Idk, the 1 queen per hatch + queen tether thing sound too arbitrary. Plus I like moving my queens way out to plant creep tumors. Which really sucks right now because they're so slow.

If you attach her to 1 hatch, what's the point of the unit? Just make her an upgrade to the hatch then and make the Queen an actual combat unit (group buffs hooooooooooo).

I play Terran almost exclusively, and even I hate the "spawn larva" mechanic. It really, really should be an autocast ability.

But then I think unit production should be autocast-able as well, so maybe I have a weird perspective on this.

On an unrelated note, I really wish they'd go ahead and improve Terran mech. The marauder improvement means everyone's back to MMM since it's the only thing that works (besides banshees, actually). The problem is that the factory is absolutely useless right out of the box. In order to get any utility from hellions, you need to first build a tech lab and then research the long-ass infernal preigniters upgrade. Siege tanks of course need siege mode before you can get your money's worth (and require a tech lab to build anyway), and Thors not only require a tech lab but an armory besides.

The problem with mech builds is that they're too slow to be practical, with all that research and construction required up front. You really have to invest heavily in infantry to be effective with Terran right now, and once you've got such a large investment in MM it makes more sense to add medivacs and unit upgrades than to try to transition to mech.

Also, I still think marauders are too good.

    Creep tumors:
Spawned by the queen for 25 energy (why do you have energy!?)
Spread creep for about... 9ish range.
Are cloaked when they finish building.
Each creep tumor can spawn an additional creep tumor, that creep tumor can spawn a creep tumor, etc.
May only be built on creep.

Zerg can get pretty gas-heavy, so some kind of Queen ability where she improves gas harvesting would be sweet.

How sweet would that be though seriously

only gas improving ability in the game

The thing is, that's just going to make 2 queens per base required :(

Edit: very nice arkan, but you may want to make that gold mineral patch the standard # of minerals. (I think it's 5 or 6 nodes)

edit: oh is that 2 gold xps next to each other? Hmmmm.

It's got the same number of resource sites as 2 gold expansions stacked.

It's also in a spot directly between both player's bases and it's very close to both of them; if someone can get a stable expo up there then they pretty much already have map control. It's not really a valid expo site so much as something for the players to fight over.

    Sensor tower?
You can also deconstruct your bunkers and build new ones on the back once you see them trying to bust in.

Is this for the new lava map? Just remember it takes them a while to get through 2 rocks.

If it's for that other desert map (can't remember the name for some reason). Maybe fast expand just isn't the best thing to be doing?

its worth it to just go ahead and build a bunker by the rock after you get some at your fast expo in my experience. even then youll only hang on through micro, its the nature of the build. expect to have to use your scvs at some point if he's trying to break in.

So I kinda suck at this game. Anyone have any ideas?

Basically, I have no idea how to go from point A to point B - do I attack them? Do I wait for them to attack me? Once I'm past tier 1, I'm pretty much lost as to how to build, and I kind of suck at micro.

    I play Terran BTW.
    Here's SC in a nutshell:

Micro, although important, generally does not win a game.
    Macro wins the game.

It's all about economics. If you can out-expand your opponent you generally win. So basically, keep him contained in his base by countering what he's doing.

This is probably the best way to learn for starters... the high level styles like crazy micro and rushes that short games are made of require too much apm to be beneficial for someone that's just starting.

The key is to know what he (or she...) is up to all the time, and make something better.

Ive watched quite a few top tier matches where Micro won the day.

That wasn't his point. His point was learning the macro game for a new player.

Sure. In the highest of tiers, macro is a no-brainer. Everyone does it and does it well. It comes down to technical precision at that point. But he's not teaching the guy how to be a pro-gamer. He's teaching the guy how to have a general understanding of the big, core foundational mechanics of the game.

That is why I edited my response. If you can Micro at lower tiers you get that extra leg up on others. That is what I meant to say.

I really appreciate the response. I went home and played a few games over lunch, and I'm still absolutely terribad. I have a LOT to learn! I can't effectively use multiple types of units in a group - essentially my first inclination is to create a shitload of one type of unit and just zerg. That's a holdover from what I used to do in starcraft1 (on single player!), and I completely understand that is a total noob way to play, I just have to get out of that mindset...

Side question, how do I know when to attack as terran?

Basically, I think I have a fairly decent build order, but my problem is that once my army starts to get huge, I just keep building and building it up, and I wait for the enemy to attack me first. Should I always rush them once I get <x> number of marauders/thors/whatever?

That's a good way to start. Just set an arbitrary number up at first, like say you'll push out when you have 1 thor. Obviously don't make it too arbitrary though, and then keep adjusting when you push out after experimenting with it. For example, if you find that waiting to push out with 1 thor lets your opponent expand uncontested against your build maybe you should move out earlier.

That is what good scouting is for. Use a low resource quick unit to scout out the base(s) of your enemy.
