bunch of games/contacts, and played some single player.

I am really enjoying this game chiefly because of the turn based nature of it over long periods of time, I can usually get in a few turns after work, chores, and family life.

So my first two attempts at exporting a game onto Youtube have failed. It encodes, uploads, and then tries to process, but Youtube says it could not convert the video. Any ideas?

I have the same issue, I think according to the forums its a known issue.

I'm trying once more. Maybe you aren't supposed to leave the window while the video is uploading? Obviously, not while it's recording.

If this doesn't work, I guess I can just do it manually.

Edit: Worked that time. If you're having issues, keep the game window in focus while uploading.

I record my game offline first, then manually upload it by visiting Youtube first and that works for me, if I try using the direct to youtube thing from within the game, my game crashes.

    Edit:

    WTF?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBU3seXg_24

Also, they need to change a couple tactical things:

    1) You shouldn't be able to see the location of a rocketman when he shoots. You can't see him, but if you play back the turn and watch you can see where he is by where the rocket is coming from. Projectiles should follow the fog of wars rules like everything else.

    2) When you duck behind a partial wall, the LOS check function (hold v) doesn't take that into account. That needs to change.
