I dunno why we can't all just get along! Some people like iPhones! Some people like Androids! Some people like brick phones from 1995 that do nothing but make telephone calls! Obs isn't here!

this is pretty funny
the fact that apple admitted there's a problem, that they said they will fix it, and that there are people experiencing it doesn't mean anything!
Wait, it does, but I don't care!
The topic of the post that you quoted being numbers and how "some" wasn't a number? That topic?
Or whatever thing it is that you made up in your head to justify double-posting just to not-answer people?
Actually, the topic of this thread is still the iPhone and the functionality thereof. A good clue to that would be how this thread is titled "iPhone 2010: This is going to change everthing. Again."
My original post in this forum was in response to Tycho's article last week. Now, when Tycho or I or anyone else state our belief that every new generation of any device should exceed the previous generation in functionality, and of primary concern in the case of a cell phone is a consistent and reliable connection at least as good as, and preferably superior to, the model it replaces, or that reception that is negatively affected when a hand held device touches human flesh is a significant oversight in design, these are not opinions that require statistics or mathematical computation to express.
Even if you were initially unaware of Apple's press release, Tycho and I have opinions that remain valid without quantification. Neither of us demanded a recall nor made claims that a certain percent of iPhone 4g owners will have a problem; we were simply stating that it's reasonable to expect something new to work better than something old. No amount of charts or graphs or statistics could make this point any more salient.
If you're not experiencing a problem with your iPhone 4g, as I said before, congratulations, but Apple admitted there is a problem on the same day the iPhone 4g was launched and this was widely covered in all forms of media, and to my mind that effectively makes this issue indisputable; however, feel free to complain to Apple for not being more specific if you really need to know how many "some people" actually is.

Yes, I think Micheal Ingram Jr. really nailed the sentiment of a lot of iPhone owners the same way Tycho did in his article last week.

the anandtech article says that the death-grip attenuation signal loss is less than the effective operating gain through efficient DSP and having a large exposed antenna.
so basically the problem seems to be that the i4 has a much better signal than other cell phones (including the 3gs and the nexus one) but if you gorilla-grip your phone with sweaty hands you can drag it back down to 3GS/ nexus one levels of signal reliability and performance.
apple's "admission of a problem" was saying that their bar representation of signal was oddly distributed.
For those interested in the subjective only - I don't care, I own one and it don't affect me none and I think it's the most attractive phone with the cleanest user interface on the market.
For those interested in the objective only - The iPhone 4 is a superior radio device, and even when maximum bear claw attenuation is achieved the phone still performs on a competitive level. This is supported not by anecdote but by facts obtained in objective testing of the device.

And you're still the one who responded to a post specifically requesting numbers, that was not originally addressed to you except in the most general case, with things that are not numbers. That is, you went out of your way to not-answer the question asked. That makes you a goose, you silly, silly goose.

True story. When I ordered an iBook at release a few years back, FedEx delivered it to a scrap yard. In a town 50 miles away. They even had signature confirmation; not my signature, not even my name; but confirmation they had.
Apple has the option of "pre-signing" for it... but I'm not so sure about that... I don't want a paper with a big ol' Apple logo on it hanging on my Apt. door for anyone to see, then an attractive box with an Apple address on it showing up and sitting outside my door. -_-
Taking a half day... hopefully I'll get there in time.
So I've got a few potential buyers for my 3GS. How should I go about wiping the data completely? Any other pre-sell precautions I also need to be aware of?

Reset it through the device itself in your settings menu; That'll clear everything out: data, music, movies, settings and personal information.

What's to stop you from developing a Jingle client for your iphone 4?
Nothing technically I suppose, but there's a pretty good chance Apple wouldn't allow it in the App Store, especially if it tried to do video calls over 3G or if any of the front camera APIs are Apple-proprietary.

I really hope that if new iPhones are getting delivered tomorrow that my in-store order will also be in tomorrow.
The store was clueless when I called and asked today, but they pretty much said "They don't tell us when they're going to ship us stuff. It shows up when it shows up"

Well, according to Fed-Ex, my phone is out for delivery to the store today, so odds are good.

Erm... it's Prettified C, so... might wanna go ahead and tell your bosses that you're going to need to go buy some reading material. :P
You'll want to have a grasp of C (basic grasp is probably OK), then move onto Objective-C, then move onto Cocoa Touch. Though someone might have a better suggestion.

Played around with the attenuation, and yeah, when you hold it naturally it seems to do just fine.
To be fair, that is in an Apple store with microcells.
Mine still works fine, but just saying not really a valid test
