isn't that why you only send 2 guys up at a time or something
as soon as one guy goes down the next guy takes the elevator
i think that's how it goes i don't know from experience

A co-worker just came in and dropped the PS3 version on my desk. Is this version worth it? It appears there's no DLC.
I'm not sure I understand the question, but if you are asking whether you should play Borderlands then the answer is yes and your co-worker has done you a "solid." If you enjoy it, you can later acquire the DLC.

You have at least one Siren, yes? Spec for fast cooldown and then her only job is to stay alive.

yeah, its pretty cool because we don't have any duplicates for vault hunters. I am thinking I personally need to get some revolvers instead of sniper rifles for my elemental damages for his damn offspring
Screw the offspring. If someone has a decent double anarchy on a Siren then aggro him and let the rest do what they can.
Curly is right though, if you have a Brick in the posse specced for long revive times, you can definitely plant someone at the bottom of a waiting elevator and just run up if he goes down.

This game's cover art has been staring at me for the last 5 hours or so.
It really is remarkably good. I like how all the various elements come together nicely.

So I'm kind of disappointed right now with the game. Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn't beaten it, or at least anyone who is below level 25 or so.
T.K. was like my favorite character in this game. And ok, characters die, but why aren't we avenging him? Scooter just said something like crap he still has my tools and that was it. Seriously?

Is anyone around level 20 or so? I've been playing on my own to get a feel for the game up to now, but I think it'll probably be more fun with other players.
I've just restored fast travel.

I did that like yesterday. I think I'm like level 23 right now.
So, is there anything a Pestilent Defiler can't do?
I was playing with a couple friends the other night in New Haven (playthrough 1) We're were not overleveled for the zone, and I was one-shotting the Lance Turrets over iron sights at long range (Gun Crazy Mordecai)
I keep wanting to switch to other weapons, because of the 2 round magazine on this weapon, but nothing else seems to come close. It Snipes! It does Close Range! It makes Julienne Fries!
This particular gun was picked up by my Roland on his first playthrough, and I did a split screen swap. This thing is like a family heirloom, it would be a crime to vendor it. (2 round mag, 357 damage, 1.1 fire rate, 91.7 accuracy, level 25. No scope or other mods)
The Derm on
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position
Such a heavy burden now to be the one
Born to bare and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see
But I forgot my pen...

Well, it's not of much use on Zombie Island...
I do love a good Pestilent Defiler. As you say, there's not much it can't do.
Oh yeah, that.
Still, 357 damage headshot will de-brain most of Zombie Island on pt1

So, mom and I are going to be doing our weekly BL session tonight at around 8PM PST. We're hoping to find someone with a low level character that also has Moxxi. That way, we can get the skill point quickly. Anyone here fit the requirements? We're on PC and use GameRanger.
I do love a good Pestilent Defiler. As you say, there's not much it can't do.
They're not as good against Lance Chemical Troopers in Knoxxx either. Unless you're talking head shots. But then that's what the Jakobs pearlescent sniper rifles are for. Fearsome Bessie all the way!

Not yet. But I'll be buying it soon and can probably get close real fast. I can't play the 360 version anymore. I need faster fps.

A good Volcano makes pretty quick work of Chemical Troopers as well.

Pestilent Defiler + Volcano Sniper turns the game into easy mode. Regardless of location.
Hey, at least you got one. I've made countless Crawmerax runs and still haven't seen one. And some kills were full 4player games with two people wearing a +2 Rare Item class mod.
man, i miss this game. it's great to see the community is still alive and well. hopefully gearbox will introduce a level scaling fix so i can get back to busting skulls. my roland save file is just sitting forlornly on my desktop.

I just don't understand the Gearbox cone of silence. They have (had?) a robust community eager for news on several fronts: scaling fix for post-Knoxx main game, DLC 4 and eventually BL2. And not a peep.
"Our" own GBX_AdamF was on the PA forums just today. He hasn't posted since we changed threads. (GBX_ennui is registered but has no posts and no activity here since March. I'm glad she registered, though. She's done a good job holding down the fort over on the GB forums.)
The Gearbox forums are a ghost town these days. It feels like they are letting their community support atrophy when the community has demonstrated that the tiniest trickle of news will keep it hopping for weeks.
EDIT: Okay, what the hell. Just checked Mikey Neumann's Twitter feed to see if there were any morsels there, and almost the whole page of recent tweets is about Sex and the City 2. What the fuck, Gearbox?
I thought Gearbox stated very clearly that Knoxx was the final DLC?
And the silence probably means that they are hard at work on something that they aren't able to talk about. Most likely a sequel. Most games these days have a 2 year development cycle for sequels and games on preexisting game engines (such as Unreal 3 engine). And most companies don't start the press blitz until the start of the second year, after they've got a substantive list of features.

Of course that's the publisher, not the developer. Still, if it's not coming that's something they could let the fans know.
I don't doubt that they are hard at work. I am not a hater. Quite the opposite. They've built up an active community and it's silly (at best) not to drop some pic or factoid in a three month period to keep the home fires burning.

If they do come out with a sequel I REALLY hope they let us carry over characters. I didn't start playing this until a few months ago, and I'm just now getting my soldier to a decent level with some kick ass gear. I would love to carry him over to whatever new universe they create for the sequel.
Got a question for you guys, and I'm sure it's been asked before, but the thread is rather long...
I rented Borderlands for the 360 and really enjoyed it so far, but I would love to play it with keyboard and mouse rather than a controller. However, I know the retail version for PC uses SecuROM, which I detest and would rather get a console version than have that on my computer. If I buy it through Steam, does it still have SecuROM?

No, the Steam version is unencumbered by extra DRM. You are in the clear!
Some of the DLC (1 & 2? Can't remember. Def. not #3 - Knoxx) do though, so check the Steam listings before you buy if you don't want it.
Just here to confirm that Borderlands on Steam is indeed DRM free, however it is true that DLC 1 and 2 (Mad Moxxi + Zombie Island) have Securom and Knoxx does not
So are Rocket Launchers really as gimped as everyone says? Worth using as Brick with the Blaster tree?
Yes.
Depends on what you mean by worth it. You can certainly play that way, and some people like to, especially because it's more challenging than using a 'power class' like a Controller Siren or Gunslinger Hunter. YMMV.

It's pretty jarring compared to the other characters I've played.
I played through as Roland with my wife as Lilith and played my Brick on the side. I went Master Blaster because it seemed fun sauce, but explosive damage really seems to suck it up against alot of things I'd expect to gib.
It takes far too many rockets to kill far too many things and it doesn't take long for Brick's special ability (no boosting talents because of Master Blaster) to be used simply to hide in a corner and heal - definitely not Borderlands style stuff there.
Keep in mind, I'm only in playthrough 1 with him. Early on PT1 it was fun, but everything works then. I have an explosive shotgun and revolver that were pretty neat for a while.
Now that I'm high enough to dip into the tank tree it's getting better again. I'm thinking just a general weapons master blaster with tank tree survivability next. My plan is to get enough tank talents so that I can get in guys faces and use a machine gun or shotgun with the general weapon blaster talents to just mow them down Ahnold style.
Also: Why no DLC combo or price drop and why no level scaling fix? Aren't they losing both potential money (I know a number of people who would gobble up a $30-40 Borderlands but are daunted by the $60+ with all the DLCs) and the community that will BUY the next dlc in the meantime? I'd think we'd be talking serious $$$ at this point. Do they just have more money than they know what to do with?
I don't know if this was obvious, but I finally figured out how to get that damnable Orbit Achieved challenge in a way that's not "boost a ramp and hope you run into something and flop all over and then land upside down"
I heard it could be done in multiplayer simply by hanging off (all wheels off the ground) the very first ramp in Fyrestone and having someone melee you. That doesn't help in single player though.
Anyway as I was checking this out, I happened to glance up and see Mothrakk in the distance and a light bulb went on in my head. I took a few potshots to provoke him, hopped in the hanging car and sure enough when he carpet bombed it, the challenge unlocked. Strangely, the car didn't budge.
The tricky part is getting Mothrakk to attack; he's oddly reticent. I kind of had to "nudge" him little by little.
Are dazing talents worth having for solo play? I'm playing a rogue Mordecai right now, and there's a 3rd tier daze talent for Bloodwing. Also, does Bloodwing just not scale well? Because right now when I call him out, at least 5 dudes die.

I had a good run last night doing the last 2 vault runs and a few Craw runs. Got a Pearlecent shield [bold and beautiful] and an Electric Sniper Rifle with BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM and another Electric rifle with [A Hunter among the stars] I roll now with 4 sniper rifles. Skullsmasher, Electric hunter/stars, Electric bambambam and a Volcano. If only I can find a better sniper mod with better crit damage and more ammo regen I'd be golden
