So, say my phone has one of those yellow marks on it, or it loses service when I pick it up--what should I do? Bring it to ATT? Apple? Does the factory warranty even cover that?
I'm sure if it's as widespread as it's sounding, they WILL be issuing fixes/replacements... since that's a pretty damn big game-changer... one day after people get it.
I wouldn't worry about warranty/care. If you have it, it will be fixed.
All I know is that I am so taking advantage of the 30 day worry free thing with AT&T so that if I still get shit service no matter what with the iPhone then I'm going to Verizon for good.
I just really want to play with it before I switch over.
Well fuck me.....apparently the microcell is now available for my area and they didn't notify me. Shit how bad do you think AT&T stores will be tomorrow?
Can we talk about iOS 4 in this thread too? Are people finding their battery draining faster after upgrading? I have a 3GS and i can watch the battery drop several percent when doing light web browsing/twittering/reading. It's not as bad as some of the reports I'm reading of people seeing 80% drops in three hours on standby, but it's noticeably worse than it was pre-upgrade.

What phone are you using? The 4 apparently has a ridiculously long battery life.

Like I've said several times in this thread already, i have a 3gs and have been running the GM iOS 4 build (exactly the same as the release build) for around 2 weeks now. My battery life is noticeably worse than before. I went from getting around 6-7 hours of actual use, with only slight drop for long standby periods, to getting at max 4 hours of use.

So glad I didn't bother trying to pick one up at a store today
I decided to come into the office today, and got a lot of people on the subway checking it out. I was playing Angry Birds.

What the fuck, Esh. You haven't make a database of all the thread user's iPhone versions? Keep up, man.

AHH! I knew it! Everyone is watching meeeee! NOoooooooo!
Man, walked through the mall today and glanced up at the Apple Store line - it stretched pretty much halfway across the mall, all the way to Macy's.
I resisted the urge to take a picture of them with my phone.

Haha. I like that. But I'm actually using an old school metal backed Edge network iPhone.
I like the idea though that the speed increase will knock my socks off. Seven hours and I can go get my new phone!
I'm not getting faster battery drain with my 3G on the iOS 4.0 Gold Master (jailbroken, with multitasking/wallpapers enabled), but I am unable to charge it via the iPad's 10W power outlet adapter plugged into the wall. I haven't tested it with the 5W iPhone adapter (because I lost it :?)
It recognizes that it's plugged in, and runs off of the wall power (verified by the battery indicator not moving one percent as I played peggle and multitasked for hours), but doesn't actually gain any charge. If I plug it into my PC or my Macbook via USB, it charges right up. I didn't have these issues before updating.
Other than that, it's working great.

I haven't noticed any more battery drain on my 3GS since the update.
But then again I went from 1st gen to the 3GS, and I could swear that I always got better life out of the 1st gen.
Although now that I have parted ways with AT&T, it's simply an iPod touch.
And I will not rain on your parades, as the iPhone 4 does indeed look nice, but I really like the combo of iPod Touch + other smartphone. Yes, I carry 2 devices (on days that I realize I have a low workload and will have time for SimCity, Plants Vs. Zombies, heavy podcast listening), but I have all the perks of an iPhone without AT&T.

Visual voicemail, facetime. Can't think of anything else at the moment.
We're starting to hear a few reports of the dreaded yellow spots disappearing from the iPhone 4's display after a day or so of use. Interestingly, someone posting on the AppleInsider forums seems to know why:
"Apple is using a bonding agent called Organofunctional Silane Z-6011 to bond the layers of glass. Apparently, Apple (or more likely Foxconn) is shipping these products so quickly that the evaporation process is not complete. However, after one or two days of use, especially with the screen on, will complete the evaporation process and the yellow "blotches" will disappear. How do I know? I was involved in pitching Z-6011 to Apple."
If this can be trusted, it's very good news for those afflicted -- though hopefully Apple will keep to its usually painless replacement policy for defective phones either way. We are still seeing some mentions of the spots sticking around, fading in and out based on the heat of the phone, but we'll give it another day or two to really see how much of a problem is going to be. Let us know how yours fares.

I have both of those on my actual phone (and I'd argue they're better. Visual Voicemail with the added ability to send those voicemails to my e-mail, or respond directly into their Voicemail, if I want to skip a conversation. And Fring on the Evo is Facetime, but compatable with PC's and Skype, as well as other phones.)
But seriously I don't want to be accused of coming in and shitting all over the iPhone 4, so I'd love to discuss the merits I've found by switching phones, but not here or today at least. I was just saying to other iPhone 2G users that it makes a hell of an iPod Touch, if you are unhappy with AT&T. Like every other thing in life, there's pros and cons to everything.
I look forward to hearing about all the iPhone 4 awesomeness, and the things I can grab on my old phone (like taking advantage of the current iPhone 4 "99 cent blowout" on games!).

@mxmarks don't worry about it - people who want to come in and shit on the iPhone are pretty easy to recognize. Honestly, once my contract runs out, if I don't upgrade I'll be tempted to just go back to using a prepaid dumbphone and use my iPhone like a touch; I barely talk on the phone at all, I think I spent less than $10/month using my prepaid phone.
hmm, I'd be tempted to go the iPod Touch + other smartphone route if I picked up a phone I could use as a WiFi hotspot. then anything I couldn't do on the otherphone would be doable on the Touch, even when not in wifi range.
but I guess then I'd be carrying a phone that would have shit for battery life just to power data to an iPod Touch that could be an iPhone 4
I also feel like some of the added utility of my iPhone is not having to carry two devices, and if I were going to use a dedicated iPod-like device, I'd personally want one with much larger storage capacity than my 16GB 3G. I stopped using my 80GB iPod because my library was larger than I could fit on the device, so I'm really kind of holding out for something enormous before I start carrying a second MP3 player around again.
Well, my AT&T Order status still showing in-process. No shipping info, not backordered, just shows ordered and in-process. But, of course, they gots me money. Getting pretty impatient.

Look at what I bolded in my original quote. The original comment was "the battery life on my 3GS sucks", to which you responded "what phone are you using?"

Apparently the loss of bars when holding it is a software graphical glitch and doesn't really effects reception.

It's like the start of a hostage note. You better bring a pillowcase full of money tomorrow, just in case.

The SoHo Apple store line has wrapped around a new York city block, crosses the street, and continues onto another block.
Jesus Christ.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...

if you look at the page for the 10W iPad Power adapter on Apple.com, the "supported devices" graphic lists the iPad and the iPhone 4, nothing else.
prior to updating to OS 4.0, it worked flawlessly. what's the deal?
