I just had the craziest idea...if Blizzard sends out more invites or something, or sends out friend invite codes, we should give the invite(s) to the winner(s) of a PA Brood War tourney or something like that. Clearly from the 4000 names on the list, that would be a complete bitch to organize, but can't a man dream?
It's fairly explicit in the blizzard TOA that you do not hold any contests that are not sanctioned by blizzard in order to give out beta-keys.

Well, I clearly didn't read it. Or we could possibly just hold a brood war tournament and on a completely unrelated whim have the winner become really good friends with someone with a friend invite

Yeah. But no.

Is it just me, or is it a little dickish to say GG to someone when you're winning and they haven't GGed yet?
nah i wouldn't call it dickish.
Though if I'm winning I'll go "GG, WP" where as I'll only say "GG" if i lose... now that i think about it, that might be dickish.
the loser is the only one who should say GG.
anything else is being a dick.
this is not up for contention, in fact I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that its actually written in the rules of the Korean pro scene.
Anyway whether it is or not its still polite to wait.
In fact, when I'm playing SC1 and someone says GG against me when they haven't actually won yet and I haven't said GG myself, I make it my mission to make them fight for every last building I have, even to the point of hiding command centers all over the map.
I am with you on this.
The loser is the first one to say GG, you mean. After that the usual etiquette is for the winner to respond in kind.

Correct. But if the winner is the first to say GG, I absolutely refuse to GG back, and will do everything I can to delay the game as long as possible.
Gentlemen, I have discovered the fix to the Ultralisk.
Make the Ultralisk Cavern tier 2, increase the cost to 200/200 (from 150/200) and increase the build time to 80 (from 65). Anabolic Synthesis (speed upgrade) is a tier 2 upgrade while the Chitinous Plating (+2 armor) remains tier 3.
If you recall, I calculated the resource and time cost for the massive ground units for all three factions:
Thor:500 minerals, 225 gas and 210 seconds. Colossus:700 minerals, 300 gas and 245 seconds. Ultralisk:800 minerals, 550 gas and 360 seconds.
The Ultralisk is considered to be the weaker of the three, yet cost the most minerals, gas and time to gain access to. However, with my proposed changes it'll drop to 550 minerals, 300 gas and 225 seconds.
This brings the Ultralisk to parity with the other two massive ground units in terms of technology placement. This does not break the game because even during tier 2, all three races are more then capable of countering the Ultralisk. Note that if you rush to Ultralisks, you will end up delaying your Hydralisk Den and Spire, becoming extremely vulnerable to any sort of air.
Protoss can hard counter using the Immortal, Warp Ray or the Sentry's Force Field. They have a soft counters in the form of Stalkers.
Terran can hard counter using Marauders (with stim), Banshees and Thors (with or without 250mm). They have a soft counter in the form of the Siege Tank.
Zerg have the hardest of hard counters in the form of the Infestor. Hydralisks and Mutalisks are a soft counter to the Ultralisk.
Nor, will having the Ultralisk at tier 2 invalidate the Roach. They are still cheaper, faster, and more versatile than their massive cousin.

That is actually a pretty neat idea.
Put it on the official forums? Sure, angry nerds will rip it apart, but Blizzard has been shown to pay attention to those forums (the Marauder research nerf, the roach nerf, etc.)
Oh god. Everyone below plat that I fight does idiotic all in cheeses.
I want back into my old league. Win or lose, none of these games are any fun, because I know I'm either winning against or losing to someone that has very little understanding of anything past a cheese. I base this on the face that fast DTing toss, if they fail, try to counter my stimmed MMM with mass stalkers, and zerg try and counter my marines and thors with mass mutas.

I'm fairly sure that the official forums had nothing to do with those changes, and the impetus for those changes came from actually checking data in the game, and drawing their own conclusions, the same way they do it for WoW.
i'm surprised he didn't get any tech beyond ghosts. that wasn't a short game by any measure really. also suprised the other dude didnt get collosi sooner.
I just played an actual back-and-forth game with a zerg player, no shenanigans involved. He tried an early roach push into my expansion (I went for quick expo) but my base geometry nailed him hard and I lost much less than he did even with a smaller force deployed. Next my battlecruiser finished (I decided to make haste for BCs for no real reason this game) and I started a push into his base, killing some drones, queens, and a few hydras before the BCs were brought down. He sent his surviving roaches into my base, but they got smushed by my expo's PF. We both rebuilt and encamped in the middle of the map; he retreated to his expo before I could get any siege action going on his watchtower.
About that time he popped out a bunch of mutalisks and started killing my workers, so I charged his defenses and broke through (he had 148 food and I had just over 100, but I stimmed and sieged while he was using his mutas).
Overall I'm not too thrilled with battlecruisers as a strategy, but a few of them supporting your ground army can help considerably.

I like it. The only problem is that the mighty Immortal is going to become even more heavily relied upon by the Protoss. In my opinion it's already too favored (and possibly too strong overall; I'm not sure).
Oh jesus fuck is he fast. No wonder I suck with Terran and am better at Toss. I don't macro nearly as fast.
Man what? I play both toss and terran and the amount of clicks to macro is pretty much the same :P
I dunno, I feel like initially I have so much more to juggle as Terran. What I like about Toss is that they are more micro intensive (few units to manage, but they are strong).
I'm a LOT better at microing my army than timing my macro so that I use up all minerals at all times.
edit: also I hope you realize it's more actions to make one toss unit from a gate than to make one unit from a rax, you also have to switch your view to a place that has a pylon field whereas with terran you can keep your eye on the battle.
